Chapter Text
Brunette (2)
The day at school had just begun, And Kunikida was met with a paper ball being thrown at her skull. She had no idea what direction it even came from in the first place. The idealist reluctantly out of curiosity opened up the crumpled up sticky note, The writing of whoever wrote this wasn’t very good writing. In fact, Kunikdia has probably seen a third grader write better than that.
“Ur smart, What is the answer 2 question 8?”
Kunikida scanned all around the room to see who threw this at her skull (Which not to mention was thrown very hard for that matter) Her eyes locked on Dazai sitting at the back of the classroom, Her eyes changed to a look of desperation . Kunikida could tell her expression was total bullshit, But just decided to give her the damn answer so she would be left alone. She wrote down on the other side of the paper.
“72, Do your work.”
Kunikida irritatingly threw it back to her desk, Making sure to do so when the teacher had her eyes on the board instead of the class
PLOP
Another note from the brunette appeared on her desk, She was even more irritated, But read it anyway.
“School sucks Kuni!”
The nickname that Dazai had suddenly given her made her feel more irritated.
‘Why can’t she just do her work!’
The class continued to pass, With the brunette continuing to throw various notes to her. Kunikida managed to ignore them, But one note caught her eye.
“Meet me @ recess.”
The handwriting seemed quick and slightly messy, Kunikida didn’t know what the brunette wanted from her, But her curiosity was getting the better of her and she planned to meet her at recess..
When the period needed, Kunikida couldn’t help but feel anymore curious. She didn’t want to get involved with Osamus antics, But she couldn’t just ignore the note either. The blonde wasn’t sure where the brunette wanted to meet, But when she walked outside she spotted her by the door.
“Oh good! You actually listened to me for once!” She gazed into the idealists eyes.
“Yes i did, Now what is it you want anyway?” Kunikida crossed her arms irritatingly, She just wanted this to be over with.
“I kinda..Sorta..need your help with something..”
“No way, Go do it on your own!”
“Pleeeaase? You can’t say no to this face of pure desperation can you? That would be cruel!”
Dazai changed her expression, As if she were a needy child wanting candy from their mothers purse.
“Just help her and get this over with..”
Kunikdia sighed as she reluctantly followed the brunette, She lead her to the side of the school wall. Before they walked anymore, Dazai stopped her.
“You won’t tell?” Dazai looked at her complexion, Waiting for a reply.
“Did you brake school rules?”
“..Maybe..But it was an accident! I swear!”
Kunikida looked past her to see very clear words drawn on the wall,
“Dazai iz cool.”
Kunikida knew there was no way that was a so called “accident” that was completely on purpose.
“I thought I used washable marker..But I looked closer at the label and and it said permanent!”
“Why the hell did you even write that?”
“I thought it would be funny! But now 2 weeks of detention doesn’t make it feel funny anymore! Come onnnn! Help me get this off!”
Kunikida made an annoyed sigh, She didn’t want to get dragged into this and possibly also get in trouble. If she got detention..Her parents..She didn’t even want to think about the consequences.
Although despite the very possible consequences for helping the brunette try and wash sharpie off the side of the school, She knew Dazai wouldn’t shut up about it until she actually attempted to get the sharpie off.
The two tried a ton of methods, Until untimely the small container of hand sanitizer in Kunikidas pocket seemed to do the trick. After a ton of scrubbing using a wadded up paper towel, The wall didn’t even have a trace of the sharpie.
“Phew…I really should be looking at marker labels more closely from now on!”
Dazai let out a sigh of relief, She turned her head towards Kunikida clearly pissed.
“Yeah yeah whatever, If you pull a stunt like this again i’m not helping you.” Kunikda tucked away the hand sanitizer back into her pocket, Clearly not amused.
“Awh come on! Why not?”
“Because I have better things to do!”
“Like wha-“
RING RING RING
Dazais sentance was cut off at the sound of the bell, It seemed that cleaning up the wall look longer than they anticipated…
The rest of the day felt like an eternity, Kunikida breezed through her work while Dazai got easily distracted. Equations went out one ear and out the other, Her cursive pen strokes twirling on the pages.
COUGH COUGH
The professor cleared his throat.
“I will be calling everybody up to collect your tests you all took last Monday, Make sure your parents sign it and return it tommorow.”
Kunikida heard him call every student by their names, Until he had finally got to..
“Dazai,”
Kunikida watched as the brunnete sat up from her desk, Her face half bandaged along with her arms. Brunette locks of hair swayed side to side as she gently walked to the front of the room.
“Thanks sir.” Dazai muttered as she collected her paper, Her legs seemed to almost move by themselves as she walked back to her desk.
Kunikida managed to get a glimpse of Dazais mark, It was actually pretty good considering it was Dazai after all.
73%
Kunikida felt somewhat surprised she got a pretty good mark, Although if she herself got anything lower than atleast a 90%, Her parents wouldn’t be happy..
Kunikidas legs moved by themselves as she walked to the front of the room when her name was called, She looked at the professor and down at her paper. She felt her stomach drop almost completely.
63%
“No..This has to be a mistake! I can’t get a mark this low!”
“Sir..Are you sure this is marked correctly.?”
Kunikida mumbled confusingly,
“You didn’t do the back page,”
The professor replied as Kunikida looked to the back of the test, She had no idea there even was a back page with alot more questions..
“Can I retake it..? Please let me retake it!” Kunikida didn’t mean to raise her voice, But she did.
“No retakes, What you get is what you get. Go sit down.”
Kunikidas legs moved on their own again as she sat down, Her brain was filled with a thick fog the rest of the day.
**********
The bus ride home felt nerve racking, Kunikida stared intensely outside the window. Awaiting what her parents would think of such a mark. She thought of ways in her head how to avoid punishment, But either way her getting a lecture at home was inevitable.
As the other students got off the bus, Her home was becoming closer and closer.
“What will they think? I’ve never had a mark this low before..”
“Why didn’t I look at the back? God I’m such an idiot!”
“I am supposed to get a better mark than that!”
“Why do I have to be such a-“
“HEY DOPPO! YOUR STOP!”
The blondes heart almost flew outside her chest, She must’ve been so enveloped in her own thoughts she didn’t realise how long it had been..
Kunikida quickly gathered her things as she sprinted down the aisle, Her long skirt moving along with her every step.
“You better pay attention next time Doppo, I’m not gonna sit here all day ya know.”
“Sorry sir..”
Kunikida gulped as she quickly sprinted off the bus
VROOOOOM
The bus was gone, Now the blonde was left with her own thoughts.
As she walked up towards her house, Her head pounded, Her legs quivered, Her breathing felt uneven..
The blonde knew he only option was to open the door, And get a hour lecture by her parents.
“Oh hey sweetie!”
Her mother chimed as she greeted her, A soft smile present on her face.
“Hey mom..”
Kunikida responded, Her head hung down slightly. Her gaze fixated on the floorboards below her.
“So? How did you do on your test? Let me see it.”
“..”
“Kunikida? Show me the test!”
Kunikida didn’t want to be here, She wished she could hide in a cardboard box and never be seen again.
She wished she could just fade away, Or even become invisible.
As she stood there with no response, Her mother than unzipped her backpack and reached inside.
“63%???”
Her mother looked at the test and at Kunikida, Utterly disappointed.
“No daughter of mine gets a 63%! Are you even trying anymore Kunikida?!”
“Mom I-“
“NO EXCUSES! I can’t believe you think you can show up here with this grade, I hope you know this is unacceptable!”
“I know mom..”
“THAN WHY DID YOU COME HERE WITH THIS MARK!?”
“..Mom I’m sorry I didn’t mean to I-“
“NO! NO EXCUSES YOUNG LADY! I THOUGHT YOU CARED ABOUT YOUR GRADES!”
“Mom I do care I ju-“
Her words echoed through the room, I couldn’t even register what she was even saying anymore. Just hearing her loud banter echo throughout the house.
Eventually, I was excused to my room. I knew this was inevitable anyways, But it still stung.
It stung hard
