Chapter Text
Hank walked into Charles’s office after he was called by the professor to talk about the family who would be touring the campus today. He knocked on the door before walking in and came up to Charles's desk.
“When are the Maximoff’s getting here?” Hank asked after greeting Charles.
“Any minute now,” Charles answered. “Let's go downstairs to wait for them.”
Hank was just downstairs. He didn't need to be called up there to be told that. He didn't say that, though. “Sure,” Hank nodded.
He walked to the door and held it open for Charles and they went down the hall to the elevator. When they got back downstairs, Hank heard a car start to pull up in the front.
“I think that's them,” Hank said. He still had enhanced senses even when he didn't look like the Beast.
“Wonderful. We're right on time,” Charles smiled.
Right as Hank opened the door, he saw a rush of silver and suddenly Peter — the boy he met a few weeks ago — was hugging him.
“Hi! I forgot your name, but I remember you,” he said quickly, letting go and bouncing on his feet. This was a completely different kid than the one Hank had met earlier. “I'm Penny, but you already knew that,” Peter laughed. He grabbed onto Hank's coat again. “Are you a doctor?” He asked, seeing the lab coat.
Penny?
Peter was wearing a white button up shirt and a black skirt with beat up tennis shoes. The tennis shoes might've been the only part of his outfit that he picked for himself if he was going by Penny in front of his family. Hank looked at the doorway where his mom and — who Hank assumed was — his sister were standing. His sister was wearing many layers of dark red and black clothes and a silver cross necklace. Her hair was short and she wore eccentric make-up.
“Penny! What are you doing?” His mother said, shocked. “I'm sorry about her, she gets excited easily,” she apologized.
Her.
“Mom! This is the guy I told you about. You know, when Dad went into the store and that guy was watching me?” Peter said as if she was stupid.
His mother was speechless. Hank worried that she may not have actually known about that. He saw Charles turn to look at him in question.
“...Did I not tell you about that?” Peter asked, after a moment of silence.
“Are you fucking stupid?” His sister asked. “How do you forget to tell Mom about something like that?”
“Language,” his mom warned her.
“Yeah, language,” he stuck his tongue out at her.
Through all of this, he didn't let go of Hank's side once.
Charles cleared his throat and turned back to face his mother. “Welcome,” he said warmly, even after that whole kerfuffle.
“Were you watching my daughter?” The mother asked accusingly, grabbing Peter's wrist and bringing him to her side.
“No! He clocked the guy in the face!” Peter said as if that sounded any better.
“You what?” Charles turned back to look at him again. Hank was about to explain when Charles waved it off, getting back to the initial matter. “Nevermind,” he said. “Hank and I will show you around the school. My sister was supposed to be joining us, but she is busy elsewhere.”
“I am Professor Charles Xavier,” he introduced himself properly. “And this,” Charles gestured to Hank, “is Doctor Hank McCoy.”
“So you are a doctor?” Peter asked.
“Well–” Hank was about to explain that he was a doctor, but he did more engineering than anything, but he was interrupted by Charles answering for him.
“Yes,” Charles said. He backed up and invited the family into the school. “It's very nice to meet you all,” he said. “You're Penny, so you must be Wanda,” Charles said to the twins.
Wanda nodded silently. Peter skipped to walk by Hank’s side rather than standing next to his sister and mom. He grabbed Hank's arm again as they walked. There were very few people in the halls, only a couple students here and there, so it was easy to get through for the tour. Charles went on his normal script for introducing a new family to the campus and Hank tuned it out, simply walking with them. His attention was pulled back by Peter gently tugging on his arm.
“Why would the Professor not want to talk to my dad?” Peter asked quietly.
The question caught Hank off guard, but he reasoned with himself that he should've expected it. “They used to work together and fell out over a disagreement,” Hank said, not elaborating further.
“What can you two do?” Charles asked the twins. He seemed oblivious to Peter's question just then.
“Wanda can move things around with her mind and control people,” their mother said, putting her hand on Wanda's shoulder. “And Penny is fast. Too fast,” she seemed exhausted by that sentence.
“Super speed,” Peter clarified.
Charles hummed. “Well, we don't have anyone here who has superspeed specifically, but I think my sister could help Penny out. As for Wanda, I truly wish I could show you my gift right now but I seem to be unable to reach into your mind,” Charles said. “There are too many distractions around me right now, I've never heard this many thoughts at once before.”
“That's probably because Penny's here,” Wanda pointed at Peter. “She thinks too much.”
Charles turned to face Peter. “All of those are yours?” He asked. He put two fingers to his temple and immediately grunted, holding his head in both hands. Hank rushed over to see if he was alright. Charles was panting heavily and rubbing his temple. “Extraordinary,” he muttered.
Hank looked back at Peter and he just shrugged. “We think she has ADHD, but no doctor will see her since she's a mutant,” his mom said.
“Yes, very well,” Charles said. “Hank, remind me later to construct a learning plan for both of them. Wanda can be taught by myself and Dr. Grey. Penny… we can see if Raven is available and maybe you could help as well.”
Hank heard the sound of teleporting behind him and saw Azazel standing there with a big smile on his face. Raven must've been up to something. “Hi baby,” she said, kissing Hank's cheek.
Hank grimaced, not liking that she didn't look like herself when she kissed him. “We talked about–” he started saying.
“Gotta go!” Raven interrupted him, looking around her before teleporting away.
She was immediately replaced by a blue cloud of smoke and Kurt on the ground on all fours. He looked around, seemingly looking for Raven, when he saw unfamiliar people looking at him. Kurt slowly stood up and waved sheepishly. “Hallo.”
“The red one,” Charles started to explain, “was my sister. She can shapeshift into anyone and use their physical mutants. This is her son, Kurt,” he introduced Kurt.
“That was Raven? I thought she was your sister,” Peter said to Hank.
“Why?” Hank asked, a little bit uncomfortable.
Peter shrugged. “You're both blue. Hey, are you Hank's kid, too?” he asked Kurt, standing in front of him now.
“They're not blue,” Wanda rolled her eyes.
“Uh, yeah they are,” Peter said. “Hank's big and blue and furry with big teeth and yellow eyes.” He turned back to Kurt. “I'm Penny,” he said with a smile.
Kurt returned the smile and his tail swayed behind him. He shook Peter's hand. He looked past Peter to inspect the other new people and saw the cross on Wanda's chest. Kurt immediately teleported in front of her and touched it.
“It is rare to find another religious student here,” Kurt said. He sounded a mix of happy and relieved.
“Oh, I'm not–”
“She's just goth.”
“Goth isn't a religion, stupid.”
“I'm not saying it is!” Wanda and Peter fought. Peter came up next to her and quickly added, “We're Jewish.”
“Ethnically,” Wanda added.
“Yeah, that. Do you want to join us? We're touring the school right now,” Peter invited him to come along.
“He seemed busy,” Wanda said. Peter shushed her.
She raised her hand and Peter shut up. Then, she quickly drew her finger in a small circle and Peter turned around, walking towards the wall and sitting down on the floor. Wanda laughed and dropped her hand and Peter immediately came back over to the group.
“You little–” Peter growled.
Wanda smiled. “Language!” she said sing-song.
“Witch,” Peter whispered after glancing at their mom.
Raven teleported back in and shifted to her natural form. “Ha! Told you she's blue!” Peter exclaimed, jabbing his finger at Wanda.
Raven walked up to Kurt and saw Peter. “Oh, hello P–”
“Penny.”
“...Penny.”
“Hi,” he waved with a smile.
“Raven,” Charles addressed her, clearly stressed and upset about how this tour is going so far, “I was hoping you could be the one to teach Penny how to use her power,” he said.
Raven turned into Peter and he had a huge smile on his face, clearly amused by there being another one of him. “What do you do?” Raven asked.
“I'm fast, that's basically it,” Peter said.
“Have you shown them the Danger Room?” Raven asked Charles, turning back into herself.
“Ooh, that sounds fun,” Peter said.
His mom didn't sound so sure hearing the name. “Is it safe?” She asked.
“Of course. I run the program and it's all holograms,” Hank assured her.
Peter skipped back over to Hank and grabbed onto his sleeve again. Hank was still a stranger to Peter, but he nearly insisted on holding onto him the entire time. It was odd, but Hank didn't mind all that much.
They finished up the tour and Charles and Hank worked to put together a learning plan for both of the twins and soon enough they were both enrolled in the school. Peter was put down under the right name, though all the teachers had to remember to call him Penny if they ever had to call his mom. Luckily, that was never an issue.
The twins started school the next week.
