Chapter Text
’There you go! Almost got it!’
Second stretched their hand up further, desperately trying to reach the volleyball stuck just a few centimetres from their fingertips. Leaves rustled against their arm as the wind swayed the tree branch, but the ball stayed firmly in place – as did Green’s cap that was previously thrown in an attempt to knock the former down.
’Come on! Just a bit further!’ Red called from the court below. Second snapped to glare down at him, opening their mouth for a quick retort, but the sudden movement disturbed their balance on Blue’s shoulders and caused the already tedious tower of campers to wobble dangerously.
Yellow, who was at the bottom, let out a grunt as he steadied his grip on Blue’s legs. Blue in turn kept Second from falling, and the tower stabilised. Second – deciding it’d be better if they didn’t chew their friend out just now – looked up and went back to grabbing for the ball.
’Why don’t you come up here, Red?’ Blue hissed through gritted teeth, arms locked around Second’s legs to keep them in place. ‘It’s your fault it got stuck there in the first place.’
The boy in question crossed his arms and gave the brunette girl an eye roll.
‘I’m not the one off at gymnastics or basketball every afternoon!’
‘Yeah, but you were the one who insisted on killing my lungs yesterday on the mountain.’ Green snarked, glaring at Red.
‘Hey, the instructor said to take the hike at a fast pace-’
‘ That doesn’t mean run- ’
‘ You’re just slow- ’
‘Sec! Couldn’t you try pulling down the branch?’ Purple called, interrupting the other two’s bickering.
Second paused. Why hadn’t they thought of that? Taking care not to knock the others off balance, they pulled on the lowest limb of the branch and moved the whole thing slowly down. They reached up and dislodged the volleyball, letting it fall to the ground.
Everyone let out a cheer – though, in some cases it was more of a wheeze – and Second grinned before grabbing Green’s hat as well and placing it on their head.
‘Hey, that’s mine!’ Green yelled from below.
Second stuck their tongue out.
‘ ‘S mine now!’
Then Blue tensed.
‘Uhhh… Yellow? You good?’ she questioned, glancing down.
‘Sorry,’ he squeaked.
‘ WOAAHH! ’
‘ WATCH OUT!- ’
‘ Holy sh- ’
‘SECOND ! ’
