Chapter Text
A week after Sam starts sleeping in Dean's room, the boys return to hunting, both needing something to do. Sam is better and sleeping everyday so Dean agrees to find a case.
Sam finds a case in Ohio, what seems to be vamps by the articles he found. They take the 14 hour ride to Ohio, when they arrive at the rundown motel Dean asks Sam to grab their bags while Dean checks them in.
"Why'd you get one bed?" Sam asks confused when he steps in the room "Figure you sleep in mine every night anyway, plus it's cheaper" Dean shrugs. "Do you want me to ask for a different room?" Dean asks, a little red from embarrassment, he'd just figured they'd be sleeping together. "No, it's okay. You're right anyway, no need for two." They spend the rest of the day between the coroner's office and police department.
They finish the hunt in two days but decide to spend another day at the motel considering Dean wants to sleep before they hit the road. Sam walks back into the room after his shower to see Dean already passed out on the bed. He shoves Dean a little and grimaces, "Dean, your covered in blood and guts and who knows what else, get off the bed." Dean groans getting up, "Okay, okay I'm going" "You stink. There's hot water left, take a shower."
While Dean is in the shower Sam waits on the bed, not wanting to fall asleep without Dean. Sam and Dean haven't shared a bed since Sam was around 13, that's when John deemed them too old to be sharing a bed. Sam thinks he should feel uncomfortable about sharing a bed with Dean considering they're two fully grown men but when Dean has an arm around him, warm and comforting, all he can think is that he feels safe.
Sam doesn't realize Dean is out of the shower until he's crawling into the bed, pulling the covers up to his chest. "C'mon Sammy." Dean holds out one arm for Sam to come closer. When Sam lays down next to him, Dean feels at peace, he's grown to look forward to this time of the day, just the two of them when they can both feel each other, alive, breathing, hearts beating deeply.
They arrive back to the bunker around dinner time the next day, all either brother wants to do is sleep. As much as they needed this hunt, the fighting took it out of them along with the drive. Sam makes sure to get their clothes in the wash while Dean puts the weapons away, Dean finds it almost therapeutic to do so. He enjoys cleaning them and doing small inventory so Sam always lets him.
It's 2:33 AM when Dean wakes up, Sam started thrashing in the bed, groaning like he was in pain. "Sam. Sam!" Dean shakes Sam to wake him up. "Huh? Oh. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry Dean" Sam wants to cry, he's already tearing, he's scared. Sam doesn't know what to do, they're back, it's never happened when he was with Dean. "Why Dean? Why won't they just go away?" Sam curls into Dean like how he used to when they were younger, he's in a fetal position with his face in Dean's neck. Sams angry, he's confused, he's crying now. "Let it out Sammy." Sam starts hitting Dean's chest, not hard enough to really hurt Dean but he doesn't know what else to do. He's standing now, throwing whatever he lays his eyes on, pillows, lamps, the clock flies at the wall and shatters. He gets on top of Dean and starts hitting him again, slightly harder this time. Dean has to grab Sam's wrists when the punches get too hard, "Alright Sam, it's alright, it'll be okay." Sam drops onto Dean's chest and quickly realizes he should get off, Dean has a, uh, problem.
Sam's eyes widen slightly realizing their position, Sam on top of Dean, Dean holding his wrists while also sporting a boner, Sam's own dick starting to perk up. "I'm sorry." Is all he gets out before quickly rolling off of Dean and going to his own room. Dean feels like an ass, it's not like he can control it, he doesn't even know why it happened (is what he tells himself even though he's sure he knows). Sam doesn't go back to sleep, he can't, and he won't go back into Dean's room, it'll only be awkward.
When Sam knows Dean will be up soon he goes to make breakfast, he does it all to get his mind off everything, makes pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage, and puts on a pot of coffee. He gets two plates of food ready, he decides to eat in the library, he doesn't want to see Dean yet. Dean is hesitant to get out of bed but he figures if Sam did it he can too, he realizes Sam made breakfast but he's nowhere to be seen. Next to the plate of food is a note that simply reads 'yours'.
When sam comes into the kitchen to clean his plate, Dean is still eating but on the computer, "Where ya been?" "Went to the library. Wanted to be alone." There is a long silence while Sam does his dishes, neither brother wants to talk about what happened last night but it's inevitable. "I'm sorry for last night, I-I don't know what it was, it won't happen again." Dean tells Sam. "It's alright" Sam replies shortly before walking out.
Sam barely talks to Dean all day, he only talks when he's spoken to and even then it's short responses, it keeps up so long that Dean is sure Sam hates him now, he's sure Sam will find some other way to sleep from now on.
Dean is in his room, sullenly watching a movie (he doesn't want Sam to hate him, he just wants his little brother) when Sam gets into the bed with him. Dean is surprised but doesn't say anything until Sam speaks first, "You don't have to be sorry for last night, it's okay. It happens." "But I do, it was wrong. Just let me be sorry, please." Dean tells him. Sam doesn't respond, he only curls into Dean and tries to sleep.
