Remind me not to mix my medication with alcohol again… I can’t even remember what we did.

I reminded you multiple times, but you insisted. This Rush guy made quite an impression. Did you take the aspirin I left for you?

I did, thanks. Sorry I dropped that on you. Maybe I overreacted.

Don’t worry, that’s what friends are for. Don’t let it spoil your weekend.

Subject: Friendly advice

Dear Nick,

I’ve been thinking about what you told me and I can only come to one conclusion, which you’re not going to like: You messed up. You didn’t even give this man a chance to prove you wrong about him.

I know you have your issues, but doesn’t everyone deserve the benefit of the doubt? From what I heard this Young has a genuine interest in your project.

I don’t agree with Daniel’s way of punishing you, but you have to behave professionally when Rafiel is around. The department needs to pass this inspection.

I’m here if you need help preparing or a shoulder to cry on.

Love,

Mandy

He only takes an interest because of the possibilities of turning my project into a weapon!

Don’t worry about Rafiel, I know how to handle him.

Dear Nick,

Both these statements worry me. Did you hit your head recently? You’re not usually this simpleminded or naive.

Love,

Mandy

Dear Nick,

  1. Have you even asked Young about the subject of his research paper? I sincerely doubt that “manufacturing weapons in innovative and non-traditional ways” will get past the ethics committee.
  2. As I remember it, last year you got into a shouting match with Rafiel because he couldn’t see the solution to a two-dimensional spacetime integral quick enough. He’s a professor in ethics! What did you expect?
  3. I really shouldn’t have to explain this to you.

Love,

Mandy

I want to see that project. I don’t want to work anywhere near that asshole.

You don’t have to decide right this moment.

By which you mean I should talk to the guy to keep my options open. You always were the smart one.

Don’t you forget it.

Dear Dr. Jackson,

I would still like to discuss the possibility of a collaboration. However, on Monday morning I have other obligations. Would it be possible to meet on Tuesday morning instead?

Best,

Everett Young
