Chapter Text

“Remus, get up. Breakfast ends soon.” James rustles the curtains around Remus’ four post bed. Remus groaned but complied, rubbing his eyes with a yawn and stretching a bit, still under the blanket before getting out of bed. He was tired. He could of sworn he lost sleep because of Isla and Sirius last night. Seriously, what couple has sex with three other men in the room with a curtain dividing it? Fucking hell.

“Sirius, you too. Up.” James rustles his curtains too as Remus came out from behind his own and began scrambling around for his uniform, specifically his tie which he swore he always lost. At first, Remus didn’t really want to change in front of the others - but it all seemed like a normal thing to them if it was just shirt or pants, so Remus got used to it.

“Sirius! I said get up, or we’re leaving you here. Don’t start this late business again.” James raises his voice a bit, most likely irritated from last night too. Remus was doing up his tie then slipping his shoes on before James walked over to Sirius’ bed and opened the curtain, instantly irritated at the sight of Isla still here.

“What the fuck?!” Pete frowned angrily at the sight. Remus didn’t blame him. He was pissed too. They all shared this dorm - it wasn’t Sirius’. Sirius never asked to even let Isla come over for a little bit, let alone the whole night.

Isla began to wake up too and sat up, freeing herself from Sirius’ arm around her, stretching up and adjusting to the scene before remembering where she was.

“Oh. Hey boys.” Isla said casually as she slipped out of bed and grabbed her school clothes from the day before then walked to the bathroom, as if she didn’t notice the three other boys with steam fuming out their noses and ears.

“C’mon Sirius, really?” James huffed when Sirius opened his eyes, as he walked over to check his hair in the mirror. “You didn’t even ask any of us. How would you feel if we brought a girl around, slept with her with a curtain dividing us from all of you then let her stay the night?”

“Wouldn’t care, mate.” Sirius stretched out from under the blanket, his pale chest visible as he stretched his arms above his head.

Remus didn’t really join in on the conversation, he did side with Peter and James on this one, but didn’t want to be involved. However, this didn’t mean he was any less angry. Is this what Sirius did commonly? Remus gave Sirius a pissed off look, which Sirius did acknowledge with some raised eyebrows. Remus still hadn’t brushed his teeth or hair - let alone showered, but he didn’t have time for that, so he had to wait until Isla came out. She left without a word, might Remus mention.

Sirius wasn’t out of the bed by the time the other three left. He must’ve shown up late, because at lunch he slumped down at the table in the cafeteria, looking slightly upset but not too bad.

“What’s up with you?” James asked, as if last night or this morning didn’t happen. Is this really how it went? Sirius brought Isla over, let her stay the night and they all forgot it in the morning. Did it always go Sirius’ way?

“Broke up with Isla.” Sirius murmured, shoving a bit of bread roll into his mouth.

“Oh shit.” Peter commented.

“Really?” James and Remus said in unison - Remus speaking out loud, however, was accidental.

“How come?” James asked.

“Her friend told me she’s only with me for reputation. True or not, made me reflect and realise she’s actually a nasty bitch.”

The other three boys agreed with the end part.

“Guys! Dorcas complimented my jacket.” Marlene did a twirl in her leather jacket before sitting beside James.

“Your jacket that isn’t uniform, might we mention?” Peter chuckled.

“Well! Doesn’t need to be mentioned if it makes her notice me. Oh- heard you and Isla broke up.” Marlene turned to face Sirius. What the fuck? How quickly did information like this spread around the school.

“Correct.” Sirius nodded, as if he’d been asked or told this a million times today.

“Good. Hated her.” Marlene scrunched her nose up then began eating some of her own food. Remus thought she was funny, honestly. He wanted to get to know her better. She seems like a good friend.

“Hey Remus?” James asked as the pair were walking to their History class together.

“What’s up?”

“Can I have some girl advice?” This almost made Remus laugh, until he realised James was being serious.

“I mean- yeah, sure. I can try. Might not be able to help much.” Remus answered honestly.

“How come? You’re handsome. Surely you got heaps of ladies at your old school.” James said, genuinely confused but curious.

“No- I’ve never dated a girl. I’ve been asked out before, but I’ve never dated a girl.” Remus muttered, he didn’t like explaining this. He hoped that James would be supportive. Remus was Bisexual, so he did like girls, but his preference was men. Just happened to be that the girls that asked him out weren’t really his type.

“But you said you’ve dated before..? Oh shit. Are you gay?” James eyes widened in realisation.

“No, Bisexual.” Remus corrected.

“Oh. Okay. Cool. Then your advice will still work. You know how I like Lily-” James spoke. Remus was a bit shocked, James moved on as if it was nothing, which was cool.

“Wait, you like Lily?” Remus asked as James’ words only just processed through his head. Then he thinks back to interactions between James’ and Lily. “Ohhh. Yeah that makes sense. Continue.”

“I want to ask her out. Like take her on a date. But I don’t know where.” James sighed.

“She seems like a simple girl. A lunch date, maybe? At a cafe?” Remus suggested.

“I was thinking that, but what if it’s not enough?” James groaned.

“I think it will be - some girls like fancy but some girls don’t like over the top. Worst case is she’ll subtly hint she wants something fancier, but I think it’ll be fine. Just try it.”

Remus walked back into the dorm after his last class of the day to see Sirius lying on his bed with his headphones on.

“You know where James is?” Sirius asked.

“I think he’s mentally preparing himself to ask Lily out, then is about to, if he doesn’t chicken out.” Remus answered as he walked over to his bed and sat his bag down.

“And Peter?”

“Wouldn’t have a clue.” Remus turned around to look at him. “What’re you listening to?”

“Five Years by David Bowie.” Sirius replied casually.

“No way. You listen to Bowie?” Remus’ eyes widen.

“Yes! You too?” Sirius sat up in bed, eagerly invested in the conversation now.

“Fuck yes. What’s your favourite song?” Remus walked over to sit beside Sirius on Sirius’ bed.

“Probably this one or… Oh! You Pretty Things. What’s yours?”

“The Prettiest Star, maybe. Or Soul Love.” Remus ran through his memory to remember his favourites.

“That’s so cool. I swear most people our age don’t listen to him, at least not at this school. Never have anyone to talk to about him.” Sirius groaned.

“Neither, maybe one or two at my old school. At least we can talk about him to each other then?” Remus chuckled.

Later that night after James and Pete came back - James did successfully ask Lily out, who said yes, but James never specified a time or date so now he’s beating himself up about it. - Remus got out of his bed and muttered he was going on a walk to the others. Really, he was just going for a smoke. He had one multiple times a day, but the night time one was actually the hardest to get away with. He assumed the other boys thought he just always did night time walks.

“You always go on these walks, where too, huh?” Sirius followed out behind him, making Remus jump a little but sigh with relief.

“I go for a smoke.” Remus told him honestly as he continued walking down the hall then to a window he found on his first day, a window he could get out of and sit on the roof.

“Can I come?” Sirius asked. Remus nodded.

So as the two boys were sharing a smoke, it was silent for a bit before Sirius spoke up. “Look, I wanna apologise for being a bit of an asshole since you came. I don’t really have a reason. Just me being me.”

“It’s fine. You’re not now. So long as you don’t get with another girl that’s like Isla - choose a nicer one next time.” Remus joked.

“Oh yeah. What about you? Any girlfriends at your old school?” Sirius asked.

“No, I prefer guys.” Remus yawned casually, James accepted it so Sirius should too. But Sirius’ eyes widened a bit. “I mean- I’m Bisexual, but I’ve never been with a girl.” Remus added on, as if the situation would be any better if Sirius didn’t support that.

“Oh- Cool. That’s cool.” Sirius nodded. Remus thought he still looked a bit shocked.
