Chapter Text
It’s a quiet afternoon, maybe a week later.
They’re sitting under a tree in the school courtyard—Kageyama half-asleep, Hinata lying on the grass beside him, talking about nothing and everything.
The chaos has settled. There’s no more hiding. No more weird tension.
Just... them.
Kageyama opens his eyes slowly, turning his head toward Hinata. “Hey.”
“Hmm?”
Kageyama hesitates. Then, in a very un-Kageyama move, reaches over and gently pokes Hinata’s forehead.
Hinata blinks up at him, confused. “What was that for?”
“You were being annoying,” Kageyama mumbles.
Hinata laughs. “You love that I’m annoying.”
Kageyama says nothing.
Just reaches over again and threads their fingers together.
“I do.”
Hinata stares.
“…You do?”
Kageyama nods. “Even when you trip over your own feet. Even when you corner me in gym class. Even when your voice is too loud and your face is too close and you smile like you’re about to explode.”
Hinata’s whole body goes still.
“…Wow.”
Kageyama clears his throat. “I’m not good at this.”
Hinata squeezes his hand. “You’re perfect at it.”
They lay there in silence, holding hands, the breeze tugging gently at their hair. There’s no crowd, no bets, no chaos.
Just the two of them.
And maybe, just maybe , everything they didn’t realize they’d been building from the moment they met.
