Chapter 5: Prompt#10 - Stable

Summary:

The hyuran bookworm gets dragged out for exercise by her friend the dancer lizard! A trio of felines watch.

Notes:

Stable

1. Adjective - (of an object or structure) not likely to give way or overturn; firmly fixed.
2. Noun - a building set apart and adapted for keeping horses.
3. Verb - put or keep (a horse) in a stable. Alternatively can be used for a locomotive in a depo.

Something of another last-minute prompt, but I got there! I wrote something, and that's the main thing.

Shout-outs to Cynthia, for helping with the details and to Escher for planting the seed of training in my head with their prompt.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Gentle waves lap over pale sands in the twilight. Gentle torches burn, granting those who were practising in the western cave of Her Embrace more light with which to work.

Morgana, who had spent most of the afternoon with her nose in yet another tome, while Manah worked diligently at her letters. The pair had, however, been found by Cynthia, who had spent much of her day practising magic with her tutor Akiko, who then saw fit to drag them both down to Morgana’s favourite place to train.

Manah now taking up a position with her sketchbook on a rock at the back with Lacey and Rhea at her side, all three watching the coaching session in progress.

Cynthia made every movement appear fluid and effort, which Morgana visibly struggled with. Every move was made with a wobble and a shake as she tried desperately to maintain stable footing on the ever-shifting wet sands. This became doubly difficult when Cynthia started having Morgana have only one foot on the floor. Waves slowly crept up behind her, threatening her shoes and the sand beneath them both, until the command came

“Freeze it and keep it frozen.”

The hyur closed her eyes and from silver-painted fingertips, cyan-blue ice motes wove down her precariously posed body until it made contact with the salty water. It took a few seconds before a hexagonal pattern spread from beneath her left foot, drawing a gentle ooh from the miqo’te on the rock.

“Now, make a circle of magic float around you that we can light those torches with.” Cynthia nodded towards the torches out towards the mouth of the cave, where they, as of yet, remained unlit.

Cerulean and cerise disappeared from view as Morgana began to focus hard. Maintaining two spells, one of which was one of her summons was generally something she did day in, day out. But to maintain three, while with fickle footing, this was going to take some focus.

Her brow twitched and slowly she opened her eyes to see and control the three orbs now circling around her twisted, balanced form.
Some how, she kept her balance, but she felt anything but stable.

69 seconds remaining... oops!
