Evangeline's POV
I look at myself in the full-length mirror and stare in amazement at the dress Lala made for me. It was the most beautiful pink corset knee length dress ever. It was mid day and the light was shining through my window bathing me in rays of light. Jacks was in the other room putting on his suit that Lala had made for him. I couldn't wait to see his suit, surely Lala had out done her self. I'm starting to pin my hair up into a braid crown when I hear a knock at my bedroom door. I am about to ask who it is but someone opens the door anyway.
"Fates Jacks you could have waited!"
"I would have preferred not to" he says dryly as he walks up to me
"I could have been undressed!"
"Well I wouldn't mind that and you know I wouldn't little fox" he smirks. I scoff and turn around.
"Why don't you have your suit on?" I asked as I noticed that he only has his casual pants on and a white button-up that was half opened.
"Well I just wasn't sure we were still going" he admitted
"Of course we're still going I'm almost ready go get dressed!"
"Are you sure about this little fox? These public... Outings can be dangerous"
"Well of course it can be dangerous but I've got you" I say as I turn around and give him a kiss on the cheek. he grunted, "fine I'll get dressed" he says with a hint of reluctance.I finished putting on my shoes and retouching my makeup then decide I'm ready. I open my door and walk across the hall to Jack's room. I knock but don't wait for an answer like he did. As I open the door I see him standing in front of his mirror messing up his hair so it would look like his usual style. He turns around and notices me.
"Hello little fox" he says slyly as he side eyes me from his mirror "almost done."
"Okay" I say simply and I sit on the bed behind him.
He was gorgeous absolutely gorgeous. his hair was done beautifully and Lala had made that suit perfectly.
"Glad you think so" he said turning away from his mirror and facing me. I see myself flush a deep pink in the mirror. I hadn't realized I was projecting my thoughts
"Do you even try and keep your thoughts private?" Jacks asks
"Not really" I admit
"Well we need to change that because you need a strong mind and clearly you don't guard your thoughts whatsoever," he says slyly as he looks me up and down " tomorrow I will teach you how to guard your thoughts" he announces. He doesn't give me a chance to answer before he has hooked his arm around mine and is leading me out of his room.
Jacks' POV
As the carriage starts moving towards Lala's party I tense. I don't quite know why but I don't want my little fox going in there. She was still someone known by lots of people. And not always good people. I look to my side and see her looking out the window with her head tilted to one side I grab her hand. She grabes it back and turns around.
"Are you ok? You seem more tense than usual?" She said in her worried little voice
"I'm fine little fox, just thinking" I answer, trying not to worry her.
"About what?" She asks tilting her head towards me
"About you" I say simply
"Hm, and why is that?" She asks curiously
"Because I'm not sure this is safe for you" I say to her
"Well first I thought you were going to say something romantic like 'because I love you so much'" she teases. I open mouth to say something but her finger comes up to my lips and a 'sh' motion. "And second, I'll be fine jacks!" She sighs exasperated. I disagree but let her go on. "I'm not a child. I have survived many things, most of which I probably shouldn't have. So don't worry about it!" She ends with a smile.
"I know you can take care of your self but you never know what creeps are lurching out there"
"Well just to be safe and to put your worries at ease,"
"I'm not worri-" I start, about to protest but she cuts me off
"I brought this!" She pulled out a sharp blade from a pocket I hadn't noticed had been in her dress.
"See? If anything happens I have this!" I'm about to explain that sometimes that's not enough but then the carriage stops. I look out the window and stare at a huge castle.
"What's the party for again?" I ask as I open the door. She groans but smiled any way
"I already told you!" She giggles "Lala's getting engaged!
"Again?"
"Yes again!" She says as if I offended her. She whacks me with our rolled-up invitation on the arm and walks away toward the castle.
As we walk in I feel the starts of multiple people. I'm used to it but lately I haven't been loving the attention my little fox is getting. We walk through the Crowde of people untill we see Lala. She has her arm hooked around a man. Probably her next failed husband. Evangeline walked up to her and taps her on the shoulder. The two start giggling and saying nonsense. I zone out and look around the castle. It was quite big and I doubt the giant ballroom we are in now is the biggest part of this place. What sort of rich dumb ass did Lala fall in love with this time? I come back to my senses as I here Evangeline call my name
"Jacks?"
"Yea?" I responded, blinking back into reality
"Can you go grab me a drink? I'm going to go look around!"
"That's not a good idea little fox," she frowns "if you get into trouble I won't be there"
I'll tell you if anything happens, I promise I hear her gentle voice slip into my head
"Fine" I reluctantly agree
"Ok! See you in a bit!" She goes up in her toes and gives me a kiss. I walk away toward the drinks. The warmth of her lips still in my face. I stand in line for a while and finally order her drink. She hasn't told me what she wanted she I just ordered her favorite
"One weak pink martini and a whiskey sour,"I tell the bartender.
I turn around and survey the room while the drinks get made. I spot Evangeline and see she is talking with someone else. Someone blocking my view of who she's talking to. The drinks are handed to me and I take them. I start walking away realizing I didn't pay. I could hear the bartenders muffled complaints, but I keep walking. I see who she is talking to.
I wait to see if she will stab the filthy vampire boy with her knife. But her hands don't move to her side, they move to her head. Where she tucks a stray strand of hair behind her ear and laughs. That's it, I think, as I stalk up to them. I put the drinks that where once in my hands in a random platter that was carrying around other drink.
"So do you want to dance?" I hear Luc ask
"Um, sure" My little fox answers. His hand reaches out to her waist. I don't let him touch her. I reach her and grab her waist before he can.
"Sorry vampire but she's taken" I say unapologetically. I hook my arm around Evangeline and pull her away.
"Jacks!" She scolds
"We're leaving little fox" I keep leading her to the exit but then we stop. Her heals had dig into the ground. I let go of her arm and she puts her hand on her hips.
"What was that all about?" She asks as she looks me straight in the eyes
"He's dangerous little fox and you know it" I says thinking back to the time he attacked us at Causes place.
"He different now jacks and we where just catching up it's not big deal!"
"They all say they'er different, Evangeline, and the rarely mean it. Also, since when does 'catching up' mean dancing?" I question.
Something changes in her face and I see and grin start to spread across her face. I raise my eye brow at her wondering what's going on
"Oh my Fates Jacks! Are you jealous?" She giggled. I feel my face heat up.
"No I am protecting you Evangeline."
"Oh no your not! You do jealous right now aren't you!" She gets out through laughs. She calms down a bit and says "he will never be anything to me jacks. Trust me when I say this, I only want you." I look her in the eyes and see the sincerity in her eyes
"That's good because I only want you." I leans down and kiss her. I get lost in her lips and forget that we are in public for a minute. I come back to my senses and lead her outside to the garden. It was nice and big and nobody was out here. There were rows and rows of perfectly trimmed flower everywhere As we step out I turn to her and say,
"I wasn't jealous by the way." I knew it was a giant lie but I didn't want her to know that. She laughed and says
"Sure you weren't" she pats my chest with one hand and walked off
"I wasn't!" I call after her
"Oh ok! I'll just walk back in there and dance with everyone that asks then." She responds as she turns around and starts walking back to the castle. I grab her shoulder gently and pull her back a bit. I fix her with a glare and turn her back around towards the carriage
"You will do no such this little fox."
"I knew it!" She calls out and flick's my arm. "Hey wait I have to say bye to Lala!"
"Write her a letter when we get home, you aren't going back in there." I side eye her
"I was only joking about dancing with everyone you know!" She tells me
"To late." I tell her as I bring her over to the carriage.
"Fine," she huffs as she sits down "I wanted to go home anyway!" She lies
"We will stay the rest of the time next party little fox but I think we are done with this one." I tell her as I sit next to her. She nods and rests her head in my shoulder. The ride starts and we fall into a blissful silence.
