Chapter Text
They once called her Daphne, daughter of a river god
Wild and kind
And when the sun knocked on her door she felt sick and Disgust
They once called her Daphne, daughter of a river god
Young and a huntress
And when the heart shot her with that arrow she grew sick at the thought of love
They once called her Daphne, daughter of a river god
She loved to run
And when the sun knocked on her door and said her name she ran
And she ran
They once called her Daphne, daughter of a river god
She grew tired of the run
And the chase
They once called her Daphne, daughter of a river god
And as her legs turned to roots and her hair turned to leaves
A voice
Gentle and honeyed
Said to the nymph they called Daphne
“I rename you lorel, daughter of rivers and crown of victors”
They once called her Daphne, daughter of a river god
But the earth renamed her
victory
