Chapter Text
The room falls silent.
For once, it's not because of a heated debate or an awkward pause, it's because Jhoanisse Villarreal just stepped out of her bedroom...
And she looks breathtaking.
The fitted black and white dress hugs her figure in a way none of them expected. It's elegant, minimalistic, structured. Just like her, but with a hint of softness that comes from the way the fabric flares at her knees and catches the light. Her hair is curled slightly at the ends, a gentle sweep of waves falling just below her shoulders. And her makeup, done carefully by Ayahli and Stacelyn, gives her a softness and a quiet kind of glow.
Ayahli lets out a low whistle. "Wow. You're like— wow. I think we broke the president."
Mikelle, arms crossed and lounging near the wall, straightens up a little, genuinely surprised. "I've never seen her dressed up like this before. This might be history in the making."
Jhoanisse gives a soft, awkward chuckle, rubbing the back of her neck. "I feel like I'm playing dress-up."
But Stacelyn doesn't say anything. She's just staring—eyes wide, lips slightly parted, like she's forgotten how to breathe.
Jhoanisse shifts slightly, her nerves picking up. "Is it... too much?"
Stacelyn finally snaps out of it, blinking rapidly. "No. No, it's—" She pauses, her expression softening into something almost reverent. "It's just missing one thing."
She glances around the room, eyes landing on the small table where Jhoanisse's thick rimmed glasses sit. Without a word, she walks over, picks them up delicately, and returns to stand in front of her.
"Here," she murmurs, carefully sliding them onto Jhoanisse's face. Her fingers brush against her skin, and Jhoanisse stills, heart thumping in her chest.
Ayahli tilts her head. "Okay, but like... really? The glasses? I feel like they kinda ruin the whole—"
"They make it perfect," Stacelyn cuts in gently, not looking away. Her voice is warm but certain, like there's no room for argument. "She's not just pretty tonight. She's her."
Jhoanisse looks down for a second, adjusting the frames nervously. "I'm not used to dressing like this."
Stacelyn reaches for her hand and laces their fingers together. "That's okay. You don't have to be. You just need to stay right beside me."
Their eyes meet, and for a moment, everything around them fades. The flickering dorm lights. The soft hum of music playing in the background. Even Mikelle's exaggerated gagging sound in the corner.
Ayahli, now standing beside Mikelle, loops her arm through hers with a mischievous grin. "Alright, lovebirds. Let's move before this becomes a whole rom-com montage."
Jhoanisse rolls her eyes but smiles. Mikelle just shakes her head, laughing softly.
And just like that, the four of them head out the door together. An unlikely mix of chaos, beauty, and something beginning to feel like love.
The party is already buzzing when they arrive.
Colorful lights flicker against the high walls of the off-campus house, the low bass of music thumping through the floorboards. Laughter and chatter spill out into the front yard, where clusters of students are already taking selfies, sipping from red cups, and hyping each other up.
But the second the four of them step through the front door... Jhoanisse, Stacelyn, Mikelle, and Ayahli, there's a shift in the room. Like the energy holds its breath for a moment.
Jaws drop.
Conversations stutter.
People stop mid-sip.
Because there, arm in arm, is the school's popular elites and the student council dream team, and no one was prepared for how good they all looked, least of all Jhoanisse.
She feels the stares immediately. Her heart races, her posture stiffens. She resists the urge to shrink into herself, tugging slightly at the hem of her dress. This felt like a mistake. Maybe she—
"You look stunning."
Stacelyn's voice is soft against her ear, just loud enough to cut through the noise of her nerves. Jhoanisse turns, blinking.
Stacelyn smiles, eyes gleaming under the lights. "Seriously. You're turning more heads than I am. It's kind of unfair."
"You're lying," Jhoanisse mumbles.
"I'm not." Stacelyn moves in closer, resting her hand on the small of Jhoanisse's back. "You look like a goddess and the president of the galaxy at the same time."
Jhoanisse blushes furiously, biting her lip to keep the smile from spreading too wide. "You're so silly tonight."
"And you'll learn to love it."
They both laugh, and the tension eases just a little.
Meanwhile, Mikelle and Ayahli are already being swarmed by a group of familiar faces. Malisse and Coleyne, both dressed to kill and sipping mocktails, strut over with matching strappy heels and even bolder energy.
"Well, well, well," Malisse purrs, looking Jhoanisse up and down like she's inspecting rare art. "The student council president came out of her cocoon and turned into a full-blown butterfly."
"More like an office siren," Coleyne adds. "She looks like she came to slay and collect taxes."
Jhoanisse snorts, completely caught off-guard, while Mikelle nearly spills her drink laughing. "Please," Mikelle says between chuckles, "that's the nicest thing anyone's said to her outside a debate."
As they talk, Gwynna and Sheyra slip in, dressed in coordinated jewel tones and holding hands as usual. Sheyra grins when she sees the group and immediately pulls Jhoanisse into a tight hug.
"You clean up insanely well," she whispers.
"Let her breathe," Gwynna adds, chuckling as she gently pulls Sheyra back.
Soon enough, they've gathered in a small circle near the corner of the room, each person drawing curious glances from partygoers around them. Whispers start drifting through the air.
"Is that... Jhoanisse Villarreal?"
"Since when is she hanging out with them?"
"She's... actually kind of gorgeous?"
"Wait— are Mikelle and Ayahli a thing now?"
"Did the student council and the popular crew merge? Is that allowed?"
The gossip swirls, but none of it touches their circle.
Malisse and Coleyne launch into a dramatic retelling of how they snuck into their professor's private faculty party last year. Gwynna and Sheyra start rating party outfits, giving everyone around them silent 1-to-10 scores. Mikelle finds a couch to crash one and starts entertaining Ayahli in her own cool collected way.
And through it all, Stacelyn stays glued to Jhoanisse's side.
She compliments her in the exact way Jhoanisse does for her. Not just about the dress or her makeup, but her confidence, her calm energy, the way she holds herself even when nervous.
"You know what I admire most about you?" Stacelyn asks, pulling Jhoanisse just a little to the side when the music gets louder.
"What?"
"The way you can walk into a room like this, terrified out of your mind, and still somehow look like you own the place."
Jhoanisse gives her a wry smile. "I don't feel like I own anything."
"You own me," Stacelyn jokes, then adds, "and like half the school's attention right now."
They burst into quiet laughter again, hands brushing.
Later, when the group decides to take a break outside for fresh air, they sit on the porch steps together, everyone in a messy line of limbs, heels off, shoulders leaning on one another. It's chaotic, warm, and a little surreal.
Jhoanisse leans against Stacelyn's shoulder. "I thought this was going to be miserable."
"I told you," Stacelyn says, linking their pinkies, "you just had to stay beside me. I'll take care of you in situations like these. Just like you do when I have to use my noggin on campus."
The music fades behind them as they step off the porch, shoes in hand and warmth lingering on their skin from the party.
The air is cooler here. Quieter, softer, like the universe is giving them space to breathe.
Jhoanisse finally breaks the silence. "Hey... can we walk for a bit?"
Stacelyn slows, her party glow dimming into something softer. "Of course."
They meander past hedges and parked cars, down a familiar path lined with trees. It's just the two of them now. No teasing voices, no curious stares, no titles. Just Jhoanisse and Stacelyn.
"I've been thinking," Jhoanisse says after a moment, voice barely above a whisper. "Ever since we started talking more... I've noticed these parts of myself I didn't know were there."
Stacelyn glances at her, listening intently.
Jhoanisse's gaze is ahead, but her words are gentle. "Like I'm still me, but... freer. Like I'm growing into myself for the first time. I've always just been... the smart one. But now I can joke around and I can dress up like this."
Stacelyn stops walking. Jhoanisse does too.
"Then I should be the one thanking you," Stacelyn says, brushing a loose curl behind her ear. "For letting me do the same. Always reminds me I'm more than just a pretty face. I wouldn't have figured all this out without a proper mentor."
Jhoanisse tilts her head with a playful smirk. "A proper girlfriend, you mean."
Stacelyn's breath catches. Then she laughs, eyes crinkling with that signature sparkle. She steps closer, their hands brushing twice, before finding each other, fingers lacing easily like they were always meant to.
And then, without hesitation, Stacelyn kisses her.
Soft. Intentional. A promise written into the quiet air.
When they part, it's slow, like neither of them are in a rush to leave that moment.
They look at each other, the future stretching out before them like an open sky.
"I don't know where life's going to take us," Stacelyn whispers. "But I know I want to keep walking it with you till wherever our finale ends."
And in the hush of the night, beneath stars and laughter still echoing from afar, that's all they need.
A month later, the auditorium hums with soft chatter as students shuffle into their seats, a buzz of curiosity hanging in the air. The lights shine bright on the stage, where the student council is already lined up in their new polished yet stylish uniforms, though something is different today.
Jhoanisse stands at the center, notes in hand, her usual blazer swapped for a fitted pastel cardigan and pleated skirt, hair curled ever so slightly at the ends. There's a confidence in her stance, but a gentler kind, the kind that blooms when someone finally starts dressing not for the role, but for themselves.
She glances at the paper once, then looks out at the crowd.
"Thank you all for coming," she begins, her voice steady but warm. "Today's assembly isn't just about updates, it's about change. About growth. And most of all, about welcoming someone who embodies all of that."
The murmurs swell into a curious silence.
"Today I'd like to formally introduce the newest member of the student council," Jhoanisse says, a soft smile tugging at her lips. "She'll be in charge of club management and student life activities. Please welcome... Stacelyn Cruz."
The stage door opens and in walks Stacelyn, bright, radiant, unapologetically herself.
She's still got her signature girly flair, the student council uniform with her own pink blazer, matching heels, and her curls pinned half-up, but there's also something different about her too. Her glasses. Perched neatly on her nose like they belong there.
Because they do.
The crowd goes wild.
Ayahli lets out a cheer loud enough for three people. Malisse whistles. Coleyne claps so hard it sounds like thunder. Gwynna and Sheyra bounce in their seats, clearly delighted.
But all Stacelyn sees is Jhoanisse, standing proud at the center of it all.
She walks over and laces their fingers together in front of everyone. Her smile is wide, genuine, a light all its own. "Hi, everyone," she says, her voice clear, no nerves behind it. "I'm honored to be here. And I'm even more excited for the fun we're going to create together."
The crowd cheers again, this time not just for the girl who turned heads at every hallway—but for the one who's now number two in academics, a budding leader, and someone known for more than just her looks.
Jhoanisse looks at her with shining eyes, like she's watching a star finally take its rightful place in the sky.
And Stacelyn looks right back, her gaze locked onto Jhoanisse's like she's grounding herself in that moment.
In the quiet that follows the applause, something unspoken settles between them:
The future is theirs.
No more masks.
No more expectations.
No more holding back.
Just two girls, side by side, building something real—on their own terms.
