The Random Tales of Hogwarts
Chapter 8: Of computers, Video Games, Broken 4th Walls and Artificial Intelligences.
Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter. Or any video games mentioned in this chapter.
A few weeks passed since the events of the Incident the school now referred to as the Great Pizza Box Fort Food War and Harry was eating breakfast, when Professor Dumbledore stood up.
“Attention Students! It has been brought to my attention that the Muggles have this technology called a computer!
To bring the Wizarding World in line with the Muggle world, today’s History of Magic will be replaced by an Information Technology lesson, taught by the Accountant Weasley relative,” announced Professor Dumbledore,
revealing thirty sleek muggle devices.
“Sir? Shouldn’t the monitors of the computers be bulky, considering this story takes place in 1995?” asked Hermione.
“Miss Granger, in the fourth Harry Potter Book, written by J.K. Rowling, Harry writes a letter to Sirius to tell his godfather about his cousin getting a PlayStation in the Summer of 1994,
when the PlayStation was not released in Europe until the 29th September 1995. Besides, we are in a crack fanfic. It is not supposed to be serious,” replied Professor Dumbledore.
“How many books have been written about Harry?” asked Ron.
“Seven. The books end up getting thicker from the fourth book to the Seventh Book,” sighed Professor McGonagall.
A random student appeared with a book titled Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince and walked over to Professor Snape.
“HOW COULD YOU! YOU KILLED THE HEADMASTER!” yelled the student.
“Get a grip of yourself, Miss Birch. What you are reading is fiction. Besides, the Headmaster is alive and well,” sighed Professor Snape.
Soon, the IT lesson began. Harry noticed that Seamus Finnegan was playing some game called Bum Simulator.
“Mister Finnegan! That game is inappropriate for a school setting!” scolded the Weasley relative that was an accountant.
“Oh Merlin’s Beard, Draco! Why do you have five stars? What did you do?” asked Pansy Parkingson as she watched Draco Malfoy played a game about stealing cars.
“Mister Malfoy! You will be serving detention for playing a violent game! Why can’t you all be like Miss Granger and play educational games?” asked the temporary teacher.
“She’s playing a puzzle game!” protested Lavender Brown.
“First you will be baked and then there will be cake,” Hermione’s game audio suddenly played.
“What game is this, Miss Granger?” asked the Unnamed Accountant Weasley.
The scene froze as if someone paused the show. A rather tired looking woman appeared.
“Sorry for breaking the fourth wall but, I am here briefly to explain the teacher not having a name.
It has been a very long time since I read the Harry Potter books, and I do not remember what the Accountant in the Weasley family’s name.
If he had one. I am not looking it up either as I should be sleeping. Unfortunately, inspiration for this fanfic hit me like a train at 01:46 in the morning. Anyway. Back to the Fanfic,” the woman yawned.
The Scene resumed as if nothing happened.
“It is called Portal. It is a game about solving puzzles. There is an Artificial Intelligence named GLaDOS who is in charge of the facility in the game,” explained Hermione.
“Is the AI like how people use current AI to generate Videos and art?” asked Colin Creevey from the corner.
“Mister Creevey, go to your lesson!” sighed the teacher. The fourth year student went back to his class.
“The Artificial Intelligence we currently have are being used to create Videos, artworks and stories. However, what they are currently is a plagiarise machines.
You can give it a source and prompt it to generate anything you want. However, the style of the work will have flaws, because AI cannot think for itself.
It only copies from it sources.
And those sources are often times been taken without consent from the website owner or owners of the art work or fanfics that were obtained without the user who uploaded the content knowing,” sighed the teacher.
Harry frowned as he noticed something was odd with Hermione's tie. It shifted to different shades of colours until the colours became too bright.
He blinked and found himself in the Great Hall, covered in mashed Potatoes.
“Are you all right, Harry? You got knocked out by Padfoot,” explained Hermione.
“Thank Merlin’s beard that it was some sort of fever dream. We had these computers at Hogwarts, a student was reading a book based on my adventures at Hogwarts and the Fourth wall kept being broken,” sighed Harry.
“The Dribbles are working hard to fix the fourth wall,” mused Luna. Harry stared at Luna, before being dragged to the hospital wing for a check-up.
He missed Luna looking at the fourth wall with a small smile.
