Chapter Text
"Alright. Merrow, pick out the best bakery here"
The cat ran around from bakery to a bakery, sniffing each one, before settling on the first she went up to.
Manye smiled and picked up Merrow, letting her sit on his shoulder, and entered the bakery.
Needless to say, no one was happy to see the Trash here, but they can't just kick him out, he's the Count's son.
"Hello. How much will it cost to buy all the bread you have?"
The cashier was silent for a moment, before getting out of his stupor and hastily replying with "A-ah.. it's.. it will be 5 silver coins.."
Manye furrowed his brows. He didn't really get deep into this world's currency, but 5 silvers sounds like not much.
He sighs and puts 5 silvers on the table.
"Now, hurry up and pack it into something"
A few minutes later, the cashier gave him a bag full of bread, and Manye realised he needs to start training.
As they left the bakery, he sighed.
"Merrow, please remind me to start training when we get home."
Manye looked around and went into the direction where he supposed the slums where.
On the way, he did not see any cats. Or red haired and sliver haired kids.
After half an hour of wandering around, Manye finally noticed where the tree is.
He went up the hill and approached the tree. Manye looked at the dark hole for a moment before dumping the bread bag.
The colour barely changed, but the fact that he noticed the slight change made him wonder about something.
"Merrow.. could it be that my senses are more uhm.. enchanced than they were? I only now started wondering about it, but how did I feel footsteps? Not only heard, but also felt?"
Merrow chose to stay silent. He doesn't like how this cat is always silent on questions like that.
Manye went back to the town. Now that he is finally outside, he should probably walk around, explore. He knows for sure he is not going back any time soon, or at all. At least he doesn't want to.
The town was pretty quiet, but not completely. People were talking over some food, birds looking for mates, carriages pass by once in a while.
The weather wasn't perfect, but Manye loved it that way. A bit of fog but not too much, a bit of clouds, and yet the sun was still visible. He smiled.
While he was walking around, he got an idea. He wanted to test his alcohol resistance.
---
His outing ended with a knight being sent to Manye's location to get him home safe.
It's not that he was particularly drunk, it's the way this body behaves. Turning so red at the slightest hint or alcohol.
Keeping up the act of being drunk proved difficult. He wonders how Cale did it.
Did he start with bas acting and overtime got good? Or is he just a natural actor?
Did he attend any classes before his mother died? Did he like his mother? Was his mother anything like Manye's?
He looked at the knight that's helping him. Does he know? Maybe he should spew some absolutely random bullshit to make him uncomfortable. "Did you know my mother?"
The knight immediately stumbled over, caught off guard by that question.
It was laughable how uncomfortable people get when you mention the dead.
