Chapter Text
“It was meant for you”
The words washed over Yor but didn’t really sink in as she worked to stop the bleeding.
“W-what are you talking about!? Help me stop the blee… Ms. Fiona!” Yors heart skipped a beat when she finally realized who was standing over them.
“Ms. Fiona! Please help Loid! You work at the hospital do you not? Please save my husband!”
Hearing the word ‘husband’ snapped Fiona from her stupor, she looked down at Yor then at Twilight who was growing more pale by the minute. Looking around she locates the host of the restaurant trying to keep the frantic patrons calm, pins him with her most serious glare, and orders him to find clean towels before turning back to Yor.
“Keep him upright and keep him awake. When they come back with the towels I need you to use them to apply pressure to the wound, Do you understand me?”
Yor nods quickly as she sits Loid into more of sitting position, a pained grunt being all he can muster. Her mind is racing with possibilities but they all arrive at the same destination.
She softly kisses the top of Loids head in apology “I know this is going to hurt but If I do nothing I’m going to lose you…”
With a quick heave she gathers Loid in her strong arms, careful to keep his chest situated higher than his legs, and takes off running towards Berlint General Hospital.
As she sprints down the sidewalk, thankful that her and Loid just happened to choose to have dinner so close to the hospital, her emotions began to peel away one by one. Panic, confusion, and worry whittle away leaving just determination. She tells herself over and over in silent mantra ‘I will not lose him’
With the hospital a few strides away now she begins to square her shoulders and charge the front door but stops when she feels him stir. She doesn’t want to injure him more so she gingerly bumps the door open before shouting rather loudly
“PLEASE HELP HIM!”
As if they had been anticipating her arrival, a hospital bed was wheeled right out to her. Not recognizing anyone she reluctantly placed Loid on the bed and moves to follow the team now fighting to keep him alive. She manages to follow them down a few hallways but is stopped by a nurse who impatiently informs her that he needs immediate surgery.
The panic is back and in a flash she is on the poor nurse, red eyes casting a nearly demonic glow…
To the nurses credit she flinches from the intensity but she stands her ground, which further irritates Yor who is dangerously close to snapping the woman in half. She is stopped in her tracks as a cool breeze tickles the back of her neck and chilling voice pulls her back to the situation at hand
“Please, try to remain calm Mrs Forger. I’m sure there’s a waiting room where we can sit.”
Spinning on her heel, she is met with the cold stare of Fiona whom she just remembered was at the same restaurant as them. With a defeated sigh she mutters her apology to the nurse and pleads with her to save her husband before turning away and letting Fiona guide her to a room down the hall.
As the minutes slowly stretch into hours, Yors thoughts become troubled once more. She replays the days events in her mind, pondering how the day started so well.

Rolling over she snuggles deeper into the blanket but something’s missing.
She pats the empty spot next to her and realizes Loid is no longer laying next to her, what’s more, his spot has grown cold.
‘He must’ve been asked to report to work early’ she thinks as she sits up and lets out a jaw cracking yawn. She turns to look at his empty spot somberly. She had really been wanting to at least have breakfast with him because they hadn’t had much alone time lately.
With a soft sigh she gets up from bed and heads to the kitchen to get a pot of tea started. As she opens the bedroom door she is greeted with the delicious scent of breakfast in full swing. Smells of cooking eggs and sausage drift to her nose making her mouth water. She eagerly moves down the short hallway already knowing the only person who’s cooking smells that good, but excited nonetheless to see him. She enters the kitchen and wraps him in a hug from behind.
“Good morning Yor-san” he greets in a warm tone as he places the cooking utensils down and turns to return her embrace. “Did you sleep well?”
“I slept very well, though I wasn’t a fan of waking up to an empty bed” she teased him lightly before pressing a soft kiss to nose earning her a sheepish grin and a blush
“Ahh… let me make it up to you then, go set the table, breakfast is ready” he turns back to the task at hand before adding “The Blackbells came by and picked up Anya for a sleep over so it’s just you and me”
Yor busies herself grabbing plates, mugs, and silverware. “Oh? Well that’s nice of them, I hope the girls have a nice time”
Breakfast between the two passes with comfortable conversation and the occasional flirtatious comment. Yor begins to clean the table and take the dishes to the kitchen with Loid in tail, as she settles the dishes in the sink she find herself in a warm embrace from behind.
“Hey, I’ve taken the day off, would you want to spend the day with me?”
She takes a second to enjoy the display of affection, closing her eyes, she breathes in his scent before responding cheekily “Is this your idea of making up for alone?”
“It is, besides, if the bed being empty bothers you that much, I’d be more than happy to fill it right now”
His husky voice combined with delicious memories of what happened last time they had the house to themselves for a night is enough set her skin alight and melt her to her core. Desire building as she turns to him and puts on her best sultry voice “Prove it”
No further coaxing is needed as he swiftly picks her up, tosses her over his shoulder and set a brisk walk to the bedroom, Yor giggling all the way.

Despite the fond memory, more of the days events play through her mind. From the mid day movie they caught, to the walk in the park, then to restaurant. The day had been perfect up until that shot. Suddenly her demeanor darkened. She was remembering how he had fallen, the look of shock and his face as the pain set in, his eyes dulling as he was losing consciousness. Then…
“Ms. Frost was it?”
The woman who sat silently for over an hour turns to her “Yes, is there something I can do for you?”
Yor doesn’t make eye contact right away but asks “What was it you said to me at the restaurant?”
Knowing what she means Fiona feigns ignorance. “To apply pressure to the wound and…” her voice dies in her throat as Yor pins her with baleful expression.
“Now isn’t a very good time to play dumb” standing from her seat, Yor starts moving slowly towards Fiona. “A woman like you sees herself as intelligent and strong no doubt”
“Just what are you playing at Yor Forger?” Fiona nearly spits her name like venom at the end, figuring the game is up.
“Just figuring you’d rather not have your life ended with you looking like the fool you are”
“Are you threatening me? Yor Forger?”
Yor is about to pounce on her when a woman with blond hair and striking blue eyes steps into the room.
“Good evening ladies, I hope I’m not interrupting anything?”
Yor halts her advance to take in the newcomers appearance, something about her looks familiar. Her demeanor is gentle but unmistakably imposing.
“Mrs Forger let me start by offering my sincerest apologies for what happened. My name is Sylvia Sherwood, I am a hospital liaison of sorts. I bring good news, Loid is out of the woods for now, he lost a lot of blood and will be weak for a while but he is stable”
The news nearly takes Yors legs from under her as the stress and adrenaline that had been keeping her moving finally released its hold on her.
“He has yet to regain consciousness but you may see him now if you like?”
Yor nods softly as Sylvia directs her to follow a nurse to where Loid is resting. She watches as she moves down the hallway and out of earshot before turning to Fiona
“Handler, what may I ask is-“ she doesn’t get to finish her sentence as her head is jerked violently to side from a very well placed backhanded slap.
Placing her hand on her reddened cheek she turns back with eyes full of disbelief only to be met with harsh, teeth rattling punch to the face that knocks her completely to the floor. She slowly picks her self up, wiping the blood from her lip. She gathers her senses before looking up at her handler whose eyes are cold and angry.
“You will report to WISE headquarters, forfeit all of your weapons, and submit before a disciplinary committee” Sylvia takes a steadying breath before continuing “You are a disgrace Nightfall. Not only have you been blinded by this playground crush you have but you were immature enough to act on it in the WORST possible way and it almost cost me 2 really good agents.”
With her head bowed, Fiona just sighs in defeat as the Handler continues her verbal assault
“You better hope Twilight comes out of this relatively unscathed, or losing your position will be the least of your worries”
With that said Fiona takes her leave.
The walk back to her apartment feels oddly long and Fiona can’t help but feel like there’s hundreds of eyes on her all the way home. She reasons that WISE probably has her under surveillance to make sure she doesn’t run. Turning the key to her apartment she steps in and closes the door, as she flicks on the light she’s not expecting to be met with a pair of devilish red eyes.
Disbelief etches itself into her usually expressionless mask. Yor is standing in her apartment but something feels completely different. Gone is the ditzy carefree expression she’s used to and her normally soft appearance now looks menacing and downright violent. She’s draped in a black dress, black thigh high boots, and a headpiece that looks like a deadly crown.
Fiona barely has time to react before Yor pounces on her, Pinning her painfully against a wall with one arm. She struggles in her grasp only stopping once Yor speaks.
“You said that bullet was meant for me.” Yor takes out one of her stilettos and drives it into Fiona in the same exact spot where her bullet hit Loid. “This stiletto was meant for you...” She takes another stiletto and jams it into Fiona’s neck before finally releasing her grip on her and letting her fall in a heap at her feet.
