Fall in love, naturally

Chapter 7: Chapter 07

Chapter Text

Maggie and OA were in the car and for the first time, OA was driving, because he knew Maggie was worried about what was going to happen. Today, everything was going to change and they were going to have to talk to Isobel about it as soon as possible. OA parked the car in the parking lot and turned off the engine before turning to Maggie, she was silent and playing gently with her fingers.

- Are you nervous ?

Maggie smiled at him, he knew her by heart, there was no point in denying it. She turned to him, not trying to avoid his gaze, he was there, with her, that wouldn't change.

- I'm worried... I don't want the other people's gaze to change.

Omar took her hand and squeezed it lovingly. Maggie intertwined their fingers and they stayed like that for a few seconds.

- Hey... That won't change... You're one of the best agents I've ever worked with and I'm not saying that because we're together. Nothing will change that.

Maggie smiled at him, leaned down, placed a quick kiss on his lips before pressing her forehead to his. It was very rare that they were so close at work, but this morning, they needed each other's support.

- Let's go.

They got out of the car at the same time and Maggie immediately came to stand next to him. They headed towards the building together. As far as the couple knew, no one else knew, or at least no one said anything, which made their job easier. It had been a year and four months since their first kiss and despite a few moments of worry, more than they should have on a few occasions, they were managing their personal relationship and their partnership perfectly.

So when Isobel saw Omar knocking on her desk, Maggie at his side, she wondered what was going on. She motioned for them to come in, which they did without waiting.

- Can we talk to you ?

She stood up, more and more worried.

- Yes OA, of course, is there a problem ?

They had never come to talk to her together and she felt that it was personal, she even wondered if they were not on bad terms, if they had not separated, but she quickly chased this idea from her mind by remembering having seen them leave in the car the night before, they smiled at each other and she had felt a little happiness at the idea that their relationship was working better than she expected.

They were hesitant and Isobel knew that they did not come to see her for nothing.

- Is everything okay ?

Maggie took her courage in both hands and said the words they had come to tell her.

She was pregnant. About two months pregnant, they had recently learned and Maggie could no longer go into the field so as not to take any risks with the baby.

Relieved, Isobel smiled at them and congratulated them sincerely. She approached Maggie, hugged her and did the same with Omar.

- Do you know that, now, it will no longer be possible to hide it from anyone ?

- Yes, we know that... But I think that with Maggie, we have proven ourselves for sixteen months.

Isobel smiled at them again.

- I think so too.

The couple talked for a few more minutes, before leaving the office. Maggie could no longer go into the field, she knew it, but it was worth it.

The weeks passed and Maggie's pregnancy was going wonderfully. Isobel had found her a job as an analyst and even though she missed the field work, she had to say that she managed to have busy days and never got bored for a second.

When Omar had time at noon, he had lunch with her. Their relationship was no longer a secret to anyone, the surprise had shocked more than one, but knowing that it had been for over a year and that everything was going well, no one had found anything wrong.

She was six months pregnant and watched Omar install the motion detector and the camera, the latest thing that Jubal had given them. They had installed it in the room that would be used for their baby. Maggie looked at the tablet to see if all the settings were correct.

- I think it's good OA.

He released the camera and stepped back to look at the tablet. The screen showed the box of the bed that they had not assembled yet, they had just placed it in the necessary angle.

- Perfect.

The camera was invisible, small and discreet, inserted in the curtain rod. They could seem paranoid, but their job required it. Maggie put her hand on her belly as she felt their baby move, Omar saw her smile and joined his hand to hers.

- The baby moves more and more...

- Yes... But I told you Maggie, it's a little girl in there.

She rolled her eyes, they had wanted to know the sex at the last ultrasound, but the baby was badly positioned, so they had to wait for the next one. Omar was certain that it was a girl they were expecting and he loved to remind Maggie of it. He had even already bought some clothes and even if Maggie made fun of him, she loved to see him so involved and so happy.

In the elevator, Isobel Castille went two floors below her office to ask Maggie if she had managed to gather new evidence on an old case that she wanted to study again, she had found similarities with a case she had investigated ten years earlier and wanted to see if it was not the same culprits. Her team being busy in the field, Isobel had asked this favor of Maggie who had accepted without hesitation.

On the way out, she passed an agent who was approaching the elevator.

- Isobel, I came to see you.

- Why, is there a problem ?

The agent whose name escaped her at the moment shook his head.

- No... But I think Agent Bell should go to the hospital, I have seen her several times having contractions, but she does not listen to me.

Isobel sighed, she thanked Agent Martinez, whose name was finally coming back to her, then walked past him while picking up her phone. She put it against her ear and waited for the person on the other end to answer.

- Jubal, try to contact OA. Tell him it's time.

She hung up, hoping he would manage to contact him in time. Isobel found Maggie, sitting at her desk, touching her stomach while trying to make the pain go away. She sighed, Maggie continued to be stubborn despite everything.

- Maggie ?

The latter looked up.

- Sorry Isobel, I couldn't finish...

- It's nothing. I'm taking you to the hospital.

She shook her head.

- No, there are still three weeks left...

- I think your baby decided otherwise, so I'm taking you. Come on now !

Realizing she had no choice, Maggie got up from her chair and followed her boss, after all, she was right and her baby seemed to want to be born sooner than expected.

In the car Isobel had already counted two contractions since they had started, a sign that labor had started well.

- Isobel ?

- Yes...

Maggie took a deep breath while clenching the door with her hand.

- Omar... I only asked you to call him once... But...

Isobel smiled.

- I already did Maggie, Jubal is taking care of it. He won't miss the birth of your child.

- Our daughter... It's a girl.

Isobel smiled while driving when she was stopped at a roadblock. She sighed and quickly got out of the car without turning off the engine.

- What's going on ? I have an FBI agent who has to go to the hospital right away in my car !

- Sorry, the road is closed.

Without any further explanation, Isobel gritted her teeth and got back in the car.

- What's going on Isobel ?

- Nothing, we're just going to take a little detour.

Without waiting, she passed through the construction site despite the employees' attempt to stop her. In a few seconds, they found themselves on the main road, ready to go to the hospital.

- You know Maggie, since the beginning of my career, I have from time to time seen agents who ended up having a relationship and unfortunately in most cases, it ended badly.

Maggie looked at her boss.

- I was worried about you and OA. But I'm glad you managed to compartmentalize everything.

- It wasn't easy, the hardest part was not to worry when the other was risking their life, because we both know that in some cases, our life can be in danger... But we trust each other and I know that there will still be difficult situations... But we'll get through it.

- I don't doubt it for a second.

Maggie smiled before closing her eyes and tightening the door as she felt another contraction twist her stomach. Isobel understood that her agent didn't have much time left before giving birth to her baby.

- Maggie...

- He's going to blame himself for the rest of his life if he misses this... He has to be there... Please Omar...

Maggie was talking to herself, but Isobel saw a few tears running down Maggie's cheek. So, she accelerated, determined to arrive on time. She pressed her earpiece.

- Jubal ? Where's Omar ?

She sighed in relief before turning off her earpiece.

- He's on his way Maggie. He'll be there.

The latter smiled before wiping away her tears, he'll be there.

*** **** *** **** *** **** ***

Omar arrived seventeen minutes after Jubal's call and he hoped that these seventeen minutes were not too much and that he had not missed anything. He would blame himself for the rest of his life if he missed the birth of their daughter. He approached the reception, but was interrupted by Isobel who had noticed him.

- Omar, she's over there.

- Is she okay ?

Isobel nodded.

- Yes and she's waiting for you.

He sighed with relief and followed his boss who guided him to a delivery room. He pushed the door open and when he saw Maggie, lying on a bed who smiled at him when she saw him, this time, he was really reassured, he had not missed anything. She reached her hand out to him, a hand that he took without waiting before placing a kiss on it.

- I'm here... I'm here now.

- Yes... I knew you wouldn't miss this.

- Never.

Two hours later, after pain, fatigue and a lot of worry because their daughter wouldn't come down. With one last push, Maggie let herself fall back onto the bed as a scream pierced the silence of the room.

- There she is !

Omar sat up and seeing the tiny baby, dark hair, his heart melted with love for this little girl who seemed angry at the world.

- She's perfect...

The midwife smiled, cut the cord and handed the baby to Maggie who was just waiting for that. She put her hands under her baby's arms and placed her against her chest. The little girl calmed down immediately, her eyes open, looking at her father's face who never stopped smiling while shedding a few tears.

Omar turned to Maggie, he leaned down and kissed her on the lips, then on the forehead and another on the cheek.

- I love you... You were great.

- We have a little girl OA... She's beautiful.

- Yes... Just like you.

They both started laughing, cuddling and talking to their daughter who finally seemed to be at peace. Maggie looked at the midwife who seemed to have finished taking care of her.

- She's three weeks early... Is she okay ?

- I'm going to do the first tests, but given how much she screamed, I'm sure she is.

She approached and took the baby who let out a little cry, Maggie resisted the urge to grab her baby, but she let it happen, the midwife left the room.

- Go with her Omar... Please.

He placed a last kiss on Maggie's forehead and left the room. Their work had left them with many bad memories of kidnappings and such and they didn't want to take any risks by letting their daughter out of their sight for even a minute.

He watched the midwife take care of his little girl with tenderness and delicacy.

- What is this little princess's name ?

Omar smiled, they hadn't looked for a name that would please them both for long. One evening, a few weeks earlier, Omar had said this name out loud and they had both fallen in love with it.

- Iris.

The midwife smiled and swaddled Iris before taking her in her arms and handing her to OA.

- She's doing very well.

- Thank you... Can I take her back to Maggie ?

- Of course. Go ahead.

OA placed a kiss on her daughter's forehead and turned on her heels.

- Come on sweetheart, let's go see mommy.

Back in the room, OA saw Maggie half sitting on the bed, she seemed exhausted, but the smile on her lips couldn't hide her happiness. He approached, still holding Iris in his arms, and handed her to Maggie who took her without waiting.

- Is she okay ?

- Very good. She's perfect.

Iris stretched and moved her head to the left while opening her eyes, she stared at her mother who kept looking at her. Omar looked at them, he was in total love in front of Maggie and Iris, he wiped away a furtive tear that Maggie spotted.

- OA ?

He smiled and settled on the edge of the bed, near them.

- I'm fine. I'm happy. I love you both and....

He looked down, searching for his words, hesitating. He bit his lip before looking back at Maggie.

- I love you and I know it's not the best time but...

Maggie smiled, placed Iris correctly in the crook of her right arm before raising her left and placing it on OA's cheek, he looked up at Maggie.

- Our daughter has just been born... You don't have to wait anymore for me to stop believing that you're doing this because I'm pregnant...

He opened his mouth, she knew... OA smiled, of course she knew.

- Marry me Maggie...

She smiled even more, brought her face closer to OA's, their lips very close to each other.

- Yes.

Without waiting, OA placed his lips on Maggie's and kissed her as he wanted, slipping his tongue into her mouth and gently holding her against him, while paying attention to the sleeping baby. They stayed like that for a long few seconds before they were interrupted by a knock on the bedroom door, it opened and Isobel slowly poked her head in.

- Can we come in ?

OA straightened up a little while staying close to his family.

- Of course.

Isobel was there, with Tiff, Scola and Jubal, they had come as soon as their business was finished and had waited for the news and when they had the green light from the Midwife, they had come to meet the baby Bell-Zidan.

Isobel stood next to Maggie who was still holding her baby against her.

- How are you Maggie ?

- Tired, but okay.

They introduced Iris Yasmine Zidan to their friends, Maggie had suggested this second name shortly after choosing Iris. That of OA's grandmother who had supported him who helped and advised him to integrate when he was a child and everything was complicated because of religion and the way others looked at him. A strong woman who had left them before Maggie could meet her. A perfect name for their beloved little girl.
