Your Reflection

Chapter 5: The Only Woman

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Lucy was still standing in the center of the space, completely motionless. The blindfold now rested in her hand, and the silence echoed inside her.

The mirrors surrounded her like a living frame. Her multiplied reflection stared back at her from every angle — and still, she felt small. Unarmed. And somehow... seen for the first time.

She turned her face slowly and found Tim, standing just a few steps away, watching her as if she were everything he’d ever searched for.

His eyes were glassy, but his smile was soft, certain. A smile that didn’t demand anything. A smile that simply said: it’s you. It’s always been you.

Lucy took a deep breath.

Her eyes began to fill, despite how hard she tried to keep them dry.

She took a hesitant step, her feet echoing against the wooden floor.

Another.

And then she was in front of him. So close she could feel the warmth of his skin, his familiar scent, the peace he brought even in the middle of chaos.

Tim didn’t move. He let her take all the time she needed.

Lucy raised her hand, slowly, and placed it on his chest, right over his heart.

— You love me? — she asked in a whisper barely audible.

Tim lifted his hand and brushed away a strand of hair that had fallen across her face.

— I can’t remember a time I didn’t love you. — he said hoarsely. — And I tried. For a long time. Because I thought loving you would push you away. That it would ruin everything.

She bit her lip, tears now falling silently.

— And now?

— Now I can’t pretend anymore. And it’s okay if you don’t feel the same. I just... couldn’t keep it in anymore. You deserved to know.

Lucy shook her head, like she was trying to catch her breath.

— I spent so long thinking this was just friendship… Thinking it was a phase, that it would pass. But it didn’t. It got worse. It grew. It took over everything.

She raised both hands now, holding his face between her palms.

— And you have no idea how much it hurt to imagine you loving someone else.

Tim smiled, even with tears in his eyes.

— I’ve only ever loved one person in my entire life. — he said. — And she’s right here, holding me like she’s afraid I’ll disappear.

Lucy laughed through her tears and let her face get closer.

So close their noses almost touched.

So close he could feel the trembling in her breath.

— I love you too, Tim. — she whispered. — And I have no idea how I was so stupid for so long.

He closed his eyes for a moment, taking in those words like someone finally finding shelter after years in the storm.

And then, gently, he pulled her into him.

The kiss was slow. Tender. No rush. No doubt.

It was a kiss of recognition. Of reunion. Of everything they no longer had to hide.

And in the mirrors around them, the reflection of two once-lonely hearts now met — multiplied in every direction.

They stayed there, wrapped in each other’s arms, while the world spun outside. The park, the laughter, the lights. None of it mattered.

Because they had, finally, found each other.

The morning dawned bright, with the kind of gentle sunlight that seems tailor-made for happy days.

There were flowers scattered across the green field where white chairs were arranged in perfect rows. A wooden arch wrapped in ivy and hanging lights framed the altar at the back, and there, at the front of it all, stood Tim Bradford.

Wearing a light gray suit and staring blankly down the entry aisle, he nervously ran his fingers over the button of his jacket, trying to hide the way his heart was pounding out of control. Kojo, with a tiny blue bow tie attached to his collar, sat beside him — as quiet and attentive as his owner.

Beside Tim, Angela adjusted the hem of her emerald green dress with military precision.

— Breathe, big guy. — she said with a smile. — You’ve survived shootouts, car chases, collapsing buildings. You’ll survive your own wedding.

— It’s different. — Tim muttered. — Shootouts don’t make me cry.

Angela laughed.

— Brace yourself. Because the moment she walks in… you will.

And he knew it. Because just thinking about her made everything inside him light up.

On the other side, in a small house set up as a bridal room, Lucy stared into the mirror. The white dress was simple, with delicate sleeves and a slight opening in the back. Her loose hair fell in soft waves, tucked on one side with a star-shaped clip.

She was radiant. And terrified.

Tamara adjusted the veil, her eyes shining.

— How many times do you think you’ll say “I love you” today? Take a guess.

— A hundred? — Lucy laughed, but her eyes welled up. — Maybe a thousand. It’ll never be enough.

— And are you ready?

Lucy thought for a moment.

She remembered every version of Tim she had known: the grumpy friend, the loyal partner, the tireless protector… and the man who had loved her in silence before she even realized her own heart.

— I am. — she said finally. — I’ve waited my whole life for him. Even when I didn’t know it.

Tamara hugged her tightly.

— Then go. He’s there. Waiting to say it back.

The music began. A violin played a soft melody as the guests rose to their feet.

And when Lucy entered, Tim lost his breath.

She walked slowly, each step a heartbeat in his chest. Her eyes met his, and in that moment, the entire world seemed to fall silent. There was no more music, no crowd, no sun. Just them.

Tim felt his eyes sting and blinked fast.

Lucy smiled sweetly.

Yes, you can cry now, her look said.

She reached him, and even before the officiant could say anything, Tim held her hand.

— You look beautiful. — he whispered.

— So do you. — she replied. — And you're trembling.

— I'm dying.

— I'm alive because of you.

They smiled. And only after that did the ceremony begin.

The officiant spoke about companionship, about love as a choice and not just a feeling. And then came the time for the vows. They had promised not to write anything — said they would let their hearts speak.

Lucy took a deep breath and began:

— You’ve always been my mirror, Tim.

You showed me who I was when I couldn’t see.

You saw me when no one else did.

You loved me in silence, in waiting, in care.

And I promise to never make you wait again.

I promise to love you with urgency, with presence.

I promise to remember all we’ve been… until the end of all we’ll become.

Tim closed his eyes tightly, struggling not to fall apart.

He touched her face with his fingertips before speaking:

— When I brought you to that park, I thought it was the biggest declaration of love of my life.

But now I know my biggest gesture of love is being here.

Choosing you.

Promising to never let you be alone again.

You are my best friend, my partner, my home.

And I don’t remember a time I didn’t love you.

Maybe because loving you… has always been what made me me.

The rings were exchanged with trembling fingers and tearful eyes. And when the officiant finally said “you may kiss the bride,” Tim smiled like he never wanted to stop.

He held her face in both hands, just like he had done that night in the mirror, and whispered:

— Still you. Always will be.

The kiss was intense. Tender. The kind of kiss that says everything words can’t contain.

Hours later, at the reception, guests danced, toasted, and shared funny stories. In a quiet corner of the venue, a small space decorated with flowers and white fabrics held a special detail: a huge mirror, surrounded by tiny lights, like the one in the amusement park maze.

Lucy and Tim walked past it hand in hand. She stopped in front of the mirror and smiled.

— Still remember this?

— Like it was today.

She turned to him.

— It was in that moment I knew. When I saw myself in that mirror… I saw myself through your eyes. And it was the first time I truly felt whole.

Tim hugged her from behind, looking at their reflection together.

— And now?

— Now I don’t have to look alone anymore.

He kissed the top of her head.

— Because you’ll never be alone again.

And there, reflected in the mirror, were Tim and Lucy.

Two hearts that had spent a lifetime searching for each other.

And who, finally, were ready to live — hand in hand — everything love still had to reflect.

And just like that, we wrap up this story. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.
Thank you for all the love, and I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on this ending.
