It was a quiet day within Nell and Diantha’s household. The two were sitting on their patio while watching over their daughter Estella, who pranced about with her Skitty doll and Diantha’s Gardevoir. The sight was enough to make Diantha’s heart swell with adoration and parental pride at the sight. To settle down and have a slice of domesticity was once a dream that she played in her movies, a mere act that she wished would follow her life off the set; So when she was granted such a wish, the feeling was nothing short of euphoric. First came the secret meetings with Nell, taken in between breaks of the shooting of a movie whose name was long forgotten. Then came the revelation of love and the promise to meet again. Eventually their meetings turned into partners acting on Diantha’s sets, which begot the cementation of their relationship, and then gave rise to the proposal of marriage.

Those beauteous set of events granted Diantha a fiercely devoted and adoring wife. Some time later, the pair were then granted the chance to have Estella whom Nell brought into the world. To have been bestowed a partner for life was something the actress was eternally grateful for, and she was forever content; So to be allowed the luxury of becoming a doting parent to her own child? Diantha was over the moon. The memories had her beaming.

Turning her attention to Nell, Diantha had intended to ask a question that would have allowed the two to waltz down memory lane; However, upon noticing the faraway expression on her face, the actress paused. Nell’s eyes were transfixed on the ground below them, hazy and unfocused as she worried her bottom lip. Her fists were balled against her lap, lightly bunching up the skirt she wore. The pensive expression on her significant other’s face caused the smile that earlier lifted the apples of Diantha’s cheeks to slowly wither, replaced by the scrunch of her brows and the light purse of her lips. Whatever could be plaguing Nell during such a wonderful moment? Reaching out a hand to gently unfurl the closest fist, Diantha began smoothing out the tension within Nell’s skin while leaning close in a gentle manner.

“Mon amour, are you alright? You look troubled. . . Has something happened that I’m unaware of?” Came her voice, feathery and comforting even while in a state of concern. While Nell had barely reacted to the touch in the sense of turning to look at Diantha, a shaky exhale and the minute relief within her posture was sign enough that she had been pulled from her thoughts to answer her wife.

“I feel. . Tired. Anxious. Bitter. I feel as if I’m being looked at only for what I can give instead of who I am.” Came Nell’s nearly lethargic response, a sour taste rising in her throat as she spoke her mind aloud. At the admission, Diantha’s worry grew. How long had she been holding in such thoughts and feelings? How many times has this instance occurred? As these thoughts filtered within her mind, Diantha’s worried expression pinched into a frown; It only deepened as she watched the love of her life open her mouth a few times before continuing her explanation.

“I love what I do. I love what I create. I love what I share; But how can I keep doing so when my time and effort is looked at so sparingly? Why must I be treated as if I have no feelings behind my creations, as if it’s okay to use me for one’s own personal enjoyment? It’s heartbreaking, and it wears me down.”

As she watched Nell obscure her facial features with her hair, Diantha felt herself deflate at the weight that her wife’s words carried. She herself knew the feeling all too well, as acting is not as fanciful and exhilarating as one would think it’s to be all the time; With this experience and knowledge, under no circumstance would Diantha let the love of her life feel self-depreciative and confused about her worth. That will never be something she stands for; What kind of wife would she be if so?

With a gentle click of her tongue, Diantha reached out and grasped both of Nell’s hands. This caused Nell to unclench her fists as her wife brought them over to her lap instead. “Darling, breathe. I understand the feeling, I know what you mean. But just breathe with me for a moment, yes?” She murmured, tilting her head slightly so her face was somewhat in Nell’s view. Once again refusing to face the actress, the only indication that she had heard her was the shake of her shoulders as they rose and fell slowly. After two more beats, Nell turned her head slightly so that she could gaze at her wife through her eyelashes. Despite knowing the gravity of the situation was serious, the way Nell was framed in Diantha’s view caused her to smile; to her, Nell looked like a withdrawn feline that needed to be reminded that they’re loved.

And so, Diantha did just that.

“Life will be parts pleasant and unpleasant. It will bring us people that we’ll loathe, and those that will loathe us. Likewise, it will give us people who adore us, and those that we’ll adore in return.” She murmured, letting go of her wife’s hands to reach upwards and cradle her cheeks within her palms. As she massaged the pads of her thumbs into her skin, the contact and affectionate manner sent wonderful chills down Nell’s spine and overflowing ardor through Diantha’s veins; She continued speaking.

“What matters is, when life with its many trials and tribulations seems to weigh you down, you focus on yourself and the beauties it has given you. It makes the world at least five times brighter than it originally is, and wholly brings.” Diantha smiled warmly at this, gently pulling Nell’s face close. A fairy light kiss was placed upon the tip of Nell’s nose, followed by a sweet one placed upon her lips. When she pulled away, Nell’s cheeks bloomed a crimson shade that made Diantha’s own don a cherubic hue; Gazing into the jewels that held each other’s unguarded souls made both women feel as if it were the first day they met all over again, and it was positively divine. . .

“. . . Thank you, Dear. Life has given me the most wonderful wife, and the most beautiful daughter we could have ever created. It does wonders to my soul whenever I look at either of you. I’m ever so grateful that you returned my affections, and there is never a moment where I don’t smile upon the thought.” Nell declared, reaching her own hands to rest above Diantha’s own. The two women beamed at each other, the air so filled with devotion and intimacy that it sent them into a fit of giggles. Several more gentle kisses were stolen and equally reciprocated before Nell spoke again, a charming and syrupy smile coating her next set of words.

“Words may fail me at times, but my physical actions will always speak volumes on how much I cherish you.” She murmured, leaning forward to press her forehead against Diantha’s own with a soft hum. It is in that moment that Diantha shines. The glow of the setting sun framed the Fairy and brought forth her evolution into an Angel; The Angel that gives Nell serene grace, no matter what the world may bestow upon her. It is in that moment, that the Angel wrapped her wings around the love of her life and imbued Nell with all the passion she could give. It was at that moment, that their feelings were reciprocated.

“I love you, Nell.”

“And I love you, Cariño.”

Notes:

This is a story for the beloved Sphinx! I had originally planned to have a fic up for your birthday, but I also didn't want to rush this and get things wrong! Eventually the fic was scrapped as I studied Nell and Diantha more; After a certain event (I that I'm sure you'll guess this story is inspired from), I decided to write this for the two as I believe it showcases their love in a way others should see! Please accept this as a belated birthday gift, and as a symbol of how much I adore Costarshipping!~

I hope you enjoyed this, it took me a while! I wanted to make sure I took extra care with the details for Diantha and Nell!

Up next is a gift for Nerine, Morty and Eusine!
