Chapter Text

POV Vi

I woke up after a well-deserved rest. It's not easy dealing with so many Enforcers all over Zaun. Since the accident on the bridge, Piltover increased the number of patrols. We believe the order came directly from Councilor Kiramman, Caitlyn's mother... speaking of her, I hope she's okay. One of Ji-Powder's bombs hit her. The last thing I saw was Ekko trying to wake her up, but after that she was taken away...

Vi entered Ekko's room and found him going through some papers.

"Working, boss?" she said, settling down next to him.

"Yes, I'm trying to find a way to reduce the number of guards in Zaun," Ekko answered as he marked the areas with the highest Enforcer activity on his map.

"Maybe if we had brought the magic stone, none of this would have happened," Vi commented in a reproachful tone.

—Or maybe if Jinx hadn't exploited a councilor's daughter, this wouldn't be happening —Ekko said with obvious annoyance.

—Hey! First, her name is Powder. Second, it's not her fault that the councilors are so ruthless with us. And third... yeah, she shouldn't have dropped the bomb near Caitlyn —he admitted, lowering his gaze in shame.

Ekko sighed and tried to calm down.

—Look, Vi... I'm just really stressed. I want to take out all these Enforcers who are looking for us. I know they're only coming for the stone, and since they saw us with it, it's obvious that we're the target —he said, rubbing his face in frustration.

Before Vi could answer, Ekko walked over to the window of his room and looked at the small community he had built. It was beautiful how everyone lived peacefully, without fear of being chased by Enforcers or gangs. He didn't want everything they had fought for to fade away because of a mistake on Jinx's part...

Speaking of her, Ekko remembered what she was like in her Powder days: sweet, witty, and innocent. But now that person had been twisted by Silco, and all that was left was one more bully.

Vi noticed how tense he was and placed a hand on his shoulder.

"I know you've fought hard to build this place, and I know you'd die for it... but please, we can't let this tear us apart. I'm sorry for scolding you. I don't know how to process everything that's going on," Vi said, her gaze lost in the community's common space.

For a moment, she imagined what her life would have been like if Zaun had always been like this.

"I hope the Enforcers give up looking for us..."

"Me too..." Ekko whispered.
