Chapter 3: The Memories

Chapter Text

Melissa sits on the living room couch, watching her son and his boyfriend hang decorations on the tree. Over the last few weeks, she’s noticed a change in them both. Isaac has become more confident in himself and comfortable living with the McCall’s. While Scott has become more vulnerable around them both. He’s become visibly more affectionate than before.

Her thoughts were cut short as a shatter fills the room. Everyone’s gone silent, staring at the shattered ornament on the ground. The first to speak was Isaac, who looked at Melissa specifically.

”I’m so sorry! It just- it slipped from my hands and—“ he’s starting to panic now, breathing increasing in speed as he tries to beg Melissa for forgiveness. The older woman stands and dodges the shattered material on the floor as she approaches Isaac. As her hands graze his shoulders, he flinches, expecting a blow rather than a loving embrace.

”Shhh…I’m not mad. Don’t panic, they’re old, anyway.”

Scott watches from the side, starting to pick up the shattered ornament pieces. Isaac pulls away from the warmth of her embrace to crouch down beside Scott, “Let me do it,” he insists. His boyfriend, always the stubborn one, shake his head and smiles.

”No. You continue decorating,” he insists. Isaac hesitates for a moment, before sighing and standing up again. He picks up another ornament, admiring it for a second before he finds a nice spot for it on the tree.

“This movie is so shit,” Isaac teases as Scott and him, along with Melissa, sit on the couch. The tree is fully decorated and the lights are turned on, bathing the room in a nostalgic lighting. Scott lets out a breathy laugh, shaking his head and wrapping his arm around the other boys shoulders.

”It’s a classic. Deal with it,” he murmurs against the shell of Isaac’s ear, making a shiver run down the other boys spine. Isaac laughs and gently jabs his elbow into Scott’s side. The taller boy moves closer, leaning his face closer. Just before their lips could meet, a warning shot is spoken from the other side of the room.

”Boys,” Melissa warns, the faintest hint of a smirk on her face, “if you must, as least go to the bedroom.”

Issac smirks, his cheeks dusting a light pink from embarrassment. He turns to Scott and laughs, “Guess we’ll have to finish that later,” he whispers, his hand finding Scott’s, fingers lacing together.

There’s a silence, broken only be the sound of the movie on the tv and the breathing of the two boys and Melissa.

”Thank you…” Isaac whispers against Scott’s cheek, pressing a soft kiss against the skin there. He feels safe here, with the people who care about him the most. He knows Melissa cares, and he knows that she cares more than his father ever did.

The other boy turns his head, looking up at Isaac and smiling. It’s that smile he uses when he needs to be gentle and caring to the other boy, “Don’t thank me…” he whispers back, lifting himself just enough to press a soft, barely there kiss to his boyfriend’s lips.

Notes:

Okay so if this seems rushed or something, I’d like you to know that I only JUST decided to make this a multiple chapter fic. It might end up being shit, who knows?
