Chapter Text

She went to the nearest nurse station and only two nurses were there because as always no one wanted to take the night shift, and after the obligatory "You look like shit" that every single health worker heard and said daily she asked them about the patient that her husband brought with him.

Surprisingly they knew nothing. No name, no age, no nothing at least officially. They were guessing their patient to be a male teenager or young adult at most, but other than that they pretty much knew nothing. And the doctors treating him were still discussing if it was a good idea to take the mask off the patient's face or if that would just make things worse for whoever Spiderman is.

Turns out the hero didn't even have a phone with him, the only thing they could give her was a weird kind of watch, which was broken and kept beeping every few seconds and was consequently useless for them. The display was completely blacked out so they couldn't really turn it off but they were sure it had to be important to figure out who he was but for now it was a useless lead.

Rio had at first just tried to make it work but after nothing she did worked she just tried pressing the buttons on the sides of the watch but nothing happened until she pressed both at the same time, the watch stopped beeping. But nothing else happened so she thought nothing of it and tried to be helpful until any new information popped up.

Until some people looking for their patient showed up, a man wearing casual clothes and whose face was awfully familiar followed by a young woman in some sort of old lounge dress with a band´s logo that Rio didn't recognize. She told him where to find the doctors that were tending to Spiderman and that she would go get the policeman who brought him in.

She left for the cafeteria and brought her husband back to the ER where Spider Man's family had been told to wait for news on him but when the woman, who had introduced herself as Gwen, saw her husband she started crying. It was pretty subtle and she seemed more regretful or shocked than anything but still it stuck to her as slightly weird.

In any case if anything important came out of whatever conversation Jeff and them had she was sure that the hospital's gossip mill would be her best source of information but for now she still had a job to do.

—----------------------
No one at HQ had been expecting the alarm to actually mean something since Miles was new in using their tech and it wasn't unheard of newbies accidentally activating their safety beacons but Gwen and Peter B decided to just check on him in case anything had actually happened and well it seems that at least in Miles´s dimension news travel exceedingly fast for their liking.

Thankfully they weren't wearing their suits so they could head immediately to the hospital where Miles was supposed to be but on the other hand they had to hide B´s face since his dimensional counterpart was already dead but it wouldn't matter much if they didn't make sure their friend was still alive.

Peter had tried to convince Miles in several occasions to just tell his parents, in case anything happened they could at least know but stubbornly the young teen hadn't felt ready for that kind of secret getting out and while it was understandable Peter could also relate to what MIles´s parent would feel because he was a parent now.

Conversely Gwen had been convinced that keeping them in the dark was a good idea or at least her personal experience said so but now she wasn't so sure, how were they supposed to prevent a cop and nurse, who were both highly involved in the case, from knowing the truth about their own son? She knew that Jeff didn't like Spiderman much but still she had seen that man's personality and while he kept a tough exterior he was just as kind as Miles and his mother, she had been so nice the first time they had met. The only logical conclusion at the moment was that nothing about this was fair.

Other than them only Miguel knew. At first just to keep things quiet since it could have been a mistake but now that they had informed him about the true nature of the situation there was a chance that more spider-people would show up. She was sure Miles would appreciate it but all the same that could create more questions for the local authorities than need be, in any case waiting was the only way to find out.

The hospital was different, her universe was more often than not a colorful blend of feelings. She had been shocked the first time she had been in another dimension but with time the differences seemed to blend in with every universe´s theme but Miles´s had always been an exception of sorts. Everything was way more colorful than need be while still keeping a somewhat somber color palette, it was playful and serious all at the same time. The hospital, on the other hand, was just white and sterile as if waiting for something bad to happen but only to be there when it inevitably happened.

Getting to the hospital had not been hard but being told to wait and having to just sit there without knowing anything had been the worst sensation on earth. Half an hour had passed before a cop, whom both of them recognized as MIles´s father, came to talk about the accident. He described what had happened and the current plan to treat the injuries the hero had sustained without revealing his identity but encouraged them to make a solid choice between his health and his identity. After that he left.

Talking to Miguel about the best course of action would have been the most sensible solution but Peter beat her to it. He went to talk to Miles´s father and she wasn't sure what would be worse so she just let him and decided to wait for him right where she was. This was going to be a long night.
