Chapter Text

Higuchi, despite how much she tried, struggled to keep a straight face. Akutagawa had invited her inside — and she couldn't help but awe at the gesture. She turned around to face her crush, who was still holding her hand, noticing his faintly coloured cheeks. Was he blushing? Surely her eyes are just deceiving her! Maybe his kindness is getting to her?  It's not everyday that Akutagawa is nice enough to do this after all…

As she was lost in thought, Akutagawa gently removed her jacket. Only noticing the act a few seconds after, she muttered: “S-sir! You don't need to-”

“I wanted to.” He cut in. Which only made the girl's already red face glow deeper.

She felt her hand twist with his as she was guided to the kitchen. The smell of fresh pastries and cakes filled the air instantly. Higuchi’s mouth watered at the smell.

“Here” Akutagawa said as he grabbed her a chair. “I made some macarons you can try.”

“Ah, yes! Thank you.. Sir!” Should she still call him Sir? It felt too formal for a casual setting like this… They've never been so close outside of work before…

Akutagawa grabbed a few different flavoured macarons and placed them on a small plate, the design being similar to his Rashomon. How cute.

“I made a few vanilla flavoured ones and some strawberry ones. Take what you like.” He muttered.

Higuchi’s smile was anything but bright at this point. Why had he even made these in the first place anyway? She grabbed the pink strawberry macaron and took a bite. It was delicious, of course.

“Mm! So good-!” she chuckled. She opened her eyes, when had she closed them? to see her senpai smiling.

Smiling?!

His smile was the best thing she had seen all day, hell maybe even her life. She wanted to make him smile more, no matter what it would take to get it.

She will make him smile all throughout the week! That'll be her best birthday present yet!

Higuchi had taken Akutagawa to the local crepe stand in central yokohama. The weather was perfectly sunny, that she got to wear her favourite lemon dress that Kajii got her some time ago. Surely cute enough for Akutagawa to awe at!

She opened her eyes to see Akutagawa taking their orders. “Sir!” She tugged at his shirt. “Can I have the Strawberry one!”

He nodded, without giving her a glance. Placing her order in her hand, as he smoothly intertwined his vacant one with hers. Despite being a bit distracted by the… date? Did this count as a date? Despite it all , she felt all the nerves rub off the longer the two spent with each other.

Akutagawa coughed. “You don't have to call me ‘Sir’ outside of work.”

“Of course!” She giggled. “You don't have to act so professional either, you know? I like seeing you as more than just a powerful mafia member.”

Akutagawa simply hummed as he squeezed her hand. A faint smile stealing all of Higuchi’s attention. She blushed at the action.

The next day, Akutagawa was the one to turn up at her door.

“Chuuya got us reservations for a fancy restaurant in a few hours. Get dressed.” He basically breathed out.

“Ah, of course!” With such a short notice she would be surprised, but considering it was Chuuya –  she doubts he didn't get it at such. He more likely reserved it for himself a few months back. What did Akutagawa offer for him to give them up?

Regardless, she hurriedly put on an outfit, and made her way back to her senpai. “Let's go, shall we-!”

The drive down was more than just amazing, it was beautiful. At this point she couldn't say what her relationship with the boy was specifically, but she knew- hoped that it was more than just friendly. Friends don't do this… right? She wants to be delusional to believe that Akutagawa would want something more with her. Anything. Maybe just for today then?

Akutagawa draws her back to reality as he gently drags her to their table. “I can order for both of us, if you don't mind.” Akutagawa said as he noticed the girl's sour expression on the menu.

“I don't think I could decide either way…” she chuckled. What's not to love about him?

As the waiter came, she got some sushi – which Akutagawa also bought for himself. She also noticed how during their meal, he would slip some of the food to Rashomon, which was just cute in itself… The day soon turned dark as the moonlight took over the restaurant's atmosphere.

How time flies by…

Akutagawa grabs the girl's hand, guiding her outside onto the balcony. The restaurant was pretty much empty at this time. He pointed above to which her gaze followed. The stars and moon had enveloped the sky – brighter than anything she had seen before. “Woah…” She gasped.

“The moon is beautiful, isn't it?”

She chuckled. “I guess it is…”
