Never-Ending Pain. Well, At Least Until This Guy Came Along

Chapter 2: Unexpected Cuddling

Summary:

A few weeks had passed of the company relentlessly watching over Kim Dokja (Mostly Yoo Joonghyuk), making sure he wouldn’t accidentally hurt himself again. Even the smallest little things that actually happened to Kim Dokja were treated as if he got a major injury, such as a papercut being treated like his finger was cut off. Kim Dokja insisted he didn’t need anyone’s supervision, as he was a grown adult and could watch himself. But obviously the company didn’t buy this excuse. They all knew in the past, Kim Dokja would usually walk straight to his death. (literally)

Finally, Kim Dokja gets a break.

Chapter Text

“Haah, finally. Some peace and quiet,” Kim Dokja muttered out to himself, sitting at his desk. Sure, having the company by his side was comforting and enjoyable, but sometimes he just needs some time alone. Kim Dokja pulled out a book from his bookshelf that he was currently reading at that moment. When the company had first moved into the house, Yoo Sangah and Han Sooyoung prepared a personal bookshelf filled to the brim with books that they thought Kim Dokja would enjoy reading. So far, Kim Dokja has read almost half of all the books in the span of 6 months. Approx. 1 book per day, or 1 book per 2 days if he was busy.

Kim Dokja flipped to the page where he left off previously, and started reading. He started feeling a bit odd, but he ignored it and continued reading. About fifteen minutes had passed, and Kim Dokja was feeling an unsettling feeling from his chest..it was familiar. Maybe this is his sign to stop isolating himself too much.

He knew what this feeling was like the back of his hand. The empty, dark void in his chest he could never fill. It stung in a way that isn't tangible, yet Kim Dokja sometimes still found comfort in this feeling. He sat in his chair, dazed in his own thoughts for a while, until he snapped out of it when someone opened his bedroom door. He flinched at the sound, immediately turning his head over to look at who it possibly could be visiting him during this time of night. It was Yoo Joonghyuk. Of course it was. Everyone else in the company was usually asleep by now. (Besides Sooyoung, that woman is like a nocturnal cat)

“It’s 2:32, go to bed Kim Dokja,” Yoo Joonghyuk stated, glaring at Kim Dokja, arms crossed.

“What am I, a child?” Kim Dokja smirked. Yoo Joonghyuk’s glare seemed to darken at his words.

Yoo Joonghyuk let out a long, deep sigh and walked over to Kim Dokja and muttered something along the lines of “fool.” He grabbed the collar of Dokja’s shirt and dragged him over to his bed. With a little bit of struggle, of course.

“Hey! Bastard let me go!” Kim Dokja tried to escape this grasp, but to no avail. He ended up on the bed anyway. Yoo Joonghyuk grabbed a chair and sat down next to Kim Dokja’s bed.

“..You gonna sit here all night?”

Yoo Joonghyuk didn’t answer, he just sat there, looking stern—until he finally nodded, albeit slowly. After Yoo Joonghyuk made it quite clear he wasn’t going to be leaving any time soon, Kim Dokja decided to just go to bed.

It didn’t take long for him to fall asleep knowing Yoo Joonghyuk was in the room with him, it made him feel comfortable enough to fall asleep in less than 30 minutes, which is quite impressive for Kim Dokja. On average, it would take him around an hour or two to fall asleep. The silence between the two wasn’t uncomfortable, it was rather pleasant and calming.

Kim Dokja hadn’t even noticed this himself until now, but he felt that the aching in his chest ceased completely. Did it seem like it stopped the second Joonghyuk walked into his room? Probably a coincidence, it had to be.

When Kim Dokja woke up, he felt something warm around him. He opened his eyes slightly to find that there were arms holding him by his waist. But, whose arms were these—Ah. It hit Kim Dokja right smack in the face. The person holding him in their arms was none other than Yoo Joonghyuk, who was still sleeping soundly.

Gee, he smells good. Like freshly washed laundry.

Kim Dokja gave himself a mental smack as he felt his cheeks flushing.

Well, besides that.. This was unexpected, that’s for sure. The tips of Kim Dokja’s ears grew a light red. He didn’t dare move, fearing that he would wake the other. Kim Dokja could only stay still, in hopes of falling back asleep so he wouldn’t have to deal with the awkwardness between him and Yoo Joonghyuk if he were to wake him up.

The good thing is, Kim Dokja did actually fall back asleep. While the two were still glued to each other, sleeping comfortably, it was getting later and later into the day. The company hadn’t seen either of them for awhile now, so they all decided to send Han Sooyoung off to check on them.

It ended up as a horrible decision..

Han Sooyoung begrudgingly treaded up the stairs, heading towards Yoo Joonghyuk’s room.

“Hey idiot! Usually you’re up much earlier than this!” She called out into the room, but no response was heard. Han Sooyoung grew annoyed and stormed over to the bed, pulling off the covers to find an empty bed. She immediately came to the conclusion that he had snuck off somewhere stupid again in the middle of the night, and would return soon. Now it was time to see where that other bastard went. She closed the door behind her after leaving Yoo Joonghyuk’s room, and headed towards Kim Dokja’s.

Upon the opening of Kim Dokja’s door, she immediately halted when she saw that Yoo Joonghyuk was basically clinging onto Kim Dokja. She laughed quietly and snuck a photo of the two cuddling in their sleep, then quickly fled the scene.

“So Han Sooyoung, where did those two go..?” Yoo Sangah asked. With nothing else to respond with, Han Sooyoung showed her the photo she took of the two snuggling closely. Yoo Sangah’s eyes widened a little and she let out a giggle.

When Kim Dokja woke up, he was alone in bed. Remembering what occurred earlier, his face flushed again. Why in the world was Yoo Joonghyuk out of all people—cuddling him? Kim Dokja was a little distraught, panicking internally. The first thing that he thought of was if he liked men. Why? Even he’s not sure himself. Did he even like men? Has he ever considered being in a relationship with one? Oh god, he would have to face Yoo Joonghyuk later too eventually. Maybe he should just avoid him all day. What time even was it right now?? Turning his head over to the clock sitting on his nightstand, it read 3:12 pm. Wait–3:12 pm?? He slept that long?

Letting out a disappointed sigh, he walked towards his bathroom to get ready for the day.

. . .

. . .

. . .

All Yoo Joonghyuk could think of all day since he awoke was the extremely stupid decision he made last night. God, what was he on? He just had to internally pray Kim Dokja didn’t find out and act casual around him, since he woke up first. Yoo Joonghyuk was a bit tense all day long, he flinched a little every time he came into contact with Kim Dokja. For some reason, the other company members were giggling at him a lot. He simply glared back.

. . .

. . .

. . .

At dinner, it was lively as usual. Yoo Joonghyuk did the cooking, Lee Gilyoung and Shin Yoosung were arguing as always, Kim Dokja was chatting with Han Sooyoung, and the rest of the company were eating, or in the living room doing whatever.

After Yoo Joonghyuk finished cooking, everyone sat and started eating. Everything was normal until Han Sooyoung finally decided to break the ice.

“So, everyone. Take a look at the photo I took earlier today!” She said with absolutely zero hesitation, 100% pettiness. She pulled her phone out, showing the photo of Kim Dokja and Yoo Joonghyuk clinging to each other in bed. Lee Jihye stifled a laugh, at the sight of this. Yoo Joonghyuk glared at her and Han Sooyoung while Kim Dokja’s face grew redder than a tomato.

Safe to say dinner that night was definitely quite something.
