Chapter Text
One day, the waters of a river in the rainforest gained the power to reveal alternate versions of the one who looked into it.
To the nightwings who first saw the power of the river, its power was indistinguishable from their perceptions of future sight. Thus, they renamed the river “Possibilities” and called its power “To reveal possible futures of those who looked into it”.
When he was 5, Peacemaker looked into this river for the first time wanting “to see the joy my future brings” as he told his mother. Up until this point Peacemaker was riding a path But bliss was no longer his future the moment he decided to look into the river.
In the blurry waters of the river, Peacemaker was there as a cloaked farmer. The only part visible being the head.
Peacemaker’s once gleeful expression turned into confusion at the sight of this farmer
Thats… me?
Then, the farmer covered his face with the cloak and looked upon the brown field of wheat. Then, he began to harvest with a scythe.
Peacemaker’s confusion then turned into shock.
… a weapon? Used for farming? And it’s… slashing down brown grass?
Peacemaker then stopped to process the bewildering sight for a moment. After all, this was not the future he was promised.
Is this… all I do for my future?
Then, he shook his head in doubt.
No… there must be more to this… Surely there must be more to this
And, the farmer continued to harvest the field. Slash by slash, by slash, by slash
Peacemaker continued to stare into the blurry waters hoping that something would change. Holding on to hope with one mantra.
There must be more to this
It was a large harvest for this rotation and he was a perfect farmer. So, he kept slashing and slashing for the next hour, without end, in perfect form.
By the end of the hour the repetitive monotony finally got to him. His thoughts turning into a heartbroken cry
This was… supposed to be my wonderland! There was supposed to be so many plants! Where’s Mother Dearest? Where’s Moon? Are they gone? Is this what they wanted? Is this my future? WHY!? Why why, WHY!? THIS IS MY FUTURE!?
And… for the first time in his life. Peacemaker felt despair.
“AAAAAARRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGG”
Peacemaker roared out to the forest uncontrollably sobbing, instinctually running back to home, thoughts spiralling in his head.
NO NO NO MY FUTURE NO NO NO NO MOTHER NO THIS CAN’T BE IT nO No NO MOON IT CAN’T IT CAN'T I CAN’T NO nonoNoNOnO…
Peacemaker returned to home, to mother dearest, to consolation.
But, even after mother consoled him, told him there was more to his future
His faith in the future began to crack, Awareness of anomalies began to form and taste of his passions began to sour
From that day onwards his future was not that of blissful oblivion.
But, that doesn’t mean a bad future is ahead of him.
