Chapter Text
When you opened your eyes, you could tell it was day. Through the crack of the entrance of your pillow fort, the golden light of the sunrise creeped in, burning your eyes. A small grunt of discomfort left you as your eyes shut tight. You felt a large hand pet your head softly, then fall back behind it. A twinge of confusion went through your head, but then you remembered where you were. More importantly, who you were with. You slowly lifted your head and saw Faust, face uncovered, drooling slightly as he slept. It was honestly the cutest thing to see him sleep so peacefully. You were well aware how nights usually went with him, nightmares cutting through down to his very core, waking up shaking and in tears. A lot of nights were spent just calming him back down, reassuring him that it was just a dream. He never wanted to talk about them and you never pushed. It made this sight that much sweeter, though. Especially when a small smile tugged at his lips.
After a decent amount of time laying and staring at your lover, you carefully maneuvered out of his hold, replacing your spot with a large pillow. Faust hugged it tight in your absence, but he seemed to sense you were gone as the smile slowly faded. It tugged at your heart a bit, but you knew it was time to make breakfast. If you didn’t, you knew Faust wouldn’t eat until lunch… if he ate lunch at all, that is. You yawned as you walked to the kitchen, trying to be quiet as you searched through the pantry to find something to make. The pancake mix caught your eye, deciding that it’s an easy enough dish to make, and one of Faust’s favorites. Light, but filling, easy for him to eat. Still trying to be at least somewhat quiet, you got out a bowl to start mixing the batter.
Once the batter was complete and you poured it into the pan to make the first pancake, you realized you weren’t as quiet as you thought. A small grunt could be heard from the tv room, and soon enough you saw a brown bag overtop the back of the couch. After a minute, it turned slowly and looked at you, red eye half open, the glow dimmed due to the owner just waking up. Faust called out to you, voice deeper and shakier than normal due to his state. “What are, you… doing?” He asked, starting, and struggling a bit, to stand up and shuffle his way over to the kitchen. You explained your breakfast plans and he hummed, sitting at the table and propping his head up on his hand with a small sigh. He definitely wasn't paying attention, too tired to notice what exactly you said you were making. Several minutes passed, and the pancakes were done. You plated them up, topped with some berries and syrup, as well as a bit of whipped cream as a treat to both of you.
You turned and started walking to the table, only to stop as you noticed Faust fell asleep again. A small giggle bubbled out of you at the sight. Poor thing must really be tired. This did give you an opportunity to ready some drinks. A coffee for each of you sounded right this morning, and so you grabbed some mugs and started brewing some. Faust’s was more cream and sugar than coffee, something you always teased him for. You decided to let him off the hook today though, setting your mugs down and gently nudging him back awake for breakfast.
“Mmng… huh? Oh, did I… fall… asleep?” Faust looked at you, reaching a hand up under his bag to rub at his eye. You laughed a bit and nodded, but explained you didn’t mind at all, in fact, you found it cute. His blush somehow creeped onto his bag at that, something you never understood, but chalked it up to his strange magic. After a moment, he must have realized what was in front of him, eye going wide in excitement. “Made, pancakes?” Faust asked, pointing to them as if he was in disbelief that they were there. You nodded and told him to enjoy, saying you added a special surprise. Faust eagerly took his fork and cut a piece, sticking it under his bag to eat. After a couple of chews, his eye lit up even more. “Chocolate chip!” he exclaimed happily, though it was a bit muffled due to his mouth being full. You laughed as he put a hand over his bag, silently apologizing for speaking with food in his mouth. Once he swallowed, he lifted his bag slightly, just past his lips, and took a sip of his coffee. “Oh, this is… wonderful,” he hummed, half to you, half to himself. You could see his smile as he took another sip, licking his lips so he didn’t miss a single drop.
You both continued eating, Faust making happy little noises and gestures, all while continuously thanking you for the pancakes and coffee. No matter how many times you make him food, prepare him a drink, or anything for that matter, he thanked you like you just gifted him a gold mansion. It would have been annoying if you didn’t know how absolutely genuine every word was. Faust always gave things. He gave and gave until he had nothing to give, sometimes still trying to give more despite that. You knew he never asked for anything, even turning down a lot of things he was offered. Receiving things was very new to him. It took some getting used to on both of your parts, you learning not to smother him in attention and gifts, and him learning that it was okay to accept those things from you. It was certainly a journey, but you both happily walked it, hand in hand as you learned each other.
Faust chugged the last of his coffee and set his mug down, sighing happily at having a full belly of warm breakfast. You had finished your food before him, as per usual. Faust ate pretty slowly, having to fight his thoughts of not needing or deserving any food he was provided. He is much better at remembering to eat on his own, but it will still take some time for him to be fully used to it. Faust got up and grabbed his dishes, then grabbed yours and took them to the sink. The dishes settled a bit, startling him as they clanged into a new position. Faust then walked back to you, picking you up out of your chair and hugging you close to him as he walked back to the pillow fort, you giggling and kicking playfully all the while. Despite how scrawny he is, he can pick you up like a doll no problem.
“Want more, cuddles,” Faust snickered as he set you down and got back into the fort, still only able to fit half of him. You crawled in, scolding him for picking you up like that, but he just looked at you. You could feel the smirk through his bag and you just rolled your eyes, pulling a giggle from the doctor. Faust reached out, easily wrapping his arms around you and pulling you on top of him. Both of you laughed and hugged, but soon it died down to just quiet snuggles. The moment soon turned to quiet a few minutes of you just laying on his chest, listening to his steady breathing and heartbeat. Faust played with your hair with one hand and stroked your back with the other. You could almost fall asleep again…
A light tap on your forehead jolted you awake, having dozed off a bit. You looked up at Faust just in time for him to tap your nose and chuckle to himself. He went to do it again, but you playfully nipped at his finger. A noise of surprise left the doctor as he pulled his hand back before you actually bit his finger. (Not like you would, he knew you were just teasing.)
“Feisty…” he mused, electing to go back to playing with your hair. You flash him a grin, showing your teeth as if to say you'll do it again. Faust simply chuckled at that. “Want, to bite me?” he asked, putting his hand on your cheek and rubbing it gently with his thumb. You laughed and said that you might if you felt like it. Faust simply hummed in response, his hand moving to rest on your shoulder.
Despite all the teasing, neither of you really felt like doing anything other than continuing to just hold each other. It's not like either of you had anything to do today. (You made Faust take at least one day off a week, much to his workaholic dismay.) The clock chimed, making both of you jump a bit. It was 11am, plenty of the day left for you both to cuddle. It seemed that's what was going to happen as Faust rolled over with you still against his chest, pulling his phone out to watch videos. You rolled over so your back was against him, wanting to watch too. It will be a nice, relaxing day today.
