Chapter Text

Mizuki slowly crept to wakefulness, the bed she was in rung no bells in her mind but sparked no panic. She knew she was safe here, even if she didn’t know where “here” was. The soothing warmth at either side of her revealed her own nakedness as well as two pink haired girls.

To her left, a sea of unbelievably gorgeous hair flowed out from a girl who seemed still deep in a slumber. She’d been asleep for a while now, Mizuki knew. She loved the girl, from the bottom of her heart and more than anyone could ever know. She was small and seemed like she could snap in a strong breeze, yet a certain strength emanated from her. Mizuki knew just how much the girl wanted to protect and be protected, how she was capable of struggling through her myriad fears to save the other two. Mizuki loved the girl.

On her right, a short haired girl sat up, awake but quiet, respectful of the other two in bed with her. She hummed quietly and lightly swayed back and fourth to a song only she could hear. Mizuki still knew the tune. Mizuki loved this girl as well, her subtle support and dedication were a vital part of their life. She worked hard for their sake, yet struggled when it came to others. That was okay, Mizuki loved her after all.

As Mizuki stirred, she met the swaying girl’s gaze. Their greeting was unspoken, eyes trading more emotions than any sleepy “good morning” could convey between them. Sitting up let her cuddle into her side, interrupting her rhythm but letting the song swaddle them both. Their group’s newest project, one the two had heard more times than they could count while working on the MV. The two shared a quick kiss, mizuki drawing back with a giggle while the girl returned a gaze of love.

“It's nice to see you again, Hana.”

“I missed you…”

The had not seen each other in some time. Meetings like this woefully scarce. Times where they overlapped in a comfortable way less common than they’d like, but something they were getting a better handle on as time marched on.

Another kiss brought the next day’s plans to mind, the love the three shared not the only affection in Mizuki’s life. A date with Kanade and Ena; A new movie that held interest for both them and Ena had just reached the silver screen in Japan and they were eager to watch it, Kanade content to tag along and spend any time she could with the two.

“Maybe we should wake our resident sleeping beauty~”

Hana’s affirmative nod was all the support she needed to shift to her other side and give the girl a quick nudge, Hana returning to her dance for one.

Mizuki knew Hime was already awake, if not already from their link then from the ever-so-slight smile that broke the corner of Hime’s mouth. The girl certainly liked to play sometimes and Mizuki was happy to indulge.

“Alas! the maiden slumbers far too deeply! if only there were a lovely beautiful princess to plant a magical kiss upon her lips! Oh, wait, that would be me~”

Hime’s smile had grown by the time Mizuki wrapped up the theatrics and leaned down into a kiss that was only a little inappropriate for the atmosphere.

“Rise and shine, Hime. Ready to rock and roll today?”

“Mhm!”

Their faces were close, Mizuki could tell from the even breaths they shared that the girl was calm, her long rest chiseled away at the lingering panic from her last appearance until it was naught but dust and left her happy to play the part of Mizuki for the day.

Mizuki gave her a big, loving grin, but before she could respond in kind the world disappeared around her

And she woke up.

-

Hime wore a smile on her face as she rose from her bed, her real bed, and readied herself to play the part of Mizuki for the day.

It was easy enough for her to act as Mizuki did in most regards. Though key ingredients escaped her, their absences were filled by Hime’s individuality. It wasn't a part she loathed to play, not even close.

Her date today was something she was excited for, but a trepidation held her back from fully throwing herself to it. Her groupmates, the others’ girlfriends, were people she simply wasn’t able to love as they did. There were no marks against them to her, she simply wasn’t able to feel the same way towards them. She’d done her part in trying and all it brought her was discomfort. Today, however, this movie called to her much louder than the romantic dissonance dissuaded her. She could grit her teeth and bear with the feeling of lying for the sake of enjoying the film. She wasn't going to let the buzzing stress of navigating the relationships of the ones she loves ruin her movie day.

The rendezvous she had with Mizuki and Hana that morning was a good omen, a rare reaffirmation of their relationship and existences that always left whoever ended up in the hot seat with a happy heart and bolstered spirit. It was going to be a good day, she’d make sure of it.

Notes:

Mizuki absolutely would name her alters flower and princess, you can't change my mind.

Writing these is helping me sort through my own feelings a lot.

Notes:

An idea I wanted to work on for a couple days that was brought to the surface by, unsurprisingly, a dissociative panic.

Technically my second plural Mizuki fic but i didn't know i was or intend for it to be that way when I wrote "Someone Else's Happiness"

Thank you for reading this, I hope it can resonate with at least one person.
