Chapter Text
Acoite dug through a box containing several different card games and found something that caught his eyes, a colorful box!
Uno...Flip?
Acoite is quite familiar with Uno, but he has never heard of this before!
How intriguing
He took it out to inspect it closer and tried to figure out how this version of UNO works
Alright, it has all the standard colors and wild card like you would expect, but wait-both sides have different numbers on them? How are you supposed to play UNO when your opponent can see your cards! That would make bluffing more difficult...
As the name suggests, the gimmick of this particular version is the “flip” mechanic. Once the "flip card" is placed down, you flip your card to the other side and continue to play with the new colors.
“Theodore?” Acoite called out
“Yes?” Theodore set his glass on the coffee table
“I want to play this” Acoite took the cards and placed them down on the floor. In the middle of their living room.
. . .
Unfortunately for Acoite, all good things must end
Little did he know, Death was knocking on their door
Literally speaking
At least he has the decency to knock this time
Acoite got up from the floor and trudged to the door
“What was that you said? The grim reaper does not knock” Acoite said, mockingly
“The grim reaper is not a mannerless cat”
The two exchange glares with each other, before Theodore got up to diffuse the tension
“Right, why don’t you join us for a couple rounds? We’re playing UNO”
“Your hospitality is greatly appreciated” Death grinned, walking in without sparing Acoite a second look
. . . .
Theodore placed down a +2 card, understandable, perfectly reasonable
But now, it’s Acoite turn. What will he do?
Of course, Acoite placed down another +2 card
Wait what?
“You can’t just do THAT!” Death snarled
“Yeah, duh I can, it’s how the game work” Acoite answered
“it’s not in the rules” he argued
“House rules, cry about it”
Theodore drew 4 cards and slide it over to death, who begrudgingly accepted it
. . .
Now, we all know how these kinds of games usually end
Violence.
They were in the middle of an intense match with only a few cards left in their hands.
It’s time...
Acoite thought
To be evil
Acoite placed down a +2 card
Theodore follow suit with another +2
Death however, put down a double +2
What a fool
He thought he could get the master of boardgame, Acj’oebc’titep with such a simple trick? Acoite know Theodore still have another +2 from the previous rounds, but death has ran out of +2 cards
heh...time to put an end to all of this
Acoite placed down both of his +2 cards
Theodore followed with a +2
It’s Death’s turn
“Looks like you ran out of luck, Death”
But death does not seem phased
“I haven’t a slightest clue what you are talking about, Acoite”
What?
“Why, I don’t need luck when I have something you don’t” Death continued
“What are you TALKING about” Acoite have a bad feeling
“It’s skills”
Death put down his last +2 card
The whole room went quiet...
. . .
. . . .
Acoite lunged at Death to Strangle him “YOU SLY BASTARD”
Death fought back, kicking and rolling wildly
“It’s NOT MY fault you’re just BAD! Get OFF!” He attempted to pry Acoite off him
Theodore got up from where they’re sitting and tried to calm them down, then suddenly-
(CRASH)
Oh no
The coffee table, amidst the chaos, was knocked over, which consequentially cause the glass to fall down and hit the hard floor below
The pair turned to look at Theodore
Acoite flattened his ears
“Uh oh”
After a lecture from Professor Theodore-octave Anzieu and being forced to clean up, Tonight’s boardgame session came to an end.
Sending Death off, Acoite turned back to Theodore
“That was fun, we should do this more often”
“Absolutely not.”
