Chapter Text

Once Katsuki heard the scream, he bolted in the direction of the sound, going through some weird passageway.

Everything felt hotter, which was odd since it was a fairly cold night. He turned a corner—then he saw him.

Shoto and a young boy were standing there, flames dancing around them.

Katsuki didn’t think. He just ran. He hugged Shoto—hugged him so tight, like if he let go, the universe would rip them apart once more.

“Katsuki?! What are you doing here? It’s not safe!” Shoto said, hugging him back.

“I came to save you! And… this random kid?” Katsuki looked over at Kade, who just stood there, not bothered by the flames.

“I’m Kade. You must be Shoto’s boyfriend.” He was expressionless, like Shoto… it bothered Katsuki.

“Katsuki. And I’m not his boyfriend…” Katsuki’s face flushed.

“Katsuki, we need to get out of here. As you can see, Enji set the house on fire…” Shoto stared at the floor. “I’m sorry you were dragged into my mess.”

Katsuki frowned. “Don’t be sorry… I probably would’ve tried to find you at the party anyway…”

Shoto looked up. “Why?”

“Well, uh… ’cause I might have had a huge crush on you when I saw you walk in…”

Shoto’s face flushed. “W-What? So that’s why you followed me…”

Shoto looked at the fire approaching.

“We need to go…”

Back upstairs—

“Shin, what do we do?! Katsuki is still downstairs, but there’s a shit ton of fire up here!” Denki was freaking out.

Enji stood holding the lighter, laughing maniacally. “Hahahahahahaha!!! You idiots fell right for my trap! If I can’t make Shoto a star, then you can’t have him as family!!!”

“You’re sick, Enji…” Izuku mumbled.

“What did you say, boy? I’m sick? Hah! No, no, no. I’m just protecting my son!” Enji looked and sounded angry.

“Killing your own son is protecting him?!” Izuku asked, his voice getting stronger.

“Yes, it is. ’Cause a fire looks like an accident.” Enji smirked.

“You’re fucked up in the head, Enji.” Izuku stared at him, looking disgusted.

Then Enji grabbed him, lifted him up, and dangled him over the flames.

“You don’t talk to me like that ever, boy!!!” Enji screamed.

Then Kirishima kicked Enji hard in the shins. “Put him down now!”

Enji flinched—it hurt more than he thought—so he lowered Izuku. Izuku instantly ran to Kirishima.

“That was scary! I’m terrified! We need to go!!!” They heard faint sirens in the distance… someone had called the police.

“Wait, who called the police?!” Shinso asked, sounding confused. Then Shoto, Katsuki, and Kade ran out from the basement.

“I did. Now we need to go.” Katsuki coughed—the smoke was getting to him.

The others nodded and ran to the door. Enji slammed the sliding door shut. Only Kade, Kirishima, and Izuku made it out, leaving the other four trapped in the flames.

“Enji, please!” Shoto pleaded.

“You wanted to die so bad—now’s your chance!!!” Enji shouted maniacally.

Katsuki coughed even more. So did the others. Enji smiled. “Bye-bye, Shoto.”

Then he himself started coughing—badly. So he ran to the other door and opened it… the police were outside. He was caught.

“Enji Todoroki, we have been informed you started this fire?” the officer said.

“What? No! I would never!!” He tried to look innocent, but he had the lighter in his hand.

“Yeah, no—you’re under arrest.” She cuffed him and shoved him into the car, making sure the door was locked.

Back inside—

Shoto looked around frantically for the key, but Enji had taken it.

Katsuki was sitting on the floor, coughing, trying to stay conscious—but he was barely breathing any actual air.

Denki was trying to pry open a window, but they were all painted shut.

Shinso was searching for a way out, but everything was locked.

So Shoto decided to break the window. He looked for something heavy and chucked it at the glass door, which shattered instantly.

Shoto rushed over, picked Katsuki up, and walked through the glass, ignoring the pain of the cuts. Shinso and Denki ran out behind them, and the others joined them.

“Shin! Denki! You’re okay!!” Kirishima ran over and hugged them.

“Yeah, but Kats is out…” Denki said, sounding worried.

“I’ll phone 911. I think Enji has been arrested already.” Izuku took his phone out.

Shoto laid Katsuki on the floor… he was barely breathing.

“He isn’t going to make it in time…” Shoto said, looking at the others helplessly.

“W-What?” They turned to look at Shoto.

“He isn’t breathing properly…” Shoto stared at Katsuki. “I can’t let him die after he saved my life. I can’t let him down!” His voice was filled with pain, his eyes with tears… this was the first time his mask had cracked and he had let himself feel.

“Wait, Sho! You did a medical course in high school—you know how to do mouth-to-mouth, right?!” Shinso asked, looking slightly less panicked than Izuku, who was on the phone with the paramedics—who were apparently ten minutes away.

Shoto nodded slowly. “Yeah, I can…” He tilted Katsuki’s head up slightly, closed his nose, and gave him two slow breaths, then checked if he was breathing… he continued this until Katsuki breathed normally.

“You did it!” Denki said, sounding happy but still shaken. Then Kade ran over and hugged Shoto.

“Hey, kid! You’re okay!” Shoto said, smiling.

“You’re hurt!” Kade said, pointing at the cuts from the glass.

“I’ve had worse…” Shoto ruffled his hair.

“Kiri, could you take Kade to the car so he can sleep, please? He’s been up all night…” Shoto asked.

Kirishima nodded. “Sure, man.” He took Kade’s hand and walked him to the car.

Katsuki’s eyes opened shortly after. “Shoto?” He looked around—the house still burning in front of them.

“Katsuki!!” Shoto rushed over, ignoring the officer questioning him.

“What happened?” Katsuki asked.

“You stopped breathing… I saved you like you saved me.” Shoto smiled at him.

“Thank you.” Katsuki smiled back.

Then Izuku ran over with paramedics.

“Over here! These four people were in the house for a long period of time!” Izuku was out of breath.

They got to the hospital and were discharged within a few hours.

The sky was getting brighter slowly. Shinso and Denki sat in the waiting room while Katsuki and Shoto had snuck up to the roof.

“Hey, Katsuki… can I ask you something?” Shoto stared at him.

“Mhm?” Katsuki looked over at him.

“Do you maybe wanna go out with me?” Shoto fiddled with his sleeves, trying not to meet Katsuki’s eyes.

“Yeah, I’d love that…” Katsuki blushed, then moved closer. So did Shoto.

“Wild day, huh?” Katsuki asked.

“Yeah. I’m just happy Enji is gone…” Shoto turned to face Katsuki, and slowly the two kissed—but the moment was interrupted by Keigo and Touya rushing up to the roof.

“Fucking hell, too many stairs!!” Keigo announced.

“Hey, lil bro—oh shit, bad time.” Touya smirked, then led Keigo back down the stairs.

Katsuki laughed. “I love your family.”

“Our family.” Shoto smiled.

“Yeah… our family.” Katsuki repeated.

“We should go down. My dads must be worried.” Katsuki nodded, and the two walked down the fifteen million flights of stairs.

Once they made it to the ground floor, Aizawa and Mic rushed over to them.

“My goodness! I’m so glad you’re both okay!!” Mic said, hugging them both.

“Hi, Papa. We’re fine—but are you and Dad okay?” Shoto asked.

“Yeah, we are fine, Sho.” Aizawa said, ruffling the boy’s hair.

“Oh, who’s that?” Shoto pointed to Tamaki, who was carrying a very sleepy-looking Eri.

“Ah, Tamaki! Come meet my son!” Aizawa said.

“Last one, I swear.” Mic joked.

Tamaki walked over. “H-Hi. I’m Tamaki. Nice to meet you…”

“I’m Shoto.” Shoto smiled at him. “And that’s Katsuki—my friend.”

Katsuki held out his hand for Tamaki to shake. “Boyfriend, actually.”

“Cool!” Tamaki smiled.

“Oh—not to ruin the reunion, but we all gotta hit the road if we wanna make it to our flight,” Keigo said.

They got off the plane and grabbed their bags.

“Finally home!” Touya said.

“Can’t wait to sleep in our bed!!” Keigo said, squeezing Touya’s hand.

Tamaki stood next to them, smiling a little.

“You excited to see your friend?” Touya asked.

“Y-Yeah…” They stepped out, and Tamaki scanned the crowd, looking for Mirio. But he didn’t need to—because the blond was already rushing toward him, and before he could say anything, he was being hugged.

“Hi! I missed you, sunshine!” Mirio said. And again, before Tamaki could say anything, Mirio kissed him.

“Oh shit, uh—too much?! I’m sor—”

Tamaki kissed him back.

“I never said I didn’t like it…” Tamaki took his hand and led him to the others.

“This is Mirio…” Tamaki said, looking shy.

“Hi! You must be Tamaki’s family!!”

Aizawa nodded. “Yep. He’s our son.”

“Since when?” Mirio asked, genuinely curious.

“Two days ago.” Touya said, smiling.

“You must be Touya. And you’re Keigo, right? I remember you from the FaceTime call.” Mirio smiled.

“Heyo!! Yup, that’s us!!” Keigo smiled too—it was almost infectious.

They got home, and everyone collapsed into bed… everyone except Denki and Shinso.

“Huh…” Denki stared at Shinso.

“What are you thinking about?” Shinso asked.

“You… and me, and our future together.” Denki looked serious.

“Well, I like that thought… Tell me about it.”

“We get a house close to here, adopt four cats and a kid, and be a family. We paint the fence purple and yellow, decorate with what we love—make it imperfectly perfect… like us.” Denki kissed Shinso on the cheek.

“I love that. But I think… I love you more.” Shinso said, looking up at Denki.

“Can I kiss you?” Denki blurted out.

“Yeah. I’d like that.” The two kissed, holding each other in their arms while they did.

It felt right… everything was falling into place.

(Five years later)

Shoto opened the door and headed straight to the fridge for alcohol. He needed to numb his pain.

Katsuki looked up as he walked in—and immediately fell for Shoto.

He walked over to the fridge. “Hey, you look beautiful… Would you like to dance?”

Shoto stood there, the faraway look fading as he stared at Katsuki’s outstretched hand—and took it.

“Sure…” he mumbled.

Katsuki smiled and led him to the dance floor. They danced together perfectly. It felt so natural… like they were meant to be…

Then Katsuki woke up, gasping for air.

He looked at Shoto beside him, who was opening his eyes.

“Nightmare?” Shoto asked, turning on the lamp.

“No… no, this dream was good…” Katsuki hugged Shoto.

“Uh huh? Well, I’m happy you’re alright, baby.” Shoto rubbed his back gently and switched the light off.

They drifted into a peaceful sleep, the rest of their beautiful family in the houses down the street. Everything was tied together by love and safety.
