Chapter Text
The sun shined brightly in the motel room, well it illuminated every part since it was faced directly towards the sun. Blinding anyone who was sleeping peacefully, as if that wasn't enough to wake our trio awake. The room's alarm was one that played music instead of loud blaring.

Erin was the first to wake, right next to the alarm going off. She reached over to turn it off, only to find herself stuck and Elwood gripping onto her as he slept. Why does he still have those damn sunglasses on? She thought to herself, trying to break free.
"Argh! You can wake up and let go of me now." She reached her arm out farther, barely grazing the snooze button. Once the sound of Sonny and Cher seized, Erin sighed to herself for her accomplishment. Until Elwood loosen his grip. "AH!" She fell with a thud, Elwood stirred awake. Looking over the edge down at Erin.
"You okay?"
"... Never better." Erin's reply dripped with sarcasm, as if it would be caught by anyone who bothered to care.
Just two rooms down, the disgruntled diner owner came out of his room. Eyes widening with fury as he spotted the familiar police cruiser. "Sweet baby, Jesus. They ain't getting away this time!" He ran back into his room, looking for when he last place his shotgun.
Our trio walk out of the motel room, well more like stumbled. "How the hell are you guys not freezing?" Erin asked, zipping up her jacket as she chastise the brothers for their lack of one.
"Relax, it's not that cold for winter." Jake simply shrugged off, while trying to not make it appear he was being affected... Just a bit.
"Actually, winter doesn't start until the 21st." Said Erin, which Jake rolled his eyes at.
"Okay, brainiac.
"And you might wanna start the car and make sure the engine didn't freeze overnight-"
"ALRIGHT, alright. Here, go and I don't know grab a soda or something before we hit it." Jake grumbled, waving Erin away as she walked over to the vending machine. "She's definitely a know-it-all, and I think even a motorhead like you."
"You think so?" As Elwood started the engine, he turned over to Jake. "You think I'm a role model?"
"Huh?" Jake grunted.
"I was just thinking about what the penguin said, how I'm some sort of example. Something about the kid being my legacy." Those words were all that Elwood couldn't stop thinking about, legacy. But what exactly was a legacy? And how would someone like him be an example or possible influence for another life. What was his legacy to pass onto Erin, did he even have one worth passing?
"El, you space out any longer, miss smart-ass is gonna turn into a human popsicle out there. Did you hear anything I said?" Jake knocked at the cars window, as Erin waited for the back door to be unlocked.
"Oh," The door unlocked, Elwood flashing a sheepish looks as Erin climbed in the backseat
"Sorry."
"Sure you are." Once Erin was in, they started pulling out of the lot, just as the disgruntled diner owner came back out.
"You ain't getting away this time!" He fired off his gun, once again missing and hitting the motel's light-up sign. Sparks flew everywhere, and eventually caused a fire as the motel owner came running out in a panic.
"They really should check the wiring on that sign." Elwood said, as if it were a part of some casual conversation.
Erin looked back at the motel, jaw-slacked and shocked. She was starting to think the brothers might have been cursed or something, there just had to be a logical explanation for it all. "I'm pretty sure that's the same guy from yesterday who tried to shoot us."
"I told you, nothing is going to happen to us. We're on a mission from God." Erin just shook her head at the answer she received, leaning forward directly at Elwood. "Is that gonna be your answer to everything?" She received no response, to her question instead she was asked.
"Why don't you tell us about yourself? I feel like I don't really know a lot about you."
"... Again, you didn't even know I was out in the world."
"We know you like that-" Elwood tried remembering what the song was called, but decided not to think about it too much. "Y'know, that Clash you listen too. What else do you like?"
Erin's mind did a double check to make sure she didn't misheard, or if either of them were being sarcastic. "I don't know, writing I guess. It's just a hobby."
"You know what? I gotta idea, you and me switch places." Jake announced, and what followed was him trying to climb in the backseat, while Elwood tried to keep his eyes on the road and at whatever Jake was up to.
"Wait, what are you-" Erin was being shoved up front, she groaned and argued back, going back and forth with Jake. "Come on, you'll love it up there!"
Erin fell into the passenger seat with a grunt, fixing her hair and she sat up. Elwood was about to say something, but refrained from doing so.
"Go on keep going! About whatever it was you were yapping about." Jake said, while Erin just rolled her eyes and looked out the window.
"I'd rather not anymore." A moment of awkward silence followed, before Elwood cleared his throat and reached for the radio.
"There anything you'd like for the holiday?"
"Why?" Erin asked, skeptical about the real reason Elwood could be asking. She already thinks he's weird and so on. Elwood shrugged. "Just asking, maybe get you a keepsake."
Erin scrunched her face in an annoyance, why would he be worried about getting her a present when after she was back home, she'd never see him again.
Elwood wasn't sure what it was he said to make her annoyed, people were always hard to figure out sometimes. And I guess the same applies to his... Daughter? Just thinking about the word and its meaning was something he still needed to come to terms with.
Ten feet behind them, the highway officers drove around. Searching for the Dodge X-Police cruiser, that had humiliated and embarrassed them the previous day.
"Hey, it's the cruiser. Step on it, Dale!" The officer told his partner, while their intercom came through with a report that was being sent out through all police areas on the outskirts of.
"Bob, ya heard that right?" Asked Dale. Bob nodded, as he kept his eyes stuck on the cruiser. "Yeah, some kid who was snatched was seen in a cruiser..."
The two officers faced lost color, realizing what had been said through the radio. "SHIT!" they both shouted, speeding up faster.
Erin looked back through the side mirror, seeing the incoming police car. "Did they really follow us all the way?"
"Yap." Elwood slammed his foot down, practically slinging Erin forward as he went off road.
Off the road stood a Christmas tree lot, as a family of three were out buying their tree for the newborn's first Christmas. "You think she likes the pine smell?" The husband asked, before his wife screamed at the incoming cars heading their way. The few people standing around quickly jumped or scurried away to avoid getting hit, though some of the trees weren't spared.
"Get em!" They were so close to apprehending the blues brothers and being rewarded heroes. That was until a dog was standing right in the middle, without a care in the world. The two officers screamed, swerving to the side and rear-ending the nearest car to them.
Some Christmas this is turning out to be, and they're not even close enough to the set destination.
Meanwhile in Carmel Indiana...
Five women stood outside, preparing for what they called a wellness trip. Leaving their children alone for the first time in God knows how long. But it was for the greater good obviously. "And there's lots of leftovers that you can heat up, we'll be back before Christmas." The woman kissed her husband goodbye, and hugged each of her three children. By the time the mothers piled in, Karen turned to face them. "Alright, ladies. We're on a mission, and that mission is making sure that a child is found and returned safely back home. And free from the clutches of..."
She shivered just thinking about who had poor Erin hostage. "These, 𝘮𝘦𝘯. We're not just going to stand around while we can do something about it." Turning the engine on, there was no going back for these housewives. The thrill of long denied, neglected pleasure. The adrenaline inducing, and exciting. "LET'S BEAT THEY'RE ASSES!" Karen cried out, as the other woman followed in suit.
Elwood was in a predicament, here he was. Stuck in the same space as his unknown daughter? Long lost child? Sister from another mother? He wasn't sure what to even call what he was feeling at the moment or how he should view Erin, how does she view him? She has called him a spaz which isn't a compliment. He can't say he doesn't fault her, he'd probably feel the same if he was in her shoes. At least it wasn't like Jake's, his mom killed his father. Erin wasn't going to kill him right? If she was secretly planning to, how would she do it. "Did you hear me?" Erin's voice cut through his train of thought, looking over at him directly as the three of them stood outside of a Denny's. "Yeah... What did you say?" Erin just shook her head, muttering under her breath. "Nothing."
...
They stepped inside, ordering some well deserved food which went as follows; Four fried chickens and a coke, dry white toast. And lastly, black coffee and scrambled eggs. Jake and Elwood silently observed, as Erin opened two more packets of sugar into her coffee, then a third. Fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth. Finally stopping at ten. She took a gulp, and let out a satisfied sigh. "Damn, kid. You are a diabetic's worst nightmare." Jake commented.
Erin scowled towards his jab, chuckling as she sat her mug down. "At least I have a normal meal in front of me, you shouldn't be talking."
To get his brother's attention, Jake "lightly" kicked Elwood's leg. "Now's your chance to say something instead of being completely silent- OUCH!" Elwood did the same back with a little more force, slightly smirking at Jake's grimace before turning to Erin.
"So, you always take your coffee with sugar?"
"Uh, yeah. I prefer it black." Erin answered, taking another sip of her beverage.
As our trio enjoyed their breakfast, and oddly enough were acting as civil members of society. (Most Jake and Elwood) Pulling his truck into parking, the restaurant owner let out a weary sigh as he headed inside to get something on his stomach. He would catch those dine-and-dashers if it was the last thing he'll do. He stumbled a little at the sudden noise of... Ah whatever these kids nowadays call it. A bunch of hoods, he thought to himself. In the middle of nowhere Indiana, Denny's could you consider the whitest place they've been, but food is food. If you're blind to taste and smell. The aging owner had just sat down three feet each away from our trio, none the wiser to the possible outcome had he looked over.
Not long after, the overzealous cops also sat down not far from the brothers... "Hey, look at those fellas over there." The second one had chuckled... Wait a damn minute. Once it clicked for them, and their eyes darted to the cruiser parked within sight, then back at Erin. Then at the blues brothers, then the cruiser, and back to Erin. A collective thought passes through their minds.
Oh shit.
Just as table two had come to the realization, the disgruntled owner at table one also had the same. Tossing aside his hash browns, he ran back to his truck for his shot gun.
Erin was unaware of the planning Jake and Elwood were doing, before she noticed something was up. "Uh, what are you guys talking about?" Jake stood up from his seat, walking behind Erin as he rested his hands on her shoulders. "Erika-"
"It's Erin."
"Shut up. There comes a time in life when all it seems like it won't stop at nothing to keep you from achieving your goals, you know what to do?"
Erin blinked, trying to keep her from cringing cause of the smell of alcohol and lack of showering. "Keep trying?"
"No, you take life by the neck and beat its ass." Jake declared, as Elwood grabbed a tube of toothpaste out. "Now hold on-"
Just as the older man finally found his gun, he heard hysterical screaming inside the diner.
Meanwhile inside, everyone was in a state of panic. Elwood was growling and foaming at the mouth as he "bit" down on Jake's arm. "AHHH, OH GOD. HE'S GOT RABIES!" He cried out, while Erin kept her head down and pinched the bridge of her nose. "You gotta be kidding me." She muttered to herself, there was no way anyone would fall for this.
They did.
