‘Here, take a gander at this, Link.’ Mikau whispered and held out his most prized possession.
“Fishy…” Link whispered.
‘That’s right. I’m Fishy. Now, c’mon, give it a burl,’ Mikau said, holding out his guitar.
Link brushed his fingers against the bones, making a flux of sounds. He sniffled loudly. From Mikau’s ghostly lap, he looked up at the Zora and quietly requested approval.
‘Neat huh? Wanna help me play a song now?’
Link wiped his tears away and whimpered before nodding.
‘Rad! Alright, bub, watch closely now. You’re going to play this special note twice, okay?’
Mikau pointed up at the higher part of his guitar.
‘Alright, let’s try it out first.’
Mikau strummed it first, a comforting note. Link copied it.
‘Yeah, that’s it! Alright, I’m going to play 2 notes, and you’ll play the note you just did, okay?’
Mikau filtered through the notes of the Song of Time from the few times Link and him played them together.
“Hurt?”
Link looked up at him in utter horror.
Oh…right.
‘Naw, Link, we ain’t going to play it together this time, okay? So it won’t hurt. Promise.’
Link whimpered.
‘C’mon, let’s try it out now.’
Mikau strummed the two beginning notes. Goddess, he hopes this works.
‘Alright, your turn.’
Link, the smart boy that he was, plucked the note he was asked to play.
‘Aw yeah. Good job, Guppy!’ and Mikau blushed.
Oh, he wasn’t even tryin’ to call him that, but when Link eagerly looked up at him, with a shy smile on his face, it felt right. Oh Goddess, the kid was arguably cute.
‘A-alright, let’s do it again,’ he grinned, ‘Ready?’
Link nodded again, with that little smile growing bigger.
Mikau strummed his two notes. ‘Alright, Guppy. It’s your turn.’
Link plucked his note. The Gibdo moans, flickering of flames, and droplets of water dissipated, and the darkness was replaced with the familiar white and kaleidoscope of clocks surrounding them as they fell.
‘Holy shit, that worked?’
Mikau found Link floating back next to him, who looked a bit scared. Mikau grabbed his hand, feeling the warmth from it a little more intensely now.
“Don’t be scared, it’ll be alright,” Mikau smiled.
He suddenly looked up, feeling warmed by some enormous and...beautiful entity.
