Chapter Text
The moment that we were dismissed from the choir,
So that adults might do whatever they do
Once the youth is dismissed,
Josh and I were the first ones
Peeling off our robes
And running down the aisle.
The Whites stared daggers into me as we ran past,
And I’m sure Josh’s family did the same.
Our brothers and sisters stood,
Every little boy and girl itching to leave that dark cathedral.
We ran right into the field, Josh and I,
And he looked at me
And for the first time, he asked me
“Do you wanna get in trouble?”
And for the first time,
I answered with a nod.
And for the first time in about two years,
I think I felt excitement rather than anger.
