Chapter Text

Waking up in her queen sized bed as the sun peered through her curtains, Samantha Eve Wilkins let out a yawn that may or may not have been a bit over dramatic.

Moving her right hand to her eyes, wiping the crust off of them, her mind wandered back to the events in of yesterday. As a heroine in a world full of villains, every day was a stressful day in one way or another , but yesterday was a particularly long one because of a certain green haired hero and an alien invasion he quelled on his own.

After saving said hero from himself, both figuratively and literally, Eve felt she had more than earned her early exit from the cleanup effort after the dust had settled.

Flying home as fast as she could, the girl snuck into her room through her window and darted for the shower, more than ready to clean the sweat off of her body.

Once clean and rejuvenated, the girl made her way to her bed and watched some various programs on her television, easing into the night and eventually falling asleep.

So now, after some much deserved R & R, the heroine was ready to conquer the next threat looming.

Monday.

Groaning as she got up, stretching her back and rolling her shoulders as her bones popped beneath her skin, Eve licked her dry lips and walking to the bathroom.

"I hope this week goes by quick." Eve muttered aloud and grabbed her toothpaste, then squeezed some out onto the toothbrush before brushing.

Looking at her tired form in the mirror, Eve grimaced a bit at her bed-head before spitting out the toothpaste and washing out her mouth, eagerly grabbing the comb next to the sink and getting to work.

"Let's get this over with."

As Eve began to meticulously comb through her hair, wincing every now and again as she hit a knot, she took her time despite her second alarm going off. If she were being completely honest with herself, the lack of agency she had for being early had been lost on her since her freshman year.

Her attendance at school was perfect, so even if she was a few minutes late, she'd be fine.

On the other hand though...

"I hope this is the right place."

Another teen was already on his way to school, nearly there in fact. As he began to descend from the sky, his green hair fluttering in the wind, Izuku Midoriya smiled to himself.

While very excited for his first day, the teen knew he also had to keep his identity a secret. So as to not draw any unnecessary attention, Izuku found an alleyway about a block away from the school and flew towards it.

Releasing a bit of the air out of his chest, feeling his body descend into the alleyway, Izuku eventually landed gently on the cement as his new red sneakers squeaked slightly from the force.

Running a hand through his hair, trying to fix what the wind had blown around, Izuku began to walk forward. Continuing forward, the dark alleyway began to open up to the world outside of its walls, soon enough leading to a busy sidewalk.

"So this is it, huh."

With that same smile on his face, Izuku's eyes settled on what would become his new academic home in this world from this day forward.

Reginald Vel Johnson High.

Thanks to the hard work of Cecil in these last few weeks, the Japanese native had found himself in the perfect opportunity for someone in his position.

Not only was Izuku now an official citizen of the United States of America, but he would also be attending one of the nicer high schools in his now native state of Illinois.

Adjusting his backpack straps to be bit tighter on his shoulders, the flight loosening them a bit, Izuku made his way towards the school with a pep in his step, intent to arrive early to his first day of classes.

"It's a nice school." He mumbled to himself, his palm covering his mouth as he walked closer, idly making note of the different architecture compared to U.A. high.

Walking to the crosswalk adjacent to the academy, Izuku patiently waited as few dozen cars and busses full of students drove past him and into the school's parking lot. While a small part of him wanted to ride the bus to fit in, wanting to stand out as little as possible, the reality was that he didn't have to do so.

The reality was that Float was simply more efficient, and although he couldn't see it, Izuku was sure Nana had a smug expression on her face as he thought that.

"Alright, so let's run through this one more time." Izuku muttered to himself once more as he stood with his hands in his hoody pocket.

"I'm going to be a senior, although technically I should be a junior based off my age."

Looking up, Izuku saw the crosswalk sign light up and he began making his way across, finding himself walking amongst a crowd of twenty or so other students.

"It's formatted like UA in terms of classes, but without the heroics."

Sighing as that left his lips, Izuku walked a bit more and eventually found himself in front of the school, the American flag flying proudly in the wind on a pole beside the building.

Taking a deep breath as dozens of other students made their way past him, Izuku nodded to himself and began to make his way up the stairs and into the school, memories of his first day at UA flooding his mind as he entered those doors.

Thankfully this time, he didn't fall.

"Here we go."

_

The first few classes came and went quick, those being history, physical education, and math. While math and physical education seemed to be what he expected, Izuku found himself quite surprised by the class on American history.

Back in Midnight's classes at UA, Izuku had heard stories about the history of the USA, but hearing about it from a native was a whole other story.

Both literally and metaphorically.

Today's lecture, being about the start of the revolutionary war, was one Izuku found very interesting. While he was sure the majority of the class had heard about this dozens of times throughout their academic journeys, this was a first for Izuku.

Japan, for its entire history, had always been home to mainly Japanese people with Japanese blood within them. Thinking about it more, Izuku also knew that the wars that his native country had fought in prior to the nineteen hundreds were all domestic disputes as well, so the culture of Japan was mainly Japanese.

While America on the other hand, well known as a 'cultural melting pot', was not at all the same. People from all over the world called the United States home, even All Might when he first started out. Up until this point, Izuku hadn't really thought about it, but now after hearing the origin of the country he now lived in, his eyes were opened.

While those who lived in this county, like himself for example, were considered 'American', rarely did that mean your family tree originated from the land that would become the USA.

Rather, Americans were typically made up of blood from other countries, such as African and European nations among others. With this in mind, the majority of family trees started when brave individuals set out and decided to migrate to the USA, many of whom fought for the countries freedom back during the revolutionary war against Great Britain.

The more Izuku heard the more he found himself engrossed in the countries lore. It was just so interesting to the teen, so much so that Izuku nearly forgot that he saw someone familiar seated a few rows behind him.

As the bell rang and the teacher dismissed the class, Izuku grabbed his backpack off the ground and stood up, ready to eat his lunch. But as he began to walk towards the door, a hand on his shoulder stopped him.

Turning around to see who it was, Izuku was greeted to the sight of Mark with his own backpack slung over one shoulder, the older teen smiling to his green haired friend.

"Yo."

_

As the two talked and made their way to the cafeteria, Izuku followed Mark into the line and Mark gave Izuku his recommendations for food, the younger teen aptly listening and making mental notes.

After grabbing his lunch which consisted of chicken cutlets and mashed potatoes, plus a 'Rice Krispie treat' which Mark heavily recommend for desert, Izuku sat down and began to eat, Mark sitting across from him and doing the same.

As Izuku finished his first bite of the chicken, his mouth greedily chewing down the food, he couldn't help but compare it to Lunch Rush's food.

After swallowing the bite, Izuku sighed as he looked to Mark. As good as this food was, it just didn't hold a candle to his food back home.

On the other hand though...

"So what'd you think of the chicken?" Mark asked curiously, twirling his fork in his hand. While he wasn't any sort of cook, it tasted a bit burnt today.

"I-ish okay."

Swallowing and then taking another bite, Mark watched as Izuku slightly grimaced at the taste, obviously finding the charred ends of the chicken hard to stomach.

Swallowing once more, Izuku took a sip of his milk and then eyed the desert, deciding now was as good a time as any to eat it.

"So, what'd you think of-" Mark began, but trailed off when he saw Izuku's eyes widen and then quickly devour the desert in his mouth, his eyes almost watering.

"Dish ish sho goad!"

Laughing a bit at Izuku's antics, Mark smiled and grabbed his own, eating it in one bite.

"Yeah I agree dude, Rice Krispie treats rule."

_

After waving goodbye to Mark and making his way to his second to last class of the day, that being English, Izuku sat down and pulled out his notebook with a pen clipped to its first page.

Despite finding himself more confident and comfortable with the language with each passing day, Izuku still felt a bit nervous for what this class would entail.

English was such a hard language to learn, all the grammar rules he had to learn and then constantly breaking those rules, it just didn't make sense sometimes.

Shaking his head, the teen tried to calm himself and his nerves, although he didn't realize until too late that he was doing a very poor job at that, well that and an object poking his back.

"Hey, you alright?"

Gasping a bit in surprise, Iuzku turned around while he took a breath to calm himself. Now with his body turned around in his desk, the green haired teen met eyes with a blonde haired girl who held out a pencil with its eraser pointed towards him.

Looking down at it, then up at her, Izuku nodded his head to her inquiry.

"Yeah, I'm all good." He replied curtly without skipping a beat, then watched as the girl's right eyebrow rose.

"Then why are you tapping your foot like that?"

Caught a bit off guard by the accusation, Izuku looked down below his seat and saw that he was in fact tapping his foot.

Blushing a bit at being noticed, he rubbed the back of his head.

"I-I guess I am a bit nervous," Izuku began, laughing a bit awkwardly for a moment before continuing, "...It's my first day here and I'm not a native English speaker." He admitted honestly, then noticed the girls expression soften a bit.

"Don't worry about it, I'm sure you'll be fine." She reassured him, then twirled a lock of her hair with her left hand. As she did so, a somewhat guilty look spread across her features, something that caught Izuku a bit off guard once more.

"Don't take this the wrong way, but I kinda figured." The blonde haired girl began, then paused as she tried to find her words, "The wild hair color, the way your face is structured, your accent..." She continued on, then trailed off for a moment before blushing, realizing she was running her mouth a bit, "S-sorry, didn't mean to-" she sputtered out, but Izuku's laugh quelled her worry.

"Honestly it's fine, really." He said with a smile, not at all taking offense to the comment as he turned forward.

As the blonde haired girl behind him muttered out another apology, still very much embarrassed, Izuku fell into thought. It really didn't bother him too much, but try as he might, Izuku couldn't help but dwell a bit on the comment about his hair.

"...it's not wild, is it?" He muttered softly while feeling a bit self conscious, almost not sure of himself for a moment. With a bit of hesitation, the young hero looked around at the rest of the class and saw nothing but blondes and brunettes.

Moving a hand over his mouth, Izuku let out a small sigh. He didn't want to admit it, but he knew she was right, aside from the occasional red head, he really did stick out like a sore thumb.

While he doubted it would happen, a small part of him worried about being picked on for the hair, not at all wanting to go through what he had in the past. It was just his first day and he-

"I think it looks cool."

His eyes going wide as his train of thoughts derailed, Izuku turned back around and saw the blonde haired girl smiling to him with a smile gracing her lips, her right pointer finger pointed at his hair.

It seemed as though she had heard his muttering.

Not too long after hearing her words, Izuku's face broke out in a blush and he looked back forward away from the girl, putting his head down on the desk with his hands covering his face.

He was never one to be good at taking compliments, led alone fro , women.

"T-thank you." He muttered out, again being heard judging by the giggle.

"No problem, I'm Amber by the way, it's nice to meet you...?"

Looking up from his desk, although with a bit of a blush still on his face, Izuku smiled and put a hand on his chest.

"Izuku, it's nice to meet you too."

_

After a challenging yet rewarding English class, Izuku made his way to the final class of the day, that being chemistry.

Walking into the lab room, Izuku immediately noticed a familiar head of red hair seated beside a window, her head rested on her hand as she stared outside.

For a moment or two, Izuku found himself frozen in the doorway to the classroom, memories of yesterday and his conversation with Rex flooded his brain as he tried to control his nerves.

After taking a long breath to steel himself, Izuku made his way into the classroom as his hands became clammy, his gaze moving to the girl in the corner every second or two.

He needed to say something to her, to apologize, so he opened his mouth.

"E-Eve, I'm-" he began, but felt the wind suddenly leave his lungs as his chest slammed into a desk.

Looking down for a moment as he lurched forward, Izuku all but fell on his face, the desk he walked into like an idiot skidding along the floor and bumping into Eve's.

Looking away from the window, hearing her name and the noise that came after, Eve looked down to where Izuku laid and couldn't help but laugh at the display.

Blushing wildly at his clumsiness, Izuku quickly got up and moved the desk back. After doing so, he looked around the room and sighed in relief as he saw no one other than the two of them were there.

"Some entrance there, hero."

Smirking as she spoke, Izuku sighed as another round of laughs left Eve's lips, the sound of which eventually led Izuku to begin to chuckle as well.

As the two settled down and Izuku took a seat next to Eve, the younger teen looked over to her and played with his hands.

"Look, I'm sorry for yesterday." Izuku began, taking a moment to choose his words, "I was already near the area and felt I could handle it on my own, it won't happen again."

As the words left his mouth, Eve looked to him for a moment before looking outside once more, her eyes watching a bird build its nest in the tree beside the classroom window.

"...When I saw you get hurt on the tv, I lost my shit." Eve began with an edge to her voice, eyes still glued to the bird outside as it weaved a stick into its nest.

"I was extremely worried and incredibly pissed."

Subconsciously, Izuku gulped down a lump that began to form in his throat, his hands feeling increasingly sweaty at each word spoken by the red head.

"...If you do something idiotic like that again, I swear to god I'll kill you myself."

As her head turned around and faced him, Izuku fully expected to see a scowl or some sort of negative reaction painted across her gave. But to his surprise, what he ended up seeing was not at all what he expected.

Tears.

As the boy sputtered and flailed his arms in panic, not at all knowing what caused this reaction and wondering how he could help quell it, Eve wiped her eyes and shoved a finger into his chest, very reminiscent of what Rex did last night.

As his stuttering stopped, Izuku looked down to the finger for a moment before looking back up to Eve, a stern look spread across her face.

"You're too good of a person to die like that, the world really needs someone like you in it, so don't get yourself killed playing hero on your own."

Knowing what she had said was all but a demand, Izuku vehemently nodded his head while looking right into her eyes, green meeting green once again.

"...I promise."

With that vow given and a satisfied nod from Eve, she leaned towards him and with that same firm expression, whispered in his ear.

"I expect an explanation on what happened at some point."

Moving her head back and giving the boy a smile, one with that patented underlying threat that he was starting to get used to, Izuku nodded his head in agreement.

With the tension handled between them, the two heroes talked amongst themselves for a few minutes until their classmates entered their room. Before too long, the room had was fully packed with their peers and was filled with chatter, conversations of all types filling the room as their teacher walked in.

About five or so minutes later, as the bell above the door began to ring, the class all began to quiet down and looked to the front of the room where the teacher cleared his throat.

Clapping his hands together twice to silence his students, the man seemingly in his forties wrote his name on the blackboard and smiled.

"So, who knows the definition of chemistry?"

_

As the final bell rang and Izuku got up from his seat, grabbing his backpack that hung behind him, Eve also did the same. The two friends, giving one another a look, left the classroom with Izuku leading the charge.

As they walked, weaving their way through the hallway and around their peers, the front doors of the school came into view and soon enough, out the two went.

As the cool wind of a springtime afternoon nipped at their skin, Izuku began walking down the steps and Eve did the same. Once about halfway down, standing side by side, the two teens looked to one another with smiles on their faces, both were fully ready to say their goodbyes and start their evenings.

But.

"Izuku! Eve!"

It seemed as though fate had other plans for the night.

"Let's hang out!"

As the two heroes looked behind them, standing a few steps higher than them, none other than Mark Grayson stood with an exhausted smile on his face.

For a moment or two, the two more experienced heroes had confused looks on their faces, looking to one another before their gaze returned back to Mark.

"What did you have in mind?" Izuku asked curiously, not at all expecting this. While he was by no means opposed to hanging out, this all seemed a bit sudden.

Regardless though, his lips morphed into a smile. The green haired teen wondered what he had in mind, but felt the urge to comedically fall over as the hero known as Invincible shrugged his shoulders.

As Eve sighed at the display, it was clear to them that Mark clearly had not thought that far ahead. Not one to give up easily though, Mark began to brainstorm ideas on the fly. He closed his eyes to think for a moment, but a new voice brought him back to reality.

"How about bowling?"

Staggering a bit forward in surprise, nearly falling down a few steps to the amusement of Izuku and Eve, Mark turned around to see a blonde haired girl smiling to him.

That girl being Amber.

As the son of Omni Man sputtered out a storm of incoherent nonsense, a blush on his face all the while, the blonde haired girl walked forward and looked down, meeting eyes with Izuku and Eve.

While Amber only gave Eve a passing glance, albeit with her smile widening a bit, her eyes widened a bit at the sight of Izuku. A bit caught off guard by her reaction, the teenage hero awkwardly waved to her as she pointed at him.

"You're the guy from my English class!"

Laughing a bit to himself, Izuku nodded his head and then looked to Eve who had a smirk on her face.

"So you know Izuku too, huh?" She asked the blonde, moving a hand to her hip while Amber nodded.

"Yup! Although I just met him today."

Smiling at that, Izuku looked to Eve and then to Mark, all of whom were now looking at him.

Glancing at the three one at a time, Izuku came to a conclusion.

"Wait, you all know one another?" Izuku asked curiously, then watched as the three nodded their heads to confirm his theory, albeit Mark doing so a bit more subduedly than the girls.

"I've been friends with Eve since we were in middle school." Amber began, then looked away from Izuku and glanced to Mark.

"And I've known of Mark since my freshman year, although this is the first real conversation I've had with him." She finished with her tongue sticking out, Mark's blush deepened a bit as he laughed nervously.

"W-well, I'm down to make this a more extended conversation if you'd like to join us." The son of Omni Man offered with a smile on his face, the underlying meaning of his response not going unnoticed by Amber who blushed a bit.

Eve, who also picked that up, felt her eyes widen at what was said. She never imagined the heroic newbie would have it in him to be so forward.

Izuku meanwhile...

"Yeah! The more the merrier."

Was none the wiser.

As Amber looked away from the boys and down to Eve for a moment, she smirked as she spoke. "So how about it Eve, wanna crush these boys in bowling?"

Nodding her head, Eve was more than down for that idea.
_

In his whole life up to this point, Izuku Midoriya had never used an Uber, but as he sat next to Mark and two girls across from him, he found himself enjoying the experience.

As the girls talked to one another with smiles on their faces, whatever girl talk they engaged in going over the boys' heads, Mark turned to Izuku as he stared out the window.

For a moment or two Mark solely observed his friend. The son of Omni Man wondered just what Izuku had gone through to be as strong as he was.

Maybe he'd ask one day, but for now at least, Mark's focus was elsewhere.

"So when does my training continue?" Mark asked his friend with a curious grin, subconsciously thinking back to their spar and his eventual loss.

Mark vowed to not let that happen again.

Blowing a raspberry as he watched the world go by outside his window, Izuku genuinely didn't have an answer off the top of his head.

If he was being completely honest, the training was barely on his mind as of late, too much had happened for that to have space. But he did promise Mark, so he would make it a priority.

Looking to his friend, Izuku smirked.

"This weekend, I'll text you the details."

Nodding his head, Mark smiled.

"Sounds like a plan."

As the two boys fell into their own dialogue, across from them Eve and Amber were having their own conversation, albeit one significantly less hero related.

Back when Amber had met Eve in middle school, the two had been good friends and talked almost every day. Although in the past few years, they hadn't talked all that much.

Life had pulled them in seemingly two different directions, so to Amber at least, age hoped this could serve as an opportunity to rekindle their friendship.

"How are things with Rex going?"

Blowing a raspberry, Eve shook her head. Amber, who had expected nothing less than that response, couldn't help but giggle a bit.

"You're really too good for him Eve, he's kinda a prick."

While normally a comment like that might've been seen as stepping over a line, for the two girls, both of them knew it was true.

As a sigh escaped through her lips, Eve couldn't help but agree with what Amber had said. Back when her life was at its absolute worst, she had met Rex and he was always there for her. But as she slowly began to pick up the pieces of her life and become somewhat normal, Rex began acting differently.

While it was just him being more of a jerk at first, something she could tolerate, Eve quickly found out that the guy had cheated on her multiple times.

While this pissed her off to no end, and despite knowing that those weren't just red flags, but crimson ones, she just couldn't bring herself to leave him. As much as she didn't want to admit it, he always seemed to say the right things and with the fact that he was there for her when she needed him most, Eve found herself in a death loop of sorts.

By now, having dated for a significant amount of time, Eve had to have given him at least six chances, six too many.

"On a lighter topic." Amber spoke once more, pulling Eve from her thoughts.

"What do you think of Izuku?"

At first the question didn't really register within her mind, but soon enough Eve's eyes began to widen and a small blush crept across her face.

Shaking her head at first to her friend, the underlying meaning of the question not lost on her, Eve began to conjure up some sort of response. It took a few seconds, but as she began to string the words together within her mind, Eve's eyes couldn't help but gaze at the boy in question.

The way he joked with Mark with that infectious smile on his face, the way he battled as a hero over the few weeks she had known him, and his desire to push forward despite his troubling situation, it all impressed her greatly.

As the string of words she created within her mind began to crumble, Eve simply found herself smiling with a hint of red dusting her cheeks. Opening her mouth to speak, Amber couldn't help but smirk to herself, seemingly already having her answer.

"He's nice."
