Chapter Text

The next few days were really blurry for Johnny. He remembered hearing Kung Lao and Kenshi talking, hearing Raiden’s fucking snore.. It was all either overstimulating for him or understimulating for him. He remembered waking up one time, in the night, hearing scoffing. Cocky scoffing. Goddamnit, that was his job.

Wait- as foggy as his memory is, he knew that was the present. He tried his best to open his eyes, wincing at the lights. It hurt his eyes, and he really wished he had his sunglasses. He looked around, his eyes adjusting to the blueish-yet-white light. And..

Oh. Dear god.

Kenshi was sitting on the bed next to him, Raiden and Kung Lao close together on the couch and trying not to laugh. None of them had noticed he’d woken up yet. “Kuso,” Kenshi said, trying not to laugh. “I really hate you both.” he finished, and Johnny couldn’t help but laugh. ..Man. He loved his friends. Subtly, he looked over on the stand next to his bed. It had a take out box on it, and some.. Half dead orchids. He noted the room was a little different. Maybe they moved him. He blinked a few times, trying to get his eyes to adjust without moving too much. At some point, he just said fuck it, and rubbed at his eyes. The room really went quiet then. Not quiet how it was before, when they were trying not to disturb Johnny, but quiet like an elephant had entered.

Johnny moved his hands, looking up at everyone. Raiden had a nervous smile on his face, and Kung Lao had left the room. Kenshi sighed, trailing right after while Raiden stepped up to the bed.

“Hey, Johnny. How’re you feeling?” He asked warmly, that.. Annoyingly kind smile on his face. It upset Johnny. The fact that he upset so many other people with a stupid decision. He blinked again, trying to stop his fists from clenching. “I’m fine.” He said, clearing his throat. “What’re you guys doing here?” He said with a practiced smile, slyness lacing his tone. “Came all this way just to see lil ol’ me?” Johnny grinned, scooting over so Raiden could sit. Though Johnny was joking, like he always was, he could tell Raiden was sad about something. There was usually so much warmth in his friends face. Now, it was just..

Regret. Grief, as if he’d lost someone. Johnny waited for him to reply, but he looked more like he was going to cry. It made Johnny grimace, and he inhaled like he was about to talk. “Johnny, how come.. How come you never told us you were suffering?” Raiden asked, a hand on Johnny’s. “We could’ve helped. We were always- We are always here for you. You do know that, right?” He spoke quietly, his voice shaky. Johnny couldn’t figure out how one second they were all laughing, then the next Raiden was crying. “..Yeah. Yeah, I know, Rai-dude,” He said, huffing his friend tightly.

He didn’t know what to say. He was uncomfortable. He really didn’t like dealing with emotions, let alone other peoples. That’s not to say he was empathetic towards Raiden, they were one of his best friends , he just… he didn’t understand how Raiden could feel like that. That’s all. How someone could care for him that much, and-

Goddamn it, he was so lost in his thoughts, he didn’t notice Raiden talking again. He had a warm smile on his face, and Johnny didn't really understand what he was saying, but he could tell that he wanted Johnny to agree with him. So he did. He nodded, and watched Raiden leave the room. From the tiny crack in the door, he could vaguely see a teary eyed Kung Lao, and Kenshi hugging him. For whatever reason, it pissed him off.

He wanted to call them back, to tell him that he wanted them back..  But his brain was too foggy. It hurt. His long eyelashes were fluttering shut before he could even argue. He turned  his head against the pillow, taking a second to just look at the orchids. The ones Kenshi bought for him.

He thought, maybe, the saddest part about all this was how in love he was with Kenshi. How much he wished he could kiss him. Or maybe it was the tendency he had to fall asleep just before he saw Kenshi again. Hell, maybe it was the dull beep that started when he closed his eyes. Maybe it was the way Kenshi yelled for him, right before the nurses pushed past him.

Either way, he really was just a sad sack of shit. You deserve this , he could hear his agent say. So he relished it. Relished in the way the air left his lungs, the way Kenshi sobbed with so much pain.

He just hoped his funeral would be as pretty as his best friends face.
