Chapter Text
The reign of Angus McFife and Iona McDougal was one of legend. The brave and noble warrior of Justice who wielded the ancient Hammer of Glory became famed for his heroic quests, and many an adventurer would raise a glass in his name. The fearsome and brilliant witch-queen of Fife who wore the amulet of justice became infamous for her tactics, and many a noble or general would shudder in fear at her name.
As their story became legend, new embellishments to their tale began to spread. That Angus had saved the princess from an evil wizard that had frozen her heart to ice. That the dark princess of Dundee had not died, but simply left the world after her beloved’s death to travel to realms beyond our own. Even as the legend grew and shifted over the centuries, the base components remained the same: a child princess taken and raised by cruel darkness. A hero of justice rising to take the throne. A confrontation between that light and dark. Warrior and Princess fall in love. The dark threatens to crush that young love for the throne. The heroes of justice fight to rescue the princess, and the princess gives something precious to seal away the darkness forever.
Even the most fanciful legend starts from a grain of truth.
Under the cover of night, the dark robed figures creep through the ancient tombs and mausoleums of Dundonian royals past. Down into the darkest, deepest levels that had gone undisturbed for centuries until they came to a pair of stone sarcophagi. Each was topped with a carved figure as if asleep. The features had been worn smooth from the passage of time, but the base details were still visible. One was a man holding a hammer on his chest. The other was a woman with a jewelled amulet upon her breast. It was this tomb that the thieves broke open. Once the stone lid was removed, the leader reached inside and plucked out a necklace made of pure silk with a gem as white as snow. In the gloom of the crypt the gem glowed warmly for a few moments and then the light slowly died, leaving the area in darkness once more.
“Are you sure this will work, Tharenzul?” one hissed to their leader.
“Of course it will,” snapped the leader, a grin of madness on his face as he admired the no longer shining crystal amulet. He tossed it into a dusty corner of the tomb and dusted off his hands. “Let’s go. Our master has waited long enough for his revenge. We should be there to greet him”
The agents of chaos left the ancient and now desecrated tomb.
On the far away moon of Triton, an ancient frozen crystal began to crack…
