Over the years, WD grew ever more curious and inquisitive, sometimes asking questions with his voice and sometimes with his hands. Sans and Papyrus would try to answer to the best of their ability. But when a non satisfactory answer would be given, WD would take it into his own hands to find out more. It wasn’t long before he was well known at the library for checking out a new book every week without fail and immersing himself in it almost completely. But what intrigued him even more than having answers, was having more questions. As with every answer he’d only uncover more questions to ask. This excited him so he began to experiment with various different possibilities and practically lose himself in hypotheses and thought experiments, sometimes staring off into space, thinking of all the possibilities.
It wasn’t long before his brothers took notice of this. And enrolled him in school.
“Alright class…settle down.”
“Today we have a new student with us. Why don’t you introduce yourself.” Alphys said as she turned towards WD standing in front of the class.
‘Hello. I’m WD.’ He signed. Several students looked confused, except for one. A reindeer girl who recognized it immediately as sign language.
“Um…Ms Alphys…Is it ok if I…Translate for the new student?” She said nervously, afraid of making a bad impression. But to her surprise, WD grinned and signed a yes.
“I don’t see why not. Noelle, could you help our new student introduce himself please?”
Noelle nodded as she walked up in front of the class next to WD. She waved gingerly at him, to which he waved excitedly at her back.
“He said his name was…WD.” She said, fearing that she may have gotten it wrong but thankfully WD gave her a thumbs up of approval.
“And WD, What else do you want to erm..tell us about yourself?” Alphys asked.
‘I am fascinated by science and the mysteries of the universe.’
Noelle perked up a bit upon seeing what he signed. “Oh you like science and learning too? Maybe we can be friends? I mean if you’d like-“
But her speech was interrupted by a chuckle. “Surely he can’t be any better at it than I am.” Said a blue bird with his arms crossed and a smug expression on his face.
“Berdly…now’s not the time.” Noelle whisper yelled.
Berdly made a tsch sound in response as he indignantly crossed his arms.
“Alright…Um…WD please take a seat.” Alphys said as she guided WD towards an empty seat in front of yet another empty seat.
As he sat down, he could hear whispers from the other students.
“A human? I’ve never seen a human before!”
“Why is his face covered with his hair like that? Is he hiding something?”
“Nah he’s probably just ugly or something haha”
“No way! He’s gotta have totally rad laser eyes or something!”
“…humans can’t use magic…”
“Hooman smells liek…eg. Tem lovr it!”
All the whispers about him made WD sink into his seat. His cheeks blushing red with embarrassment. He never really liked being the center of attention. And having all of these students gossip about him made his skin crawl. But suddenly. A hooved hand placed itself gently upon WD’s shoulder. Causing him to jolt before seeing it was Noelle.
“I’m sorry about the rest of them…they’ll get used to you though. I’m sure they will.” She said trying to be reassuring, but in reality she was just as unsure as everyone else.
