Chapter Text
Ace of Spades
Epilogue
Ace
“You look great, Len.” He scoffed and shook his head. It’s been about a year. The imagery of spades never left his mind. People were lost, and others have been found.
Lenni found himself. “I doubt that.” Lux only laughed and put their head on his shoulder. “No really, you look amazing.” That was extremely genuine.
He grabbed one of their hands and interlocked their fingers. Things were finally looking up. Not bad, not even normal, good. “You’re weirdly sweet right now.” The bartender shrugged, “I’ve got moods I guess.”
They’re sitting on a bench, watching the world around them. Suddenly, someone comes up next to them. “Hey Jenny.” She smiles before sitting next to them. Her arm was severely damaged after the impact when Xan died.
Luckily, nobody in the station died. However, she lost something. It was replaced with a robotic one instead. “You two doing alright?” They both nodded.
She was the reason he came to terms with everything he experienced as a child. Lenni was Len, and he was okay with that. He slightly fixed his scarf to show more of his neck. He had gills tattooed there. Just to feel more connected to his brother.
“How come I’ve never seen that?” He thought about it before saying, “Scarf must’ve been in the way.” There were many more ways to get to each city though. It was officially easier to get around. A lot of people still walked though, mimicking how he walked to each city.
However, there was one place that nobody could get too. Len started to call it the inbetween. Everything was just right in that specific area. He didn’t want it to be run by people so he hid it’s existence. He got lucky that they didn’t notice it during construction.
“Well, I’ll be off now, I’ve got exams in a week!” Jenny got up and left, leaving the two alone. “I’m glad you’ve started warming up to everything.” He nods before murmuring, “I try my best.” He puts an arm around their shoulder.
“I should probably tell you something.” At first, he’s a little concerned. Though, when he sees his eyes lit up like stars, he felt at ease. It was good news. “You’re going to have to trust me with this.”
Lenni briefly hesitates before nodding. “Good,” the bartender beams before grabbing ahold of him and blurring away. The next thing he knows, they’re in the inbetween. The colorful leaves of trees were falling. Many flowers sprouting from the ground were noticeable.
In front of him was a simple cabin. It wasn’t there the last time he was here. “What.. why is this here?” He pauses before glancing at Lux, who was clearly giddy. This was put here for him.
Not just him, it was for the both of them. “I thought you’d like a place to go away from the city.” That was absolutely true, but this was something different. He looked over at the bartender and grabbed their face. This made them pause, “Did you not.. like it?”
Instead of responding he picked them up and kissed their forehead. “I love it, if that’s the answer you were looking for.” They freeze up before laughing like a mad man. “You didn’t even give me a confession!” He lets out a sigh and starts to walk over to the cabin.
Lux grins at him, wrapping his arms around his neck. He opened the door, the place was filled with flowers. There were various photos of him, his brother, and the bartender. He couldn’t help but smile at the sight. He walked over to the couch and set them down on it.
“...This is going to be great.” Lux nodded before saying, “A lot better than the city, ace of spades.” He did say that, didn't he? Then again, he’d prefer something else. “Ace kind of sounds.. better.”
“Well, Ace it is.”
