Chapter Text
“Next up is the night patrol,” Marco flips slides with ease. “Sector 1-5 and 7-10 have already been booked, so all that's left is sector 6.” Reverse mountain, Ace realized.
“I’ll take it.” his hands in the air before he realizes what he’s doing, and from Marco’s look he can tell the man realizes this wasn’t planned.
“You want sector six?” He asks incredulously.
“Sure.” Ace puts his hand down with a smile, no backing out now. Marco continues gaping at him for a moment longer before sighing.
“Fine. No fires though alright?”
“Of course.” for now.
—
“So anyway- I looked up boundless in the database and apparently he was the guy who convinced Crocodile to leave Alabasta district.”
“Wait for real?”
“Yep. No one knows how he did it, only that Croco left and the government covered it up.”
“Well… Guess that means I’m here for nothing.”
“...” Sabo is silent for a moment. “Ace. Where are you right now?”
He has a strange feeling…Like he messed up somehow….
“Ace.”
“I’m around Reverse Mountain.”
“...I thought you said you were staying away from Reverse Mountain?”
Ace hadn’t expected that. It was true, yes that he didn't exactly like to be anywhere near Reverse mountain most days, but he never let it get in the way of his responsibilities.
“I was.” He decided to be honest. “But I figured that Boundless would be here with how fast he was going.”
“Well. You weren’t wrong.” The tension melted like butter. “He was just ahead of you.”
“Ahead is a bit of an understatement.”
“Hhaa. Just stay safe.”
“I will!” What's with everyone today?
“Yeah yeah. Love you bro.”
Before he could respond, his communicator pinged. A short and shrill chime that had Ace standing on edge.
“Ace?”
“I just got an emergency alert.” Already Ace was beginning to move, it wasn’t right to stay out after hearing that alert even if you had a good reason.
“I-”
“I’m going to have to hang up Sabo, sorry.”
“Ace-”
This was the first time he had ever heard the alert, and the rising worry did nothing to help his already ruffled nerves. Something was wrong, and Ace had a horrible feeling he knew what it was.
