Chapter Text

“Hi. I’m L/n, F/n L/n”

The class just looked up at you, stood there.

Already regretting letting yourself be forced into this mess, you turn to look at their (and now your) homeroom teacher, a tired but powerful man you know by now as Aizawa, who just looked back at you with what you were pretty sure was curiosity.

“Um.. does anyone have any questions I guess?”

Everyone's hands went up almost instantly, giving you a chance to finally get a good look at the people you had been observing from afar for so long.

Midoriya looked shorter in person and Kaminari looked a lot more sturdy than you remember him being, but it was the spiky haired guy in front who caught your eye, his signature spikey blonde hair, and piercing red eyes, immediately alerting you to who sat there. Katsuki Bakugou.

“You.”

You stare him down with an intensity unmatched, the tension in the room could be cut with a knife.

“Why did you come to UA?” He stared back, unphased.

You tried to come up with a reasonable lie to counter back at the hot-headed blond. Maybe this constant lying through your teeth thing would be harder than you thought.

“I want to be a…” The words felt toxic on your tongue, a bad taste that wouldn't go away. But you remind yourself it's a necessary evil for this whole plan to work. “I want to be a hero”

You held a strong stare back at the boy until, eventually, he huffed and looked out the window, as if bored with your minimalist answer. You take a breath, glad that you managed to get the first lie out of the way, now you just had to keep it going.

“Ok… um” you look around the sea of hands before settling on a hand that was obviously more solid than the rest. Following the arm down you found yourself in eye contact with the one and only Eijirou Kirishima, the shark-looking kid with the odd hair and the quirk that turned his flesh to stone.

“Redhead. Shoot.”

“I’m Kirishima! What do you do in your free time?” He questioned enthusiastically. It was a nice reset question after the battle of wits with Bakugou. All you had to do was answer the question and you’d be set.

“Well I like a lot of things, but I spend the majority of my time drawing, playing music. Oh, and i occasionally speed run Duolingo late at night” You hear a scattered laugh from the class, you smile back at them, proud of your attempt to joke.

“That's so manly, man, What language are you learning?”

“Finnish”

“You should Finish Talking”

You look over at the guy who’d said that last comment, not surprised to once again make eye contact with those piercing red eyes, like rose petals.

“Wouldn't you like that pretty boy.” You smirk back, before realising what you said and mentally slapping yourself. However, upon seeing the boy's cheeks rise to the colour of his irises, you felt a small drop of pride. Shaking it off, you turn back to the class, who had been stunned into silence. You laugh awkwardly rubbing the back of your neck,

“You, with the spikey hair… What's your question?” The tall guy with the spikey hair, who you were pretty sure was named Sato, or something similar, smiled and introduced himself before he spoke back to you, asking about your favourite place to go out and eat. You reply hastily, saying there is a takeout just around the corner that makes an absolutely stunning F/d. To which he responded, agreeing that it was a good place to eat, and that their other dishes were quite exquisite too. You look around to ask the next person when you hear a squeaky voice exclaim: “WHAT'S YOUR QUIRK?”

Turning, you see an unruly mass of green hair staring at you with expectant eyes, notebook open and pen in hand.

“Shut up Deku”

“That's mean, Kacchan!”

“Um… My quirk is called Of the earth...

Everyone looks up at you waiting for more.

“It’s like… You know the basic 4 elements? Earth, Fire, Water, Air. I can control each one. I can change the direction of each, the shape and intensity of fire. The shape and State of Matter of water, like ice, water, steam. Again for earth shape, and I can grow plants. And finally air, which I can change the speed of as well as direction. But it all ties into one another, like if there isn't the materials for fire then i can't make steam and if there isn't water i can't make things grow, so i can't really just make something from nothing… That's all really confusing, let me just show you”

You twist your hand around with practised movement as the water from the bottle in your bag flows up and into a ball in front of you. Another movement leads to a small trickle coming from the ball and snaking off around the class before twisting around your finger, and then finally sliding back into the bottle. You continue your show by willing a vine to grow from the back of your neck. The class watched on in awe as it snakes down your arm and splits off into a separate run. The vine reached the end of your finger and a small flower emerged. Similar shows for the other two elements only get more stares and murmured opinions from the class.

One thing you didn't inform the class of was the final element you can morph and twist. Not even Aizawa knows about that one part of your quirk, the more dangerous and energy consuming part.

Aether.

Some knew it as Void, Maybe dark matter.

At your will. You could in theory make black hole-esque things, and you knew for a fact you could store light , steal it from sources, and expel it from your body in wavelike attacks, but you hadn't quite got a hold on it yet. and those attack took significant concentration and energy, something you saved for work with the LOV.

You look up after finishing your show to a group of impressed faces, however, seeing Midoriya scribble details and doodles, you felt a minor rage fill you, annoyed to be the observed and not the observer.

“So… you're basically the avatar?”

“Um, yeah… I guess?”

There was a resounding collection of “cool” and similar statements.

“Thanks guys, you’re making me blush”

You pick the next person, settling on the sparkly Aoyama, who is smiling brightly up at you, somehow seeming to produce light.

“Sparkles, your up”

“It's Aoyama, Mon ami. What's your favourite colour?”

“F/c” Easy, next.

“Emo bird dude”

“Fumikage'' Yeah, I know, You thought. “You said earlier about drawing, what genre/style do you tend to draw in?”

You go into an explanation on your art style, a mix of horror and portrait drawings, telling Fumikage you’ll have to show him sometime. He promptly nodded as you looked for your next victim.

The next couple of questions were basic, light-hearted things like ‘early bird or night owl?’ from Shinsou (Night owl, you'd basically become nocturnal due to The best crimes being done at night. Speaking of, it was not night, you were NOT asleep, and your body was Paying for it.), ‘What's your favourite sport?’ from Ojirou, ‘What's your favourite animal?’ shocker that one came from Koda, and finally, Jirou’s addition of ‘Who's your favourite artist?’

“What are the drawbacks of your quirk?”

Another shouted out question, though this time not from Midoriya.

Todoroki.

Powerhouse, dual-wielding, Coward.

You knew of the boy, of course, the son of “Pro hero” Endeavour. The man was a dickhead, one of the heroes who truly made you scratch deep in your bones, one of the big personalities you hated. So naturally, you didn't particularly like the offspring of the man.

“That's none of you Fucking business”

The words dripped from your mouth like blood. You tried to breathe normally, you couldn't blow your cover this early and you had just personally attacked one of the most prolific people from the class. Trying to pull it all back, you smiled sweetly, pushing all the feeling of hatred down deep and expanding:

“Sorry, You’ll just have to find out in training.”

You hoped it would be enough to prevent any ill feeling, but looking at the boy, you could see a deep dislike in his eyes. You'd messed up. But before the conversation could go any further, an angry voice once again invaded your head.

“I don’t care what your drawbacks are, extra, I’m going to beat the shit out of you either way. Get on with answering questions so we can fucking LEARN.”

Silently thanking whatever stupid forces above for the boy's impatience, you looked to see where the next question was coming from. A tall girl at the back, next to Todoroki.

“Hi, I’m Yaoyorozu! It’s very nice to meet you, I'm the vice class rep.” She smiles a blinding smile “My question is more of the thought provoking type. If quirks didn't exist… what would your dream job be??”

You laugh on the inside, knowing how you want to respond to this question is so different from how you need to respond. Coming up with the most musty crusty heroic bullshit you can think of, you put a big smile on your face and respond:

“I’d be a doctor of sorts, maybe a researcher, definitely something involving plants and medicine!” Yaoyorozu looked satisfied, your lie worked. Almost the full class down, which meant you'd almost successfully infiltrated this hell hole.

Your next question came from someone who looked as if she was cosplaying an alien!au Pinkie pie, Mina Ashido.

“Soooooooooooooo, you single? Got a girly? Cutie like you must!”

You laughed at how wrong the girl had gotten you, sensing that it was a platonic question.

“Hah, Mina? Was it? Great question, but I'm afraid you've mistaken me for some handsome hottie. No, I don’t… let's just say: I swing for the other team but I still play ball.” Mina burst into fits of giggles, so you assumed she understood the reference.*

“Um.. hi?” you look away from the disaster that is mina to see the one and only Denki Kaminari poised to ask a question. “If you don't mind me asking… What are your pronouns??”

You are extremely grateful for this question, you hadn't wanted to make a big deal out of it, knowing you do pass for a dude, but given this opportunity makes it not obvious that you are trying so hard to pass and just looks like an innocent question asked. After all, you knew a lot of people were not accepting of what you were, and could definitely use it against you, and given you’d already basically outed yourself as gay, best not to stir the pot anymore.

“Um, thanks for asking, He/Him.” You smiled hesitantly, “and you?”

“He/they” you were taken back by the confident response, not expecting them to be that open, but looking around, proud smiles filled the room, and you couldn't help smiling too.

You moved onto the next question quickly, as although your new found belief the class would be ok with who you were, you still didn't want to bring any real attention to it.

Only 5 questions left before you could relax, 5 people left: A dude with short-ish black hair who looked kind of high, who you soon identified as Hanta Sero. A TALL kind of cute guy at the front with 6 arms, Mezou Shoji. A frog-looking girl, Tsuyu Asui. a guy who looked way too uptight and as if he should be at some posh grammar school instead of this WoNdErFuL place, Definitely Iida. Which left a bubbly-looking girl you knew as Ochaco Uraraka. She had almost defeated Bakugou last year in the sports festival, you'd been extremely impressed, and had outwardly mentioned her strength to you team-turned-family, saying about how we should recruit her instead of the angry guy they had all settled for in the end. You quickly decided an order for the last 5 being the same order you identified them.

Hanta first. “What's your biggest regret in life?”

Letting Shiggy make me do this. You internally rolled your eyes, getting a little bored of the stupid trivia questions.

“Uhh, I'd have to really think about that one, but I try not let things truly affect me, and i try to forget the past where i can’t learn from it, and once i have” Well, that was the most worthless lie you'd ever told in your whole entire life, and your entire persona isn't real right now. You hold grudges like mums do the handle in the car while you're driving.

“Why weren't you in first-year?” Shoji’s question took you by surprise, which was funny because it was probably going to be the most likely question to come up in the end. However, on revising the question, the 6-armed boy looked a little too curious. Which made you uncomfortable, meaning you blurted out another lie, but this time without thinking.

“I Moved here with my family from Scotland” fuck, first county that came to mind, I'm going to have to stick with this now, i don't have the energy for thattttttt. You continued to roll with it though knowing you couldn't take back what was said.

“Why don't you have an accent then?”

“Cause, um, my parents are Japanese? They moved there, had me, came back?”

“Ok then.” Damn ok got away with that one then. Close one.

Tsuyu asked about childhood goals in relation to being a hero, which honestly wasn't hard to lie about, you'd never wanted to be a hero, that was the whole truth. But as a kid you had never really thought about the future in any capacity, and so you just decided on some childish story about an injured animal.

Second last question.

Iida sits patiently waiting for his turn. As you nod to him he stands up and bows, creating somehow a perfect 90 degree angle with this body, it was pretty impressive.

“I Am Tenya Iida! I Am The Class Rep, If You Need Anything Please Come To Me! My Question Is: Do You Believe In Giving Villains And Wrong Doers A Second Chance To Make Up For Their Sins And Become Socially Acceptable??” He sat back down.

You were taken aback by the brash and loud question, but as the realisation kicked in of what he asked, an anger began to pool the pit of your belly. You breathe a couple times to steady yourself, hoping that you have concealed enough of your anger that you don't look suspicious.

A quote came to mind, you don't remember where you first heard it, but its stuck with you your whole life:

When we are young we are taught the difference between good and evil.

A saviour and a lost cause.

But what if the only real difference is who's telling the story.

You try to speak but your voice is caught in your throat.

“Um i-” You cough, trying your best to sound normal, but the 19 pairs of eyes on you seem to be looming.

You never liked being watched.

Kurogiri always used to say it's because being seen means you're being known, and being known was something, especially in the situation, was something you couldn't handle.

“Hurry up extra.” you look up at Bakugou, expecting angry eyes, impatience and pissed off as ever, but instead you saw a tiny bit of worry, only a flash, but it had been there. You held his sight for a couple seconds before he huffed and looked away.

You felt calmer somehow, managing to stumble out an answer along the lines of ‘everyone deserves a second chance, everyone should have another go, but you cant let them push us around because then they'll take advantage.’

Final question, one more and then you could sit back down, you could sit quietly in the corner and wait for the day to end.

One. more. Question.

“If you could go back in time and change one event in your life, what would it be?”

Fuck this.

You shrug and take your seat behind Midoriya, leaving a confused Uraraka, and the whole class, to ponder your lack-lustre answers and sudden change of attitude.

~~~
Aizawa did first-day-back pleasantries, lessons started, and soon the day was over.
You rush out your seat and linger behind the class, hoping to pick up on pieces of information, or mannerisms, that could help you in the long run, but end up lost in your own thoughts.
That was before you walked face first into Bakugou. Who consequently did NOT look pleased to see you. At all.
“Fuckin hell, extra, watch where you’re going, you’re going to get yourself killed. And, as much as I hate you, apparently heroes help everyone, not just who they like. I also don't want to get in trouble.. Just, watch where the fuck your going.”
You look up at him, confused as to where he came from,not processing anything he said.
“The fuck?”
“Did you not hear any of what I said, extra?!” oh he's angry now.. Oops
“I'm just trying to get to my dorm?” you tilt your head to the side, and continue to stare at him, although he's now staring back at you, equally confused.
“Ugh just get out of my way, idiot.”
He huffs off up the stairs and you decide to follow him, cause apparently you have no sense of self preservation, and you were still dased from whatever shitshow that conversation was.
Bakugou gets to his room and turns, noticing you're still there.
“What the fuck is your problem?!” he grabs the piece of paper with your dorm number on it, and as realisation hits him you see the 5 stages of grief flash through his eyes.
You look at him confused as to his motions before reading your own dorm number:
204
You look back up at him and them his door, which clearly states: 203
“Fuck.”
Notes:
* the reference is from Teen wolf, a scene in season 1, episode 9. One of the main characters is jokingly teasing a side character about his sexuality, while trying to get his help. He doesn't mean anything harm from it, more of an observation than a tease. the original like is:
"You swing for a different team, but you still play ball, don't you, Danny-boy"
Anyways, hope you all enjoyed the chapter, sorry it took so long, this planning chapters business is more time consuming than anticipated.
Notes:
I'm just gonna leave this here... hope yous enjoyed. Later chapters will be longer, I'm Just attempting to get a feel for who (if anyone) will be enjoying this premise.
