Chapter 3: Find the Yellow brick house

Notes:

I’m back! Some of this had been written b4 I dropped the Fic so don’t mind the change in style

Chapter Text

‘To walk or not to walk, that is the question,’ Scar said, throwing his hands in the air.
They’d picked up walking again and had definitely made some progress, but now it was getting dark. The crows that had followed them before were now replaced with bats.
‘It’s getting pretty dark’, Grian observed, ‘do you think we should find somewhere to stay the night?’
Scar nodded along, still trudging down the dirt road, Pizza’s lead in hand.
‘The past couple of nights-’ Grian started up again, ‘- I’ve been sleeping on the porches of empty houses.’ This caught Scars attention.
‘Why just on the porches?’ he turned around to face Grian, ‘why not in the comfortable beds, with like… walls?’
‘Well,’ Grian answered blankly, ‘usually those ‘comfortable beds’ contain people who died of the flu. And I don’t particularly want to deal with anymore dead bodies than I already have to.’
Scar muttered in agreement.

‘Right so… next house we come across, sleeping bags on the porch? Or maybe I could drag a mattress out if there’s uh… one free?’ They had not yet found Scar a cane because they had not yet come across a house, so Scar was riding on Pizza’s back as they trotted down the dusty Toronto back roads. Was this even Toronto anymore?
When they reached a fork in the road, Scar hopped off pizzas back and pointed down one of the roads.
‘Look Grian! There’s a house down there! Looks like a big one too.’ He shouted.
Grian ran up next to him and followed his gaze.
‘Lucky find!’
The house was built of yellow, sandy coloured bricks and it had a porch that had a roof and seemed very decent to sleep on. It stood on the top of a hill and looked down on them like it could see the whole overworld.
‘Let’s make our way up there, do you need to go on Pizzas back again or are you good to walk?’ Grian offered Scar a hand. He declined.
‘I’m sure I’ll be able to get up to the house, looks old enough that they might have a cane there.’
