Chapter Text

04; Apologies

Her blood freezes into her veins one more time, feeling trapped once more into the clutches of another beast.
The wood elf can’t move, as if she’s paralysed for several moments, before feeling his arm drag her to the ground, pinning her down with his knee over her hip.
« Sh, sh, sh. Not a sound. »
The man whispers, keeping the blade to her throat, so she can’t move; his grip on her shoulder is a bit stronger than she expected, when she tries to extricate from his grasp, trying to disarm him.
« Not if you want to keep that darling neck of yours. I saw you on the ship. You're in league with those freaks, aren't you? Don’t dare to lie to me, those tentacled — »

Is an instant, her mind goes blank from all of her memories, as if the sharpest of the blades splits her head, hitting right into her brain…
She can see Home, into the dim light of the night and a pang hits her brain, her heart; she can see the Lower City, looking out with unfamiliar eyes a world that does not belong to her: prowling dark, busy taverns, and other places that she can’t recognise… rooms, secluded ways, maybe…? She tries to hold the memories, but they fade to the worm, the light, the fear… focusing solely on her heartbeat.
The young elf needs to take a deep sigh, before extricating herself from his grip taking advantage of that strange vision, and when she’s finally on her feet again, her fingers moving, a light flame appears on her palm.

« What was that? What is going on?! What you did to me!? »
The man asked once more, shouting letting her heart racing into her chest, some of the flames on her fingers hit the ground, the moment she responds to him.
« Easy, you idiot! — she snaps, shouting as well, rage on her face — They snatched me up too! Do I look like one of them?! One of the damn freaks?! »

The man flinches when the wood-elf shouts, stepping back seeing the flames leaking out from her fingers, raising his hand mimicking to calm herself down.
Her breath itches onto her throat, on the verge of the tears.
« They — the mind flayers put a damn worm into my head, and I think they did the same to you as well. I… I think it connected us. »
She says, gesturing just above her eye, shuddering at the mere thought, the flame still living and cracking on her palm, and her intents are to keep it alive, until that blade is still glistening on his hand; his eyes still fixed on her form, as do hers.

« Th — the worm, of course, that explains things… you’re… not one of them. They took you. Just the same as me… I saw that, into my mind. »
The man’s voice is calmer now, taking a full minute to study her, seeking any sign of lying oh her words, her gaze, and all he can find is just… fear, and exhaustion. His mind tries to understand what is going on, and most important, why. A sigh escapes his lips, the moment he speaks once more.
« And to think I was ready to decorate the ground with your innards. Apologies. »

“ Oh, he tries to be the funny one, now? ”
One of her eyebrows raise at his sentence, letting her mind racing with multiple questions, despite her heart, that seems a bit more calmer now: her gaze still following his moves, noticing when he lowered his blade, putting it into its shell.
« Yeah, yeah… apologies accepted. »
Her answer is more quiet, visibly relaxed; the flames on her hand disappear with a swing of her fingers, the same way as they appear.

Notes:

As usual, thank you so much for reading. 💖

I decided to kept some of the Narrator's lines (Amelia did an amazing job), but I need to warn you, some of the lines will change, Astarion's included.
From now on, the story focuses on the two of them; in my runs I always recruit all of the companions, Minthara included, so they will might appear in the background. I take this decision, otherwhise the story became too long, lmao (I still don't know how many chapters will be, sigh...).

Thanks again,
Luna ~ ✨

Notes:

PS: I'm not sure about the title, lmao.
