Chapter Text
The breeze blew softly as Jack Frost and Baby Tooth sat in the snow on the edge of Burgess’ lake. Jack held up his friend at eye level. He didn’t know what he was supposed to do to help, so he tried thinking about their faithful moments.
“You know, you really helped me at my lowest, not only did you forgive me for leaving you behind at Pitch’s lair, but you helped me activate my memories to show me who I was.” He looked out to the lake. “You also listened to me when I talked about my family. This may seem a little silly, but you remind me of my sister. You’re both always tugging on my jacket for attention or scolding me for something.”
Baby Tooth smirked.
Jack continued, “Just like how I protected my sister, I’ll promise to watch over you too.”
At those words, Baby Tooth perked up and whipped her head at the lake. Then without warning, she flew up into the air and dived straight into the body of water.
Jack yelled in fright and plunged the top half of his body into the lake, reaching in to grab the fairy, the other half of him dangling on land.
As he swished his arm through the water, his hand felt a small feathery ball. With a wash of relief he sat up, bringing them both up to the surface. He coughed, uncurling his fingers from their grasp on Baby Tooth. The fairy shook the water off her head.
“WHY DID YOU DO THAT?!” Jack yelled at the mini-fairy in his palm. His hoodie and hair was soaked. “You know what happened to me, why did you go off and replicate it-” He blinked.
Baby Tooth looked different. Her tail feathers all the way up to her belly were pure white, with hints of green and teal feathers by her shoulders and neck. The feathers on her head were now a bold blue.
The boy gawked at the fairy in his hand. “Whoa. You look… like a little Winter fairy.” Jack whispered in awe. “Are you- do you feel okay?”
Baby Tooth gave an eager nod as she flew up to hug his nose, the moon’s light reflecting off her transparent wings and the frost spirit’s hair. Jack gave out a breathless laugh.
A stick snapped somewhere behind them, making the frost spirit turn around. Finding nobody, the boy shrugged.
Hiding behind a nearby tree was Toothiana and her gaggle of fairies, watching the whole ordeal with tender smiles.
