The way his heartbeat was rising through his throat and lurking thunderously in his ears was definitely not being favourable at the moment, agitated by the mere image of the blond walking towards the door of his classroom before meeting him. Well, he might have looked excited, but could he really help it?
His orbs glimpsed at him for possibly longer than would be considered normal, judging by Tsukasa's slightly embarrassed appearance. His mind filled with empty thoughts abounded until the boy's voice called out to him.
"Rui!"
It wasn't until that moment that Rui realised he was staring at Tsukasa wordlessly, causing him to find himself embarrassed, covering his face with his hands sheepishly; muttering things to himself, such as, "Why did I do that?", "Rui you're stupid", "Ughhh!"
"Hey, Rui!" Tsukasa called out to him with laughter, "Take it easy! It's okay, it's okay!"
"Sorry, I didn't mean to stare at you for so long!" exclaimed the blushing and somewhat exalted violet-haired boy, resting his gaze on the ground and avoiding eye contact. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go lie down somewhere and die of embarrassment."
"It's okay, don't worry so much, I'm not bothered at all!" he replied with a chuckle, to relieve the other of his worries.
"Ugh... if you say so," Rui took a breath to regain his composure and feel able to look Tsukasa in the eye again, though as soon as he saw the way she was laughing he was mesmerized once more. "He's laughing. How can he just stand there and laugh and look so beautiful?".
At this point Rui had even forgotten why he had even gone there in the first place, he kept getting distracted (by Tsukasa) and had already made a fool of himself for the same thing.
"Ah, what I was coming to, I wanted to ask you yes, do you want to go with me to the rooftop and... maybe have lunch together? By the way, we could get to know each other a bit better! If you have nothing else to do" he gave him a small smile at the end of the sentence, the only thing the blond could think of was how much Rui's smile resembled that of a feline.
"You have a nice smile" the amber-eyed one remarked, absorbed in the detail.
"What?"
"It looks like a cat's smile"
"A cat?" he questioned as he chuckled lightly.
"Yes, a cat, it's cute" Tsukasa nodded with a chuckle. "Oh! You asked me something before" he said with a surprised expression, "You wanted to go to the rooftop, didn't you? Let's go before recess is over!"
The blond grabbed Rui's hand and headed towards the school's rooftop energetically, taking the other one by surprise. He was walking fast ahead of the purple-haired man; anyone would assume that he was being dragged, forced, dragged, as he couldn't keep up with him. Even though, technically, that's exactly what he was doing.
He just let himself be dragged around by Tsukasa, his mind too focused in the fact that he called his smile cute.
It wasn't a very long walk, and within a couple of minutes they were at their destination. It wasn't until they arrived that Tsukasa realised that all this time he had been holding Rui's hand. He had done it unconsciously, simply letting go of his hand, without thinking much about it.
Rui, for his part, still hadn't finished processing everything that had just happened, his heart was beating a mile a minute. Although he didn't know why, obviously it was because he was dragged by Tsukasa, but... there was something else, another reason, another feeling that he couldn't explain.
"What's wrong with my heart?", a question that echoed over and over again, like an echo in his mind. Bringing one of his hands up to his chest, he felt it beating as fast as if he had just run a marathon, and a slight blush (once again) was beginning to take over his face.
His heartbeat was so loud, he could hear it pounding in his ears, he wondered if Tsukasa could heart it too, but he wished, as much as he wanted, that he couldn't.
"Rui? Are you all right? You look a little shaken.."
"Yes, I'm fine, don't worry!"
"Hmm... alright"
Rui took a big breath, trying to calm his very stubborn heart.
"Why don't we sit in that corner over there?" He asked, pointing to the spot he was referring to, acting as if nothing had happened.
"Sure!"
Tsukasa walked to where Rui had pointed, followed by Rui, before they sat down side by side and then began to eat and talk about anything and everything.
Tsukasa mentioned his beloved younger sister, Saki, and his dream of wanting to be a big star. Rui was able to see the boy's eyes light up as he spoke, believing, from his point of view, that he already shone as bright as a star.
While the shorter one spoke, the opposite one just laughed and commented from time to time, as he didn't want to interrupt him. For he seemed quite enthusiastic when he spoke.
When it was his turn to talk about himself, and his interests, he started talking very excitedly about the inventions he designs and invents all by himself.
At one point, Rui was engrossed, talking about topics related to the internal structure of the robots he works on, naming the different materials and tools needed. To Tsukasa, the boy's voice was soothing, very soothing; which is why he dropped his head on the purple-haired boy's shoulder, causing him to freeze in place and remain mute for a few brief seconds.
"H-huh? Tsukasa?"
"Go on, you seem to be very interested in the subject.." he mumbled in a sleepy tone, but still in high spirits.
"Alright..." He accepted the request, and tried to calm down and not make a big deal out of the moment.
He "tried," for he felt as if his heart would burst at any minute, and it kept him from thinking clearly. Still, he picked up the conversation where he left off, becoming engrossed in his topics of interest, so much so that for an instant he forgot that Tsukasa was resting her head on his shoulder. But when he stopped responding with some humming or the like, the young man became concerned.
"Tsukasa?"
There was no reply.
"Oh, no."
Rui began to panic again, the thing he feared most happened. Tsukasa had fallen asleep on his shoulder.
TSUKASA. HAD. FALLEN. ASLEEP. IN. HIS. SHOULDER.
He didn't know what to do; wake him up? let him rest? what if he moved him somewhere else without waking him up? but what if he woke up? what if he got upset? His head was in chaos.
He was petrified on the spot, his cheeks burning crimson and the continuous rattling in his chest.
"What's going on?!" he asked to himself. He felt too many things at once and didn't know how to process it all, as, straight away, his brain was going to short-circuit.
Unmoving, he looked at the sleeping Tsukasa, who was resting peacefully on his shoulder.
"Haa... Why are you doing this to me...?" he lamented, as he laid a hand on Tsukasa's head, stroking his blond hair.
"So soft..." he muttered, before realizing what he was doing. Instantly, reproachful thoughts struck him.
He had no idea of anything at this point.
Until at a certain point he gave up, seeing that the other boy was not waking up. He decided to take a short nap too, as he hadn't slept a decent amount of hours. Would they be skipping the next class? Yes, however, that was the last thing he cared about (panic aside). Being like this with Tsukasa wasn't really bad, it was even a good thing for Rui.
He hesitated, but, ended up resting his head on Tsukasa's, resting it on his houlder; it was like a puzzle that fit perfectly. For some reason, Rui felt a warm feeling invade his chest, it was soothing and made him feel at peace. It was only a matter of time before he fell into a deep sleep.
By the way they looked... anyone who saw them could think they were a couple skipping classes together.
