Chapter Text
“We’re late!” Ikjun wakes up to the shriek from beside him.
Groggily, he registers the light from the sun shining, the frantic movements of Songhwa trying to get up from bed, and he slowly sits up.
“Wha—“
“Lee Ikjun, we’re so late.” Songhwa points with her head to the clock hanging on their wall. Ikjun squints. It’s blurry.
“Songhwa-ya, glasses.” Songhwa stops in her hurried morning routine, hands him the item, and hurries to the bathroom.
Ikjun looks at the clock.
Yep, they are late.
“Lee Uju!”
——
Both of them arrived at the hospital with only a few minutes to spare, thanks to the miraculous traffic.
They bid their goodbye with a simple kiss, and then proceeds to half-sprint (they’re in their forties, so sprinting is just out of the options)— Songhwa to the ER due to the emergency call, Ikjun to his office to prepare for rounds.
In the ER, Seongyeong is explaining to Songhwa the detailed condition of the patient, and they are looking through the scan from one of the monitors Songhwa works as per usual, fixing her glasses to see the image more clearly.
Once.
Twice.
Huh.
She does not pay much attention to it, seeing as the patient’s condition is critical and she gives a string of instructions to Seongyeong, who nods and takes notes.
——-
Ikjun’s head hurts.
It’s a weird type of hurting, and he is so puzzled as to why. He slept early last night, took his vitamins, did his workout, and none of the patients today are in critical condition so no emergency surgery.
He tilts his head.
“Waeyo, gyosunim? Does your head hurt?” Nurse Soobin asks from his right side on the outpatients room.
“Ah, yes, it hurts a bit, although I can’t figure out why.” He massages his temple and took off his glasses.
“Do you want some medicine, Gyosunim?” Soobin asks again.
“I think I’m fine. May have to take one after doing the rounds, though. Thank you, Soobin-ssaem.” He offers Soobin a smile.
The rest of the outpatients went through quicker than he thought, so he is out of his seat the moment Soobin announces they are done with outpatients and hopefully for the day.
His feet takes him to Songhwa’s office. He wants to sleep this headache so bad. He took off the glasses and put it back on again, but his eyesight seems fine, it’s just his head hurting.
He enters Songhwa’s office to find her napping on her couch, and judging from her outfit and the tiredness of her face, he deduces that she just finished an emergency surgery.
He went over and sits, puts a small pillow, and lifts her head to the pillow on his lap. Songhwa must be so tired she didn’t even wake up; just curls to her side facing him.
And they fell asleep.
——
Two hours later, Ikjun wakes up with a stiff neck from sitting in an upright position. He stretches a bit and glances at his lap.
Songhwa is still sleeping.
He decides to wake her up. It’s way past dinner time anyway.
“Songhwa-ya.” He pats her hair slowly, not wanting to surprise her.
Songhwa responds with a hum.
“Yeobooo.” He glances to the door, and when he sees no one, pecks her cheeks and caresses her back comfortingly. “Let’s eat dinner, hm?”
Songhwa opens her eyes, closes it, opens it again.
“Okay.”
She gets up slowly to sit, and slowly leans into Ikjun’s front to she’s half-hugging him.
“Hug.”
Ikjun chuckles and hugs her back, running his hand up and down her back. To others, she is a talented professor, the Ghost, a mentor, a goofy friend. To him, she is his clingy baby.
Marrying Chae Songhwa has its perks and this is one of them, he thinks to himself.
“Alright, hug. But no falling back to sleep.”
Songhwa nods and melts into him for a while, and then she muttered, “okay. charged.” and detangles herself from him, already looking at the array of food on the table.
For you lovebirds.
The note, clearly written by none other than Kim Junwan, is stuck to one of the samgyeopsal packaging. Ikjun peeks at the note and laughs.
“I can hear his irritation just from the note.”
“Exactly.” Songhwa chuckles. “That Kim Junwan, really. As if he’s not a lovebird himself with his bidulgi.”
They eat in comfortable silence, save from some small talk about the recent development of Seokmin and Seonbin (they’re engaged), how Uju is doing at school, Uju’s field trip, and her mother’s next check up to the neurologist.
They are tidying the table after eating when Songhwa suddenly says, “You know, I think something is wrong with my glasses. They keep sliding down my nose. Weird, right? Yesterday it was fine and today suddenly it’s loose.”
“Eo, you should get it checked.” Ikjun replies, looking up from his phone. He pauses to think. “Actually, I also have to go to the optic. Mine is too small, I think. Maybe also why my head hurts a bit today.”
Songhwa nods. “Okay, tomorrow then.”
She continues wiping the table when it clicks.
Her glasses being too big.
Ikjun’s being too small.
Seolma…..
She looks at Ikjun, who is replying to chats in his phone.
“Ikjun-ah.”
“Hmm?”
“Is it possible… that….”
Ikjun looks up from the phone at her.
“….our glasses are….”
He furrows his brows, still not getting what she means.
“….maybe switched?”
“Eheyy, it can’t be! This is min—“ Ikjun took off the glasses he’s wearing and Songhwa slowly did the same.
And then their eyes find each other.
——-
Later, Heo Seonbin finds them exhausted from laughing, holding their stomachs and wiping their eyes.
