Chapter Text
'' Hum… This is nice.''
Carlos looked at his boss. It already been a few days since the kittens had been introduced to their organisation and yet, fight still recurrently occurred on ‘’who get’s to pet the kittens’’. Well, the eastern district had tried to find a system on who get to keep which kittens on which days of the week, but it hardly worked when Nazuna literally refused to let go of one (the cuddly one, if Carlos recalled well) and one of the small cats was literally always sleeping, not making it a really entertaining cat-sitting material. But has he and Gitarin slowly walked to his boss apartment, that sleeping kitten was resting in his boss arms. The way Gitarin was stroking the animal fur reminded Carlos of all the clichés James Bond villain and yet, it fitted him perfectly. Wondering what was going on in his boss head, Carlos said:
''What, it can’t be that nice to caress this kitten, jefe, unless you want to share…''
Gitarin had a slight laugh, before looking at Carlos. Carlos always felt both very important and very small when he looked at him and that was why the regard of his boss always made him feel so nervous…
''I didn’t mean it like that. I meant this, us walking together, after the job, with no one around… This is nice.''
Gitarin had the most adorable little smirk on his lips and it was doing things to Carlos heart. And yet, he couldn’t lose face here. He had to show what he had to say too:
''I mean; we can be alone too later if you want…''
This time, the smile on Gitarin lips was a full blown smirk. Carlos felt his boss eyes travel his body and felt a kick shiver run through him. The way the other looked at him should be illegal, already it was doing things to him that should not be allowed. And yet, here was Gitarin getting closer to him, leaning in and whispering in his ear:
''… We can be alone now, if you want…''
And like it was nothing, he felt a hand coming to grab his ass.
…
He had to draw the line somewhere:
'' Corazon, I know we’re alone, but we’re in public.''
'' I don’t see what you’re talking about.''
''There’s an innocent kitten here.''
''An innocent kitten that is sleeping.''
''You are insatiable…''
''I didn’t see you complaining last night.''
''Not in public Gitarin…''
''Oh? Using this name this time? May I remind you, my name is….''
''Myricaria Mitochondria Powerhouse of the cell Edward Gitarin Sideris, yes you said it when you got into work earlier. The ‘’powerhouse of the cell’’ part is still not funny, even if we’re a bunch of criminal and you’re our boss…''
''So if you do admit that all we have do is illegal, why do you find the idea of public display of affection so embarrassing?''
Carlos looked elsewhere, wanting to avoid his boss eyes. This was a matter of principle; he couldn’t make the other man see how flustered he was. And boy, his cheeks were on fire. He didn’t know how Gitarin always managed to catch him in this game, but one thing was sure, he didn’t want to stop playing…
But it was a matter of principle once again. This was his boss and he had to protect him. There was this tin line between business and romance and it was something difficult to walk over it.
''Ok. But we’re both keeping our guns on our person and it’s nothing more than a quickie! I trust you to watch my back and I watch yours. Promise, you can all of me later, mi media naranja…''
Carlos didn’t have quite the time to finish his sentence that a pair of lips crashed on his, shutting him up.
Yeah, his boss could be annoying, but as Gitarin was guiding him a little more to the side, Carlos could not help but to think that this was worth it.
Unknown to the world, a little kitten that had been carefully placed on the ground continued sleeping while two of its owners were doing the nasty in some back alley.
Apparently, this fandom needs porn, so there’s that.
Nazuna looked at the man patting the kitten in front of her.
It had become an habit after work to drop by a certain meeting place just to wait for a certain man to appear. And without fail, Yakumo Amagiri would show up. And then one exchange would take place: Nazuna would hand the small kitten she was carrying in her arms to the killer and Yakumo would pet it until they both had to go their respective way. Sometimes, Yakumo would escort Nazuna to the eastern district before running away. Other times, he didn’t. But the point was, they had those strange exchange between them for quite a few days now and Nazuna was not sure what to think of it.
She was not sure of what she was getting from this exchange. Well, she got to see the serial killer of the island cuddle with a very small very friendly kitty, but that was not all. Though, she had to admit, seeing Yakumo taking care of such a small beast was really cute.
No it was strange. Nazuna didn’t know why she kept coming back to the same place after each day. Sometimes, Yakumo was already waiting for her. Other times, she had to wait for him. Maybe it was that she knew that inevitably, he would show up, days after days.
Maybe this was why she didn’t need any reason to do this.
She could just let things as they were.
Nazuna smiled slightly, observing Yakumo obviously completely concentrated on the kitten in front of him. It was cute. Yeah.
Things were fine as they were.
Once again, Jun was walking Misaki home.
Her new acquired friend -and also the person she had to protect by orders of her boss- was avoiding her eyes and looking at the ground. Jun couldn’t help but to feel a little awkward too.
It was more or less 2 weeks into this…. Things, whatever it was called. And yet, Jun felt like she knew Misaki for much longer, since they had gotten really close in that short period of time. Jun didn’t know why she felt so close to the other girl – Maybe it was just the author inability to write slow built, despite this story is tagged as so- but she didn’t want it to stop at that. She still had much to learn about Misaki.
Nervously, hiding her face behind her hair, she looked at the other girl. When all of this thing while be done, would Jun had to go back to her sad little lonely apartment? Sure, Zhang found reason to complain about the many flight of stairs they had to climb just to escort Misaki to her apartment (since the elevator was broken most of the time) – but Jun liked the other girl presence, even if she had to climb 5 flight of stairs to spend time with her. Just a smile from Misaki made all the effort worth it in the end.
And that was why she was so nervous to ask the question that was on the tip of her tongue:
'' … Misaki?''
The other girl slightly jumped hearing Jun voice and Jun couldn’t help it, but to smile. The other girl was so genuine, it was refreshing. Actually, lots of people Jun worked with were also very open with their body language or their affection -like a certain Spaniard I will not name-, but still, she felt they still hold a part of secrecy deep inside of them. But Misaki didn’t. She had this innocent air around her, as she nervously putted a stray of her hair behind her ear. She answered with a shaky voice:
''Yes Jun?''
She looked so nervous and yet Jun couldn’t help but to find her adorable. And to be honest, the question she was about to ask made her just as nervous. But it was not the time to hesitate. She just had to be honest, even if she could feel her heart pound in her chest:
''Misaki, I was wondering… Well, c-can I ask you something? ''
Misaki seemed to blush slightly and her breathing seemed to hitch for a moment. None the least, she anxiously nodded with her head, as she said in a small voice:
''Y-you can ask me anything Jun…''
Jun nodded just to hide her eyes for a moment. She knew that nest thing she would do was going to be hard, but it would also be worth it. Finally, she could be sure on where Misaki and her were standing. It was important after all.
'' After all of this is done… Can we still be friend?''
Right after she asked this question, Jun found it a little silly. But she was not yet used to have a friend to spend ever moment by her side, so maybe that was part of her insecurity. But it was stupid to wonder such a pointless question. However, Misaki didn’t laugh at her or called her stupid. No, in fact she just smiled, a genuine smile full of sunshine, and answered with an hopeful look in her eyes:
'' I would love to stay your friend. For as long as we can.''
Jun laughed a little. It was silly to have questioned it in the first place. It was alright. Things between her and Misaki was alright. And they were gonna stay that way. It was just fine that way.
Absent-mindedly, she felt an hand slowly slip into hers. She could not help but smile. Maybe the gesture would have surprised her coming from anyone else, but she was alright with holding Misaki hand. More than alright in fact. It was oddly comforting holding her hand. Misaki looked a little nervous, so she lightly squeezed her fingers to comfort her.
Yeah. This was alright.
''Jun? Can I s-say something too? ''
Jun turned to look at her friend. Misaki was once again looking at the ground, but elevated her head when she felt Jun eyes on her. They shared a moment, eyes in eyes, looking at each other. Nothing else was more important at the moment. Jun asked in a soft voice that was almost a whisper:
'' What is it Misaki? ''
''… I’m really glad we’re friend. ''
Jun smiled at this affirmation. Misaki was just too cute. She tightened the grip on the other girl hand just a little bit, not hard enough to hurt, just to express that she felt the same way. They didn’t need words to say those kinds of things.
Misaki got her head up once again and Jun lost herself into her eyes once more. It felt like they were the two only person in the world for a moment…She felt that she could just slowly lean in and…
'' Senoritas! Something horrible happened!''
Jun lightly jumped and looked elsewhere. She was embarrassed and a little bothered to literally run into someone from her job, when she was supposed to just relax at home with Misaki. Or well. Misaki home. Not her house, but it felt like it. Anyway. They couldn’t help those things, so she still asked after a moment:
'' … What is it Carlos?''
'' It’s terrible! One of the kittens-!! She has been kidnapped!''
Hayato Inui lightly petted the kitten that was sleeping in his arms.
He was not sure what had happened for him to just have found one of the kittens he had originally stolen sleeping on the ground in the middle of nowhere, with no one in sight like that. Or, well, he could have guessed if he reminded himself of some of the sounds he heard from an alley a little farther away, but Inui preferred to forget it and had not investigate more than that.
He may be an asshole, but he was not ready to get involve on assholerie to that level yet.
Anyway, he had taken the kitten, choosing that their current owner, whoever it was, did not deserve the snugly little cat.
Inui wondered how Lihuang would react waking up with a kitten on his face.
And a rainbow haired guy watching him of course. Inui would prefer to prevent cat pancake anytime soon.
