Chapter Text
Maka's POV
She wasn't sure how long she sat there after falling. The blood coming from her shoulder took a moment to register, but after that, Maka couldn't help but panic. Her breathing quickened as she tried and failed to sit up, eventually crawling her way to a sitting position. The smoke that had earlier numbed the pain now did nothing but make her head hurt. Maka struggled to get any coherent thought together. She was about to resort to scooting on her butt on the ground, when she heard a voice in front of her.
A familiar jacket came into view, and she heard the same voice she had heard in the library only a day before. "Hey, you okay?"
Maka tried to stand up, getting only a few inches off the ground before giving up, landing on her butt again. "Yeah....Yeah, just." Maka paused before continuing, "just in a predicament."
Quinn moved closer. "Mind if I help you? I don't normally talk to girls much, but I'll make an exception just this once."
"Thanksss." Maka trailed off into a hiss of pain when he grabbed her by the armpits, roughly dragging her to her feet. He held her up by her arm tightly, dragging her as she stumbled behind him, until they reached a van on the road. The tires seemed rotted, like it hadn't moved in a long time. Quinn pulled out a key, before opening the door up, pulling her into the back.
She sat on the edge of the bed that took up most of the area, while he grabbed something. She looked around a little bit, but her vision was still blurry, all she could make out was vague blurry images on the wall. When she squinted more, she could just make out the naked figure of a man, at which point she stopped trying to look. Quinn noticed her looking around, and grinned proudly. "My boyfriend." Maka just nodded. Who was she to question someone else's relationship.
Quinn pulled out bandages and a jar of burbary. When Maka smelled it though, she retched, leaning out of the van just in time to puke out the door. Quinn simply looked on silently. When she sat back up eventually, wiping her mouth on her arm, he carried on, quickly wrapping her shoulder. It was too tight and uncomfortable, but it would suffice. When Quinn finished, he grabbed her arm the same way he had before, roughly dragging her back to the ladder. "Climb."
"Thank you for helping me out." Maka rubbed her eyes a little bit, her head feeling slightly clearer. Quinn nodded acknowledgement, before turning and walking off, leaving Maka to face the ladder once again. She carefully climbed up, this time making it up, before going inside, heading straight to the restroom. No one else seemed to be awake when she finished her shower, getting all the puke off, so she quickly went to her bed to change, before laying down to get a little bit of sleep. Maka's eyes barely closed though, before her uncle was there, gently shaking her shoulder.
Maka opened her eyes, before slowly sitting up. Markala sat next to her on the bed, carefully clasping his hands in front of him. "I think we need to talk." Maka simply nodded. The herbs from before were still clouding her mind, but it was much better than it had been. "What happened to your shoulder?"
Maka took a deep breath, before slowly explaining what happened to him. She paused often, struggling to think, both due to the herbs and her own nerves. Maka looked at her lap as she spoke, avoiding eye contact.
When she finished speaking, she looked up, looking to see Markala's expression, but his face was unreadable. He simply patted her leg. "I'm so sorry, that sounds like it must have been terrible. What did the doctor say?" Maka just shrugged looking away. Markala looked at her carefully, before continuing, "I have a day off this weekend, let's go do something together. It's been too long since we really sat down and spent time together." "That sounds nice." Maka turned away from him then, starting to grab her things for class. She hadn't even touched her homework. Markala took it from her quickly without a word, filling it out with ease. By the time she finished grabbing everything, her homework was done and stuffed in her bag. "Thanks." She gave him a hug, before heading for the door. "Just...be safe, okay?" Markala gave her a smile, which she matched, before turning to the door, letting it fall from her face. Maka braved the ladder better than she had the day before, before heading towards school. She had no clue what time it was, so she sped her walking, hoping she wasn't late to class.
