Chapter 10

Summary:

Coupes turn!

Chapter Text

Being raised by the French Mafia and trained as an assassin for most of your life was not the best way to grow up, especially when it comes to relationships.

Janelle never felt like a person before she met Colm. She felt like a tool and for a long time that's all she knew how to be. She was no different from the knives she carries or the shadows she controls. Colm helped her become human, he was the first man she had ever loved. He made her want to be human, want to love just as deeply as he loved her. Falling for the rest of the pack had only strengthened and solidified this desire.

While each of her pack mates had their own charms none were as alluring as Robert. Much of this had to do with his secondary gender, that much felt obvious. When she learned he was an omega it felt like all the instincts she had been trained to suppress came clawing to the surface. A desire, no a NEED to protect and provide nearly encompassed her entirely. It had been easy to push that need down or redirect it into her new work as a hero when he was just their dispatcher but when he fought for her and sonar it only got harder. Without her realizing she found herself hovering around the omega, leaving him small gifts and treats or blocking him from the view of other alphas.

When Colm noticed they ended up having a long talk about courting and boundaries. Things she knew logically but had never had to put into practice. Before long the whole team was discussing the idea of becoming a pack and making Robert the head (and only) omega. Their epicenter.

She had been nervous the day they all confessed their affections and desire to the doe eyed man. He had about a thousand reasons why they should find someone else. Why they could do better. Why he wasn't good enough. Each word that fell from his mouth stabbed her heart and filled the bleeding organ with rage for those who made him think that way. Their chiot deserved better.

He had cried when they finally got through to him, convinced him that he was perfect (because he was) and that they wanted him and no one else. So when Janelle heard him wrenching over the coms, had rushed to medical to see him weak and pale in the hospital bed and listened to his broken cries for a pup that wasn't even really a pup she nearly broke.

Ever since they had put together Roberts care plan she had been meticulously gathering intel on omega care and crafting her own plan for when she would be put in charge of his care. The scare they got from him being scent drunk had almost sent her into a protective rage. She knew Chad was capable though. He would take care of Robert in their stead. She had been relieved by the results of his medical exam.

This all lead her to the present. Robert was sitting at the bar finishing his breakfast as the pack took turns saying their goodbyes to the two of them and scenting Robert on their way out. Reviewing her mental list of recovery activities coupe decided grooming would be the first order of business.

Robert had already bathed the night before so that part could be skipped, however his hair was currently a mess. It was tousled and sticking up at odd angles from having slept with it being slightly damp.

Without a word Janelle retrieved a hairbrush and a bottle of detangler she had purchased just for this purpose. She sat on the couch in the soft shorts and worn grey T-shirt she had chosen for today. Soft clothes were said to appeal nicely to an omegas instincts.

"Robert" she call softly "come here mon coeur"

The omega blinked a bit, surprised by the sudden softness. Honestly he should be used to it by now but Janelle was just so different from Coupe. He wandered over to the couch where the alpha motioned for him to sit on the floor in front of her. He noticed a small pile of pillows and blankets at his feet and settled down. Subconsciously he rearranged a few of them as he settled down.

The light spritz of the detangler startled him slightly but the moment the brush was running through his hair he couldn't be bothered to care.

Janelle carefully brushed any tangles from his hair and smoothed out any locks that were out of place. Even after Roberts hair had been successfully tamed she continued the action, reveling in the way he melted in her touch.

That was what she loved most about Robert, his trust in them. Trust was an odd thing for the omega, he could trust someone with his life but still be afraid to tell them something as simple as his name. Robert had trusted them, trusted Janelle with his entire being though. His secrets, his body, his heart. He had given it all to the pack the moment he became theirs.

He should be afraid of Janelle like any other sane person. She was an assassin, a monster, the mafias tool, and yet he looked at her and only saw a woman. He called her kind, selfless, reliable, caring and so many other things that she found hard to believe but somehow believed anyway because Robert had been the one to say it.

The omega was purring now so she moved on to the nest step. Setting the brush aside Janelle trailed her hands down to Roberts neck and slowly began to smooth the knots that always seemed to plague him. She smiled as his shoulders sagged with every press or rub of the tight muscles. She eased out her own scent of honey crisps and white wine. It wasn't a common scent but Robert had mentioned liking it on several occasions. She didn't stop until the omega was a drowsy puddle in her lap.

It didn't take much effort to move him to his nest, especially with him being so pliant. Once he was comfortable the alpha retrieved Beef and settled him down next to his owner before slipping in herself. She watched over the omega and his pup until he finally awoke from his nap an hour later.

"Chiot" she called as she held out her wrist, fully taking advantage of the fact that Robert was still half asleep. He scented her without question.

She kept him in a similar state for the majority of the day. Each time he would try to do anything that didn't involve him resting, nesting or eating Janelle would swoop in with some trick to ease him back into those particular behaviors. Robert wanted to hop on his laptop to check on a program he was building? Janelle needed help getting a stubborn knot out of her hair. Robert tries to cook them lunch? Beefs suddenly looking very lonely, he should really check on that. Robert wants to clean up a little. Janelle could really use a cuddle because shes been 'feeling down'. (She was perfectly happy actually given she gets to spend the whole day alone with the packs only omega)

Robert fell for it every time, his bleeding heart was simply too soft for his own good. If their was a problem or if one of his mates needed him he would drop everything in an instant. It's just who he was.

As was begining to become the norm, Robert was napping in his nest when the rest of the pack returned from work, smelling like apples and wine with his pup snuggled up in his arms.
