Chapter 5: A New Relationship

Summary:

You and Leo figure this new relationship out, in your own way.

Chapter Text

Weeks had passed since you and Leo had officially become a thing, and it was filled with both heartwarming and awkward moments. Like when the two of you had no idea how to interact after you had confessed your feelings. Leo was extremely doting and loving, almost too much sometimes, while you were the more awkward one. It was the first relationship for both of you, and so there were many hurdles that needed to be crossed.

For example, you wanted to keep your relationship on the down-low at school; but before you could even talk to Leo about it, he was shouting it from the rooftops – literally. Unfortunately, you had to learn about it first hand when you heard his distant, but completely recognizable voice screaming about how much he loved you from the top of the school’s building; You seriously considered leaving your social life behind after that and becoming a shut-in. When you confronted him about it later, he looked so proud of himself that you felt bad telling him how embarrassing it was for you.

“Leo… maybe don’t do that anymore.”

“But how else will everyone know?!”

“They don’t need to know, Leo. We can tell people normally if we want next time, okay?”

“Alright, whatever my darling wants! As long as no one takes you away~”

There was another thing. Leo was insanely clingy. Like he would crumble to dust if he didn’t have at least a bit of your attention at all times. Luckily, you didn’t mind. You enjoyed it, deep down.

Along with the clinginess, his own affection grew to be even worse. Non-stop compliments, which was saying something considering he barely even gave you time to breath before confessing your feelings. Whenever you were alone – especially alone – he was all over you like a koala to its favourite tree.

Like right now, you were both in a music room after class. Leo hugged you from behind as you both sat on the floor, watching you do some homework. For others, the relentless loving gestures would be overwhelming or too much; but perhaps it was the fate of the universe that Leo ended up with someone as patient as you.

“Don’t you have some of your own work to do, Leo?” You ask with a small sigh.

“Nope, my angel is much more fun~” He smiled and nuzzled even more into the back of your neck.

“That won’t help get your grades up.”

He sighed and rested his chin on your shoulder.

“Can’t I just stay here for a few more minutes?”

His voice was much quieter than usual, almost desperate, and it made your heart jump a little.

“...Fine. But you have to promise you’ll get something done tonight.”

“Okay! Cross my heart.”

And so you let him continue to snuggle up to you for a little more than a few minutes. You were never really able to refuse him when he used that gentle tone of voice, like he was saving his softer side just for you. You felt his warm breath on your skin, a comforting reminder that he was always right there. His arms were wrapped stubbornly around your waist, and with his chest pressed against your back you no longer had any reason to complain about the chilly draft from the window.

You didn’t end up getting much work done either, since you could barely focus with him so close – but as you turned your head slightly to look at him, you saw how comfortable and quiet he looked; and you didn’t have the heart to ask him to move away. The moment couldn’t last forever, though, and you were left with no choice but to disturb him.

“Leo…” You whispered softly, worried that he had fallen asleep.

“Mmh…?”

You laughed softly and patted his arm that was still holding you like a vice.

“We should go home now, hm?”

“Don’t wanna…”
You sighed and turned around to face him, his arms slipping a little from around your waist.

“It’s getting late. Look, the sky is already orange.”

He followed your gaze out the window with sleepy, half-lidded eyes before returning to you with that familiar grin that always left you in shambles.

“You’re so smart, (Y/N)...”

“Huh…?”

He shook his head in a way that reminded you of a dog drying off after a swim, trying to get more alert.

“Okay, I’m awake now.”

“Good, now let’s-”

“(Y/N),” He interrupted you by placing a hand on your shoulder, and you felt your face heat up when you saw the way he was looking at you.

“Uh- yes?”

“Can I play a song for you before we leave?” He asked, looking rather vulnerable for someone of his kind.

“Oh… of course.”

He stood and walked over to the grand piano that was nearby; the one where you had first met him. It almost felt like the piano was some kind of external force bringing the two of you together, like it was watching over you.

You watched as he sat down, and started playing a beautiful tune spun with delicate rhythms and a heart-wrenching chord progression. You could have watched him play for hours. The way his expression shifted to something that was more alert, attentive. Like his mind and his heart were being put on display for anyone lucky enough to stumble across him. He played like it was a secret, the gentle soundwaves flooding into your ears like a warm embrace. His warm embrace. Just for you.

When the song ended, you weren’t ready. He glanced over at you afterward, his fingers resting on the keys.

“What did you think?” He asked, and you could tell he was actually… nervous?

“It was beautiful.” You replied instantly, standing up to walk over to him.

“You really think so?” He looked into your eyes, shining as if they were filled with words unspoken.

You nodded, caressing his face like something worth the effort of being gentle.

“I want to hear it again sometime.”

He smiled a little bit, and it wasn’t his usual smile. It was like he had toned himself down to someone raw and open, like he was trusting you completely with his heart.

“It was for you, y’know.”

That made your own heart stutter as you took his hand.

“Yeah?”

“Yeah… and I called it My Magic. Well, because… you’re kind of magical to me; and you’ve been telling me that I should make my titles easier to remember.”

Along with the overwhelming feeling of adoration you felt for him, you felt a pang of pride for his ever-improving titling skills. Your cheeks felt warm as you spoke:

“Leo… that’s lovely. Thank you for sharing it.”

He beamed, and every time he did you were always reminded why you fell for him.

“I wish I could give you everything, but for now my music will have to do!”

You brushed a strand of messy hair from out of his face affectionately.

“That’s all I could want, anyway.”
