Chapter Text

Graduation Day
Late Afternoon – University Green

The lawn was crowded. Tables, folding chairs, robes flapping in the breeze. Bright white tents. Laughter sharp as bells.

Will stood at the edge of it all, cap tucked under one arm, tie crooked, diploma folder pressed flat to his side like it might vanish if he let it go.

He wasn’t sure why he stayed so long after the ceremony. He didn’t like crowds. Didn’t like the way people smiled too hard, shook hands like congratulations were absolution. But he lingered anyway, boots in the grass, fingers twitching like maybe he wanted a cigarette. Like maybe he wanted something else entirely.

Winston waited nearby, tethered to a shaded post with a bowl of water and all the patience in the world. Will glanced at him, then back toward the main hall.

And there he was.

Hannibal stepped out from the building’s shadow, tailored and composed, untouched by the wind. No longer his professor. Not anymore. Just a man now. Watching him.

Their eyes met across the green.

And Will—heart caught somewhere between calm and collapse—walked to meet him.

No one noticed. Or if they did, they didn’t care. The day was too full of endings.

They stopped a few feet apart.

Will looked at him, searching for something he hadn’t been able to name, not even after all these months. Maybe not even now.

But Hannibal didn’t speak.

He only reached forward—slow, deliberate—and adjusted Will’s tie. Smoothed the line of his collar like it meant something.

“Still trying to fix me,” Will said softly.

“No,” Hannibal murmured. “Just admiring what you’ve become.”

Will swallowed. His eyes flicked downward, then back up. “It’s over.”

“The lectures,” Hannibal said. “The classroom. That part, yes.”

“And the rest?”

Hannibal was quiet a moment. Then:
“That depends on whether you walk away.”

Will’s fingers tightened around the folder in his hand.

He could. He knew that. He could step back, leave this as something beautiful and broken and safely behind him. Something only they would remember.

But he didn’t.

Instead, he handed Hannibal the folder—just for a second—like he needed to put it down to say what mattered.

Then he stepped forward. Closed the distance.

And kissed him.

There, in the soft noise of summer ending. No witnesses. No names spoken.

Just breath. Just gravity. Just them.

When they parted, Hannibal’s hand remained at Will’s jaw, steady. Warm.

“Still afraid?” he asked.

Will shook his head slowly.

“No,” he said. “Just ready.”

And for the first time in what felt like years, he smiled.

My sibling suggested I don't edit (<) from the 'texts' so it seems more natural. I decided to go with it. Tell me if it seems bad or annoying. Also, the number of chapters is an estimate, it could be one more or less from the number
