Chapter Text
Dazai shifts on his bed. Fukuzawa left nearly an hour ago. He shouldn’t miss him; Fukuzawa was gone his whole life. Fukuzawa never showed up for anything.
The door opens. Nobody should have the key, he doesn’t have a roommate.
“Dazai, are you here?”
The light flicks on with a small click. Kunikida walks up to the bed and sits down on the edge of the mattress silently.
“We need to talk.”
“I don’t feel like talking…”
“It’s not a choice.”
“Get out…” Dazai turns away and pulls the blanket over his head.
“Dazai, we need to talk.” Kunikida reaches for the blanket.
“You’re breathing too loud and you’re tapping your fingers on your notebook…”
“Dazai, stop this. Now.” Kunikida sets his notebook on the nightstand and grabs Dazai’s shoulder.
Dazai sits up and pushes Kunikida away, then lies back down and pulls the blanket back over himself.
Kunikida stumbles, but catches himself and sits on the mattress again. “Where’d you leave your headphones?” He opens a drawer and looks inside before pulling out Dazai’s headphones. “Sit up. Please?”
Dazai sits up slowly and curls into himself while Kunikida puts the headphones over his ears and pulls him close. “Better?”
Dazai nods, pressing into Kunikida’s shoulder. “Why’re you here..? You don’t live in the dormitory.”
Kunikida sighs, pulling Dazai slightly closer. They weren’t going to talk about anything serious anytime soon. “Don’t worry about it, just rest..” He shifts, pulling the lighter blanket over Dazai’s shoulders. “I’ll be here as long as you want.”
Ten minutes passed before the door opened. Fukuzawa walks in quietly, shutting the door behind himself as he walks to the bed. Dazai has already fallen asleep, but Kunikida is still awake.
“How is he?”
Kunikida looks up, his hand stilling in Dazai’s hair. “Tired, overstimulated. He didn’t want to talk about anything.”
