Chapter Text
Yuuri took the pasta off the stove to cool down. He tossed his towel over his shoulder and leaned down to grab his dog’s bowl. Just then, there was a knock at the door.
“Just a moment,” he called, filling the bowl and setting it back down. He crossed his apartment to the front door and swung it open.
There in a dark suit, out of breath and slightly disheveled stood Victor Nikiforov.
Yuuri went to shit the door, before Victor caught it.
“Wait, can we talk?”
“What is there to talk about?”
Victor pulled a pack of papers from behind him and handed them to Yuuri.
“She left me.”
“What?” Yuuri looked down at the paper and sure enough, they were divorce papers, signed and dated to a month ago. The interesting fact was that Victor’s ex-wife had issued them.
“What do you want me to do with this,” Yuuri asked.
Victor didn’t say anything for a moment.
“If you think you can just show up with divorce papers and ask me to sleep with you again you can just-“
“No. No, Yuuri. I… I came to ask you on a date. A real date. Where I hold your hand across the table and hold the door for you. Where I kiss you while we sit for our taxi…. I messed up. It took me watching you walk away twice to realize you were right. I was lying to myself for so long. To Ana for so long. I can’t defend my actions and I can’t make up for how I hurt you, but I promise Yuuri, I’ll do it right this time. I’ve loved you since the first time I saw you. It took me 13 years but I’m here. Please, just one date.”
Yuuri stood unsure of what to say. He’d dreamt of this moment time and time again and now that it was here he didn’t know what to do.
“Say something…?”
“I don’t know what to say?”
“Yes, maybe?”
“I need to think about it.”
“That’s okay! I can wait.”
Yuuri nodded and closed the door before sinking into it.
What was his thinking?
——
A week later, Victor picked him up outside his apartment at 7 with a bouquet of flowers. He took him to a lovely restaurant where they talked, really talked, about everything. They laughed and even cried a bit before they finished their dessert, tipsy of their wine.
Victor drove Yuuri back to his apartment and walked him to the door.
“Do you want to come in,” Yuuri asked.
Victor simply shook his head, “I’m doing things right this time.” He kissed Yuuri on the cheek. “Goodnight, Yuuri.”
“Goodnight, Victor…. we should do this again sometime.”
“We should, Victor smiled, before he took off back down the hall.
