Chapter 8
Returning back to the desert sands, Plunder, the Spice Maidens and the crew were all aboard the Tiberius ship. The desert dwellers couldn’t believe their eyes of the high-top technology; even the fact this ship could actually fly in the skies. However, their curiosity and awe was overshadowed by the mass of guns pointing towards them. Their hands were tied up as they entered the main cabin. They tried to constraint the cartoon cat; however, Simpson would simply wriggle himself out of hi bonds. However, the cat simply followed everyone as he simply didn’t want to be left alone in the sand dunes.
As for Filch, he was nowhere to be seen. Was it left behind? Or keeping himself Cognito? It was best for all of them, to keep him unbeknownst from the other crew.
Captain Plunder was at the lead, watching Captain Tiberius sitting comfortably in his high Captain’s chair. He crossed over his legs in victory; as if sitting on a throne. His dark sunglasses hid the gleam in his eyes to see Plunder topple a few ties from his stumbled foot. He was giving the special treatment; chains instead of ropes. They were heavy and dragged his hands down. They were simply unbreakable; the chains you were used for the most dangerous of pirates. Plunder cursed under his breath as the chain would knock against his knees or try to trip him over. However, the sisters were left confused as they walked beside the prisoners; unchained or even threatened by the Tiberius crew.
“What gives Tiberius?” Pepper commanded as she folded her arms, watching Plunder’s crew being forced to sit down of the floor with their legs crossed, their hands placed between their legs. Only Plunder stood up.
Tiberius simply smiled and waved his hand.
“Well, I wasn’t going to dishonour Queen Zorabel by giving you the same treatment; I am a gentlemen after all.” Tiberius spoke politely.
“Mother sent you?” Cinnamon asked, looking anxious.
The Captain simply shook his head.
“No, my Dear; put making sure you girls get home safety, will surely award me with something.” He smirked as he pressed buttons on his chair.
Nutmeg was surveying and walking up to each computer screen, asking dozens of questions to the crew about treasures they have found in their journeys. Tarragon simply demanded a hot shower and request of change of clothes. Tiberius simply ordered his crew to attend their commands.
“What will you do with Plunder and his crew?” Cinnamon asked, looking towards the Captain.
Tiberius grinned towards the group; no longer hiding the sinister tone in his voice.
“The cretin deserves to never be seen on Mobius; let alone this whole universe ever again! A trip to the Special Zone Black Holes, will suffice.”
The desert dwellers had no idea what a black hole was as they whispered amongst themselves. Rudransh and Gordon looked at each other with curiosity. It was Simpson who looked confused.
“Wait, how? Can’t simply open a door to a whole different dimension.” He asked, with a question mark over his head.
“Well, you will be correct my strange fellow; if it wasn’t for this “kind” donation.” Tiberius.
One of the nearby crew pressed a button on his monitor, to reveal footage of outside the ship. Located on the Stern of the ship, stood a small pedestal in the middle. It was decorated with one large yellow star, that stretched over the circular platform. Simpson shouted out.
“Look Captain! A star post! Wait…that one sure looks like-”
But before the cartoon could finish his sentence, Plunder yelled out of the top of his lungs and charged straight towards Tiberius.
“You thieving dog! That’s MY star post”
But before he could even reach the Captain’s chair, Tiberius crew blocked his path and wrestled him down. His tiny parrot frantically moved around the hands of the crew as they tried to capture it. Plunder was heaved down to the floor, their weapons to his face. But Tiberius raised his hand to stop them. The crew stopped and waited for instruction as they held him down. Plunder could look up with his good eye as Tiberius knelt toward him.
“Was; before I sunk your ransack of a ship and claimed it as my own.” Tiberius smiled in triumph.
Plunder hissed as he was pulled up by the crew and forced to kneel, guns pointed towards him from all directions.
“And what about us?” Coriander spoke.
Tiberius shook his head.
“You are free to go. I have no quarrel with you and will be more then delighted to escort you back to Scourge Bay for Queen Zorabel. But of course, I won’t be doing this for free.” The Captain lured, looking straight towards Plunder.
Plunder simply ignored him, looking the other way. Tiberius simply clicked his fingers and his second in command; now wearing her usual black uniform simply approached the tied-up Captain. He couldn’t protest as she simply slipped her hand into his waist coat; ignoring the pecks and cries of his tiny ghost parrot.
“I knew you wouldn’t go head first into danger, without taking some sort of booty. And from what I can recall, you never did like sharing your treasures did you?” Tiberius explained.
There, she returned back to the head Captain with the Eye of Re. Plunder hissed as he wanted to retrieve it; only to find more guns pressed to his back. Tiberius took it and admired its shiny red jewel.
“Now, I wonder how much this is worth?” Tiberius pondered as he gazed into the intricate details of the armament.
The sisters simply kept quiet but tried their best to not show off their sheer anger towards the Captain. Cinnamon couldn’t help but clenched her fists in frustration. Tiberius stood up from his chair and gave a gentle smile.
“Please ladies make yourself at home. I’m sure you are ravished and most certainly need some TLC. My second in command will escort you to your chambers for today. But as for you-!” Tiberius paused and glared towards Plunder.
“You and your men will take the lower decks in the cells. Your luck has finally run out for you! Take them down!” he commended his men.
Cinnamon watched Plunder and his crew being dragged away, before being escorted by the second in command. The sister regrouped with the other siblings and found themselves surrounded by food, clear water and a full wardrobe of clean towels and bathrobes. Tarragon was screaming in delight as she threw open the large wardrobe of clean towels, while Nutmeg indulged herself with the free grub; as if she not been fed for days.
“The Captain makes sure all his guest feel welcome. If there is anything you request, please don’t hesitate to ask.” The second in command politely smiled.
“How long before we reach the Special Zone?” Pepper asked as she helped herself to a bottle of cola.
“It will take some time before the Starpost is charged up, so plenty of time for you to rest and recover.” Their host explained.
“Is Tiberius really going to chuck Plunder into a Black hole?” Nutmeg shouted out, removing her head from a bowl of mash potatoes.
The sisters looked at her first with annoyance; then onward to their host. Nutmeg was just as curious as the rest of them. However, the second in command kept her calm gesture and smiled.
“The Captain is determined to see Plunder be condemned for his crimes. Now as you excuse me, I must attend to the “other guests” have a good rest, ladies.” She gave a smile, curtesy and then left the chambers through the automatic sliding door.
And then, they were left to their own demises. Pepper simply looked at the delicious food and rubbed her hands together in anticipation.
“Well, we might as well dig in! Hey Nutmeg, stop hogging all of the food!”
“No way! I saw the burgers first!” Nutmeg screamed as she jumped from one table to the next.
As her sisters consumed the colourful pallets of food across the table, Cinnamon simply lost her appetite as she slum down on the large blue sofa; throwing the overlarge cushions out of her way through frustration. Coriander simply sat down beside her, holding a small cup of tea; the smell of chai illuminating the area with its sweet smell.
“You seemed troubled sister? Worried we left empty handed?” Her sister spoke as she sipped on her tea.
Cinnamon shook her head.
“Not that. I’m sure Tiberius will think of something. Like we were kidnapped by Plunder or something. Or Plunder lured us into a trap in the hopes of treasure.”
“But what is really concerning you?”
Coriander moved closer as her sister talked quietly; away from her other sisters.
“Plunder…he saved Tarragon. At first, I thought the snake was gonna desert her for the treasure and yet; he rushed back into Hell for her. And looking back with the Temple, he made sure everyone got out of there safe. Is he…really that bad?”
“Well, we can’t know for sure. Tiberius and Plunder seem to have a long history together; which Tiberius wants more than happy to burn it away.”
Cinnamon was silent for a moment, till the jumped up quickly.
“Well let’s talk to the Geezer! Find out what this is all about.”
However, her sister took hold of her wrist as she tried to move away.
“It is best to not get involved sister. If we mistake our footing, Tiberius could throw us into the Black hole as well. I suggest you forget about it and move on; get some food before the others take it all for themselves.”
Cinnamon sat back down quietly, as Tarragon came out of the shower; wrapped from head to toe with bath sheets and towels. She strolled along as if she was cloud 9. Then she turned to her sister.
“Did I miss something?”
As her sisters continued to eat and drink merrily, Cinnamon just couldn’t stop thinking of Plunder and his team. All this anger towards him; for one simple act of betrayal? As having four other sisters, the thought of betraying them was unthinkable. Things just didn’t add up. And her frustration and rattling her brain over it was driving her insane. She bolted up from the sofa and marched towards outside their chambers.
“Hey! Aren’t you hungry?” Nutmeg shouted toward her, holding drum sticks in both her hands.
Then the rest of her sisters simply stood and watched as the door simply let her through and close behind her…
The pirates passing Cinnamon didn’t even back an eyelid as she passed them. Some of them even smiled and winked toward her as she made her way to the Captain’s chambers. She only stopped as she looked upon the large steel door; something not normal for a traditional pirate ship. She tightened her hand and threw it at the door; banging three times. She waited and then suddenly;
“Enter!”
The large door swooped open by the press of a button, as Tiberius still sat upon his large black desk. He hadn’t even looked up as he was concentrating on the papers in front of him. His chambers was full of riches; some ancient while others brand new. Jewels and gold decorated the walls so much, Nutmeg would have a field day. His large bed was surrounded in a delicate engraved wooden frame, fit for royalty; enriched with purples and dark greens. He had extremely high taste.
“Ah Miss Cinnamon, please do take a seat.” He politely spoke as he stood up from his high chair.
Cinnamon took the other chair; curious to see everything so formal. Tiberius had approached a large cupboard and inside, contained different bottles of all colours and sizes. He took a long dark blue bottle; while carrying two small glasses in his other hand. He returned to his chair and gave a glass to Cinnamon. As he opened it, he continued to speak.
“How are you finding your chambers Miss? I hope they are up to standard for you and your sisters?”
“Not too shabby. At least Tarragon has finally stopped complaining.” She joked.
The Captain bellowed out laughing as he poured the dark liquor into her drink. Instantly she smelled the strong smell of sweet berries. It was quite powering as she took the glass into her hand and smelt it closer. Tiberius sat down, helping himself to a glass.
“A toast to victory!” Tiberius cheered as he raised his glass.
However, Cinnamon simply looked down at hers, still not so sure if she should try it.
“Don’t worry; it’s not poison. Just has an extra kick to make your chest hairs stand on edge.” The Captain laughed as he took another sip.
Cinnamon took a small sip and was grateful she did; as a sudden kick of flavour almost jumped her out of her socks as she cough harshly. Tiberius simply laughed out loud.
“Hah! I used to drink this when I was a wee pirate mate on my first ship! Now it’s like sipping an old memory time and time again.” The Captain smiled as he took another sip and sighed in delight.
As her taste buds relaxed and the coughing eased, Cinnamon started to glance around the room; looking at all the items that surrounded them; gold, jewels, artwork. Tiberius simply stroked his large beard down. He could see her curiosity.
“You know you do remind me of your mother; strong and a dead keen eye on something shiny.”
“Ah that would be Nutmeg; she’s a right Magpie when it comes to shiny treasures. Did you find these, after being kicked out of Captain Black Beaks crew?”
The excitement Tiberius held, had calmed down as he sighed and slunk back on his chair.
“Aye Miss. Had to start from scratch pretty much; working as a cabin boy on another ship. And as experience grew; so, did I. Till I became Master and Captain of my own ship.” He smiled lifting his hands up of side of them, showing the beauties of his work.
Cinnamon kept calm as she spoke.
“I heard many tales from mother; that you, Zorabel and Plunder were the best of friends. Until, the day you were banished.”
Tiberius sat down on his chair, his lips on the glass but his eyes deadly staring at Cinnamon.
“Guess this isn’t an informal meeting. Speak child; what is it you’re after?”
“Answers. To what drove you to the seven skies of Mobius to hunt down a lowlife pirate such as Plunder. To what end of years of searching for him, caused nothing but hatred to Plunder?”
Suddenly, Tiberius slammed the empty glass onto the table, silencing Cinnamon on the spot. He stood up from his chair and headed to one of the shelves. He picked out a large photo frame and placed into the Maidens hand. Carefully, Cinnamon looked at the old photo. It was a ship, with its crew standing guard for the picture. In the middle, the Captain. At the front, sat on the floor were small children. Faces from so long ago; Tiberius, her mother and Plunder.
Tiberius returned to his chair. Pouring another glass as he spoke.
“Blackbeak was famous for being the most ruthless pirate of our time. His crew were made up of the most dangerous and cut throating scum you could think of. That was why he was crowned as Pirate King many years ago. We were wee kids when we came aboard his ship. It was tough; scrubbing the deck, cleaning the kitchens of a 100 crew and watching over the ship as Blackbeak savaged for treasure. We set our goal; to be our own Captains in our own ships. To have a crew for ourselves and get that crown of Pirates. All three of us made a “blood bound”; not one of these spit on hands and shake on it truce. The real McCoy!” He shouted, demonstrating his hand, crossing over his other as if holding a knife.
Cinnamon continued to listen as Tiberius leaned over his desk, with a smile on his face.
“But there was a secret. A dark secret about Captain Blackbeak. Rumours spread across the ship, but any who spoke of it, would be hung up and quartered. Any who speak, were never to be seen again the next day.”
“What was the secret?” The Maiden whispered, eager to listen.
“That the most ruthless Pirate in all the skies…was a big girls blouse!”
“Come again?” She asked as she nearly gagged on her drink.
“Blackbeak was as soft as a marshmallow. That he would secretly go to theatres while his crew were down at the pubs. That he even once dressed up as a fairy godmother for a pantomime! If any knew the truth, they could spill the beans to other competition; his reputation would be ruined!”
“Wow; I mean. Wait; so how come you were banished from the ship? Did you find out something?”
She watched as the Captain sipped the last drop off his cup and poured himself another glass.
“Oh aye! That be truth my lady. The crew whispered about the Captain’s cabin. No sailor dared go inside without the Captain’s permission. There, he would keep the treasures he had stolen, but also laid his most sacred treasure. No one knew what it was; and that was our plan! Plunder and I planned to sneak back onto the ship whilst the crew were off to the pubs. Distracted, we would sneak inside and steal this precious treasure.”
“So, whatever it is, you could sell it; become hardcore pirates! But really? To prove you two have got guts to be Captain? Must have been good money for you to steal it?”
“So, would you dare steal from your mother? To prove you had what it takes?”
Cinnamon suddenly stopped and became silent.
“Hmm, I thought so.” Tiberius smiled as he took another sip.
“As a kid, you bound to take risks, not thinking of the consequences. Even now to this day, I wish I wasn’t so ambitious; especially on who to trust. I told my plan to Plunder; and he took it like a sap. That night, when the crew were off ship, we sneaked back inside and scurried to the Captain’s cabin. Plunder was there for lookout as I cracked open the lock. But Plunder was a coward; suddenly wanting to change his mind. Just then, the door opened. Too curious, we sneaked inside.”
He paused as he gulped his drink down.
“The treasures were as beautiful as the rumours said. Jewels huge like the Chaos Emeralds; ancient statues and gold that shined more than power rings. We hit the jackpot; but that wasn’t our goal. Then we found something; near to the Captain’s bed. A small treasure chest, resting on top of his pillows. That had to be it! Surely! Drawn to it, I took the chest. But Plunder got cold feet and scurried away. He said he heard something; as if someone was coming. Before I placed the chest back, he ran away and locked the damn door! I tried to break free, but it was locked from the outside. I tried to shout out his name but he never came back. There was nothing I could have done; I was betrayed by that thick idiot and I was a damn fool for trusting him. He was a traitor to our Blood Oath!”
“So, what happened next?”
“My Dear, I was caught as the crew and Captain returned back to the ship. I didn’t even get the chance to say Goodbye to Zorabel, or to bring that coward Plunder along with me! I was simply commanded to leave the ship and stay at the shore. I was banished from his crew.”
Tiberius sighed and slagged back down to his chair.
“I was scorn from the pirate guild for years The idiots had casted me out! My own friends didn’t trust me! It’s fair to say as a pirate, that stealing and thieving are part of the job. But to steal from the most powerful Captain at that time, you sure bound to make enemies. But even after the death of Captain Blackbeak, as Zorabel took the reins in her stride, Plunder became nothing but a clown and a disgrace! Even to this day, I’m surprised that Zorabel never casted him out of Scourge Bay. Years of trying to find him and seek my revenge has been my flame to my belly.”
Cinnamon took all the information in as she finished her drink. No wonder mother never liked Plunder; but he did have some use. In a way, she felt something odd; she felt guilty for mistreating Plunder. But hearing all this, must have hit Tiberius. I would be like being betrayed by one of her sisters. She could never think of doing that to any of them; no wonder Tiberius was full of anger. But then her curiosity got the better of her.
“So, you never got to find out what was Blackbeak’s most treasured possession?”
Tiberius simply stared at her and smiled. Cinnamon watched for a moment as almost gave her shock away.
“You did open it!? So, what was it?” She eagerly begged.
Suddenly there was another knock on the door. Tiberius looked up and called out;
“Enter!”
Cinnamon was surprised to Coriander and Pepper walk inside. Cinnamon stood up from her chair, looking annoyed by their disturbance.
“Ah more guests; I shall collect more glasses.” Tiberius smiled as he welcomed them and ventured toward the drink cabinet.
“Everything alright?” Cinnamon asked as she walked towards them.
“Oh, better then alright. Check this out.” Pepper smiled as she gave a piece of paper.
Cinnamon looked at it and was surprised to see the two images of Rudransh and Gordon. They were indeed wanted posters. They were wanted captured alive from the Shanazar citizens, and when she saw the figures, she almost gasped out loud.
“Seems we can go back with coins in our pockets after all.” Pepper whispered and winked.
Cinnamon looked towards Tiberius as he collected more glasses from his wine cupboard. It was best to keep this hidden from him; who knows he much he wanted a percentage of this warrant, as well as the Eye of Rye. She looked back at Pepper and nodded her head. Coriander returned the gesture as she passed by her sisters, towards Tiberius.
“Forgive me, but before we depart back to the Special Zone, we need to take a quick detour.”
“Not a problem ladies. My second in command will set course; but first! Let us celebrate!”
Cinnamon nudged the girls to be extra careful; the drink had quite a punch…
In their trapped cells, Plunders’ team were shoved together in one cramped cell. The space was tight as each pirate tried their best not to stand over one another. Simpson was disappointed that the only food they were provided, was nothing but slop or leftovers from Tiberius crew. Their stomachs will have to continue to rumble.
“Honestly, I’m just glad I no longer have sand in my boots.” One of the pirates joked.
Gordon and Rudransh snarled at the pathetic joke as they huffed and crossed their arms. Gordon then moved over, so no one could hear him whisper.
“What now?”
Suddenly, everyone watched Rudransh stood up and approached the entrance of their cell. The wardens turned around and looked at him in confusion. The plump creature simply coughed politely, bowed down to them and smiled.
“Good evening, Gentlemen. I think there has been a great misunderstanding. You see, my and associate do not belong to these ruffians; so, if you please can arrange a meeting with your Captain, I am certain we can come to an agreement.”
The guards looked at him, then each other and suddenly bellowed into laughter. One of the wardens even wiped a tear from his eye.
“Thanks for that; that made my day. Heck; maybe we can all meet together and have afternoon tea?” The warden mocked.
“Now go on; beat it. No one is seeing the Captain; buzz off!” His comrade responded, banging the side of his gun on the bar cells.
Annoyed, Rudransh simply huffed and sat down in defeat. Gordon simply looked at him; feeling every pair of eyes looking at both of them with daggers in their eyes.
“Not gonna slither away from this one Rudransh. You’re a ruffian just like us.” One of the pirates stated.
The others were in firm agreement as they looked upon the both of them, snarling and tutting.
Meanwhile in another cell, Plunder had one all to himself. He as quiet, sitting down on the tiny stool he was provided with. The tiny parrot simply looked at him and returned to sleep on his pirates hat. He could hear his crewmates complaining; but there was nothing he could do. And still no sight of Filch; where the devil was he?
“Looks like my luck has finally set sail. Can’t get any worse than this?”
So deep in his thoughts, that he didn’t hear the footsteps approaching his cell.
“What a sorry state you look Plunder; you look like Hell. I thought the dessert sun would at least give you a tan; now you just look like a burnt crispy seaweed.” Tiberius opened up, sipping on his small glass.
He didn’t have to look up to see the Captains’ snug face; his eyes piercing through his black sunglasses. He took off his hat in frustration, scratching his forehead. The tiny bird rested upon his shoulder.
“Come to gloat? Not in the mood thanks. Head back to your horde of treasures and leave me be.” Plunder tutted, resting his hat back over his head.
Tiberius continued to sip on his drink.
“Tell me Plunder, what was your plan? You have no ship, your crew have no talent and with your luck, I’m surprised they didn’t leave you in the sand dunes. Then to drag along the Spice Maidens? If it wasn’t for me, Zorabel would have been more than happy to plunge you to the depths of the Black Hole herself. All for one little jewel?”
Tiberius took it out of his pocket, which Plunder only then looked up. He lifted his sunglasses off his face, to get a better look at the Eye of Rye. He hummed as he examined it carefully.
“I have heard many tales of Shanazar and of its hidden secrets. So, I wonder how much this is worth? A new ship? A new crew? Hmm, but no matter what, bad luck or not, no one will ever join the ranks of Captain Plunder; your name crossed over the Skies of Mobius as the biggest loser that ever walked.”
Tiberius laughed as he placed the Eye of Re back inside his pocket. Plunder simply kept quiet, till he sighed.
“Stop wasting my time of peace and quiet and tell me what you really want?”
Tiberius has stopped dead, looking serious. The large brute took a nearby folding chair and unfolded it in front of his cell. Plunder watched as the small chair took his full length; creaking from the massive strain. Tiberius made himself uncomfortable as he placed his sunglasses back upon his face.
“I want the truth Plunder. I want to know straight from the horse’s mouth. Was your intention to stab me in the back always there? To break the blood oath, we created as kids?”
“Never; as first mate to you, I would never stab you in the back. But there’s no point explaining the rules of the trade, do I?”
“So why did you do it? That night at the Captain’s cabin. You tailed off and locked the door behind yourself; leaving me to be fed to the lions! Now, as you’re about to meet your maker, any last confessions to declare? Speak up traitor!” Tiberius shouted, smashing the glass down onto the floor and letting it smash into millions of pieces.
Plunder simply sighed and slowly stood up; aching from the pain of sitting down for too long as his wooden leg, wheeled forward towards the end of the barred cell. Plunder looked directly into those sun glasses.
“Because it was better to be called a traitor, then a coward. That night, I never felt so much fear in my life. What if it went wrong? What happened if we were caught? And when a Pirate sees that black spot of death wailing over your head, you know it’s a bad omen. So yeah, I left because I was afraid! I heard something; I was no damn fool. But I thought you were right behind me! When I returned to the crew, you weren’t there. I panicked; tried to find Zorabel to help me out. But when I couldn’t find her, the news arose from the ship. When I went back, everyone was there; even Zorabel. Blackbeak ordered all of us to head under deck. You weren’t there either.”
But then the mood tensed as Plunder kicked his chair away, smashing on the prison bars.
“Don’t play with me Tiberius! You must have told someone about the plan! There was no one but us on that ship when the crew departed; you were clearly setting up a trap!”
“What in barnacles are you talking about?” Tiberius shouted back.
“You were the mastermind to all of it! I knew you had the same felt presence on that night; someone was clearly watching us! So, what was the plan? Get the treasure, lock me up inside while you scampered off, sharing the booty with you accomplice?
The Captain was in shock, staggering and swaying from the sudden bombshell.
“Don’t be daft you old fool; it was you who tailed off before me! And what was it in the end? You’re cowardness? Or your stupidity? Maybe it you who was made the fool; working with someone else like the seadog you always were!” Tiberius shouted.
The commotion between the both of them was causing quite a scene, causing the other inmates to press among the cell bars to try and get a better look. Some went quiet, trying to hear the conversation.
Tiberius was certainly losing his temper as he slammed down the bars from the other side, Plunder stepping back from the shock. Both Captains were screaming and shouting back and forth. If it wasn’t for the bars separating them, the brawl would have escalated to fists.
But then suddenly, a loud siren echoed across the whole ship. Everyone stopped and looked around. Then a booming voice echoed around them; the second in command called out.
“Captain! Our cloaking device has been detected by an unknown source; it is stopping us from reaching our destination.”
“Remove the cloaking device and detect this thing.” Tiberius commanded.
“But Captain! We don’t need to; it has sent a message through our communications; it wishes to speak with us.”
“What in tarnation is it?” Tiberius questioned, looking puzzled.
“I do not believe it is from Shanazar. It has position itself near to the star post; shall I command the guns to fire?”
“No. Let’s see what this thing wants.” Tiberius commanded with a curious look as he stroked his long white beard.
“Yes Captain.” The second in command then seized the siren and went silent.
Tiberius simply looked at Plunder with a dangerous glare as he lifted himself from the folding chair.
“This chat isn’t over.” He snarled, before he left to his duties.
Plunder simply heaved back down on his stool, thinking what could be worse? Till he suddenly felt the cracking of wood as the stool gave way, broke and leaving Plunder to fall backwards onto the floor. His tiny bird covered his ears from the language Plunder was yelling to himself…
Captain Tiberius and his team directed themselves to the Stern of the ship. The whole ship was floating in mid-air, but the winds were still quite strong as his crew steadied themselves on their feet. Some of the crew activated their gravity boots, making them hold themselves up from the motion of the ship. Tiberius simply walked across at ease; his long yellow jacket blowing harshly behind him.
He stood motionless, a few feet away from the star post. Only to be at a standstill with an unknown stowaway. It was a collection of white hovering droids, their beaming red eyes lowering to the ground and making small click sounds. The biggest one was mesmerized by the star post as is hovered around the device; scanning and carefully touching the modern relic.
Tiberius gave a huge shout, his crew aimed and ready to fire at the robots.
“I don’t like trespassers on my ship. State your business or I’ll toss you over the skies.”
The biggest droid moved away from the star post and moved towards the crew. The other smaller droids hovered around them. None of his crew lowered their guard as they were being watched at all angles. Tiberius held his hand steady, ready to give the order to fire. Then the biggest droid moved closer to open up a small black screen. There was no face; no welcome. Just a load of white noise.
“Captain Tiberius; fearless pirate of the Mobian skies. I have come to seek an audience with you.”
Tiberius crossed his arms, intrigued.
“Well, I’m here, so what do you want?”
“My master requests your talents, weapons and your ship.” It spoke, slightly turning its droid body towards the Star post. Tiberius could feel its interest towards it.
“And why should I possibly accept such a request? You haven’t even introduced yourself.”
“You will sooner than later. Hundreds of these droids are scattered across Mobius and through the other dimensions. It wasn’t going to be long before we knew your whereabouts. My Master is gathering their army as we speak; all I ask is, when the time is right, that you shall serve my Master.”
The crew look astonished and confused, till they all stopped as they watched Tiberius laugh his head off; wiping a tear down his check. He coughed loudly to gain his breath.
“My sea dogs; that was a good joke! And pray tell; what happens if I refuse?”
As everyone was waiting for their response, the Spice Maidens and the second in command joined them on the Stern. Nutmeg was amazed by the high view, while Tarragon was terrified, clearly stating she was afraid of heights. Cinnamon was looking at the situation, till the droid spoke out loud.
“Then you will meet the fate of Queen Zorabel and all of Scourge Bay.”
That last bit hit a spark amongst everyone. Coriander didn’t wait to unsheathe her blade; looking dead serious. Even Nutmeg’s positive glance, was covered with a deadly stare.
“What have you done to our Mother?” She coldly asked, as her other sisters looked shocked and angered.
The screen droids then turned towards the sisters.
“She refused to join the army and so, we deemed her useless. Scourge Bay now lays to rest in ashes. You will meet the same fate, if you do not join us. Now what say you?”
A moments silence; nobody could speak. Scourge Bay; their mother. Queen Zorabel; Mother and friend. Suddenly Tiberius jumped up and caught one of the tiny droids with simply one hand. Everyone and the droids were left shocked as the tiny droid was lowered; trying everything to get out of his grip. He cupped it between his two big giant hands. Then in seconds, the droid was being crushed. The robot simply became lifeless as it was chucked down to the floor in pieces. Tiberius simply wiped his hands on his yellow jacket.
The screen droid alarmed the others; which all droids moved into motion and joined together in a group; lasers at the ready. The crew felt every beam light all focused on Tiberius. But their Captain simply continued to raise his hand up. Tiberius smirked.
“So, you come waltzing to my ship, order me to obey this “Master” and destroy the foundation of all Pirates, and EXPECT ME TO COMPLY?? You’re as mad as a Sea Serpent! We may be pirates, but to those, they are family. Ladies- “
He suddenly spoke, raising his voice for the girls to hear.
“I think we should show these Vermin, what us pirates do best. Shall we?”
In that moment, the girls were ready for a fight. Tiberius’s hand dropped down as he gave the command.
“THROW THESE STOWAWAYS OFF MY SHIP!!”
All Chaos was thrown in as each side charged and attacked. The girls speeded toward the other side of the Stern as Tiberius took a small gun from his jacket and shot down one of the droids. The droids attacked with their lasers as Tiberius jumped out of the way. His crew fired and blasting everything with their shooters. The droids flew and dodged their shots. The crew fell back as there wasn’t much anywhere for cover.
The second in command kept Tarragon and Nutmeg away from danger as they hid under deck. The other sisters charged in and punched their way through; Coriander taking stride with her sword.
“They will all pay for this with my sword!” She cried out in fury.
Pepper and Cinnamon dodged the firing and landed one blow with another droid as they both collided together in their punches. But Cinnamon spotted that Tiberius was stuck in a corner; covering his face away from the blasts.
“I’ll go help the Captain!” She spoke, while her sister dodged a laser blast.
Nodding her head, she continued the onslaught as Cinnamon run and dodged the attacks. Just in time, before Tiberius was going to be shot from behind. Tiberius turned around to see Cinnamon had taken down the unexpected sneak attack. He looked worn out as he wiped the sweat from his brow. He looked down at his gun and cursed at it; throwing it away.
“This isn’t looking good lass! You girls should take the escape pod and get out of here!” He shouted towards her, pulling out another small shooter from his jacket.
“Not gonna happen!” Cinnamon shouted back, covering from her hiding spot.
The blast erupted the area, creating a hole in the ship. Some of the nearby crew were flown away; almost falling over the edge of the ship. Cinnamon spotted the distress and ran towards them. Landing down heavy, she just caught one of the crew members in time, before he plummeted to his doom. Pulling him back up hoverer was tricky as there was nothing to help herself pull back. Then in an instant, Tiberius was behind her, lifting them both up to their feet. More blasts started to rip through the ship as they ducked for cover.
“We need lady luck on our side pronto!” Tiberius called out, ducking from an incoming laser shot.
In that moment, Cinnamon had an idea.
Tiberius turned to see that some of the droids were still interested in the star post. Were they going to steal it? The Captain charged and slammed one of the droids with his strong elbow; bending the droid and smashing down in a bundle.
“Get off my Star post!” Tiberius shouted as he raised his gun, shooting the other droids.
However, the droids were quick to avoid. It was like being bothered by flies.
“Captain! That talisman; throw it to me!” Cinnamon shouted to him.
Tiberius jumped away from the attack and turned to see her.
“What? Why?”
“Because it may help us win this fight!” She responded, slamming her fist on another droid.
At first, he was hesitant, till he shouted in frustration. He tucked under his jacket and pulled out the Eye of Rye. He threw it towards her. She nodded towards him as she caught it and suddenly made a dash back to below deck. Confused as to what she was up to, Tiberius was easily distracted by the droids; as they continued to prester towards the Star post.
“Lads! Ladies! Time to send them to the Plank!” He commanded.
Plunders crew continued to look up, feeling the thudding and booming of explosions. Their heads twisted and turned as they tried to see anything through their cell bars. Dust started to fall down from above them. None of them had a clue what was happening.
However, Plunder kept quiet as he sat down cross legged on the floor. He had thrown the broken chair in anger and looked very sorry for himself. Suddenly he heard footsteps fast approaching his cell. It was way too light for Tiberius heavy boots as he looked up. He couldn’t help but smirk towards Cinnamon as she came to a sudden halt. He lowered his hat to her.
“Ah come to see an old beggar before he’s washed off from the universe?”
“Don’t be daft you old cod fish. The ship is under attacked!” Cinnamon shouted, looking panicked.
But instead of being concerned, Plunder simply laughed. He stood up, wiping away the dust from his long jacket coat.
“And what could you possibly want from me? I’m not much of use to anyone right now.”
“That’s why I brought this.” Cinnamon spoke out, pulling out the Eye of Rye from her pocket.
The Captain bolted towards her, his tiny bird almost falling off his head.
“Aye when did you sneak that off Tiberius?”
“He didn’t; he trusted me. Which I why I’m trusting you with it. After all, I do owe you for saving my sister. Just hope I’m making the right decision.” She spoke as she passed the ancient artifact through the metal bars.
Plunder held it gently in his hand, his metal hook carefully touching the bright decorated jewel. But what was it? A bracelet? A necklace? Or a brooch? He turned it over to its back and saw a small latch. As he opened it, a thick golden chain popped out. Finally, answering his question, he removed his hat and placed the necklace over his large bulk neck. It was a tight squeeze; way too small for his comfort. Then he waited. Cinnamon waited.
“Is something meant to happen? Is your curse broken?”
However, Plunder looked as confused as her.
“Maybe it has a button or something- “
Then suddenly in that instant, the Eye of Rye shone bright. Cinnamon backed off and shield her eyes from the sudden shine. All she could hear was Plunder shouting. Then just as it came, it suddenly vanished. Squinting his eyes, Plunder looked dazed from the burst of light. He looked a little wobbly and confused; starting to become steady on his one good foot.
“What happened? Did it work? You feel any different?” Cinnamon asked.
Plunder said nothing as he checked over his hands, his clothes; his full body. He didn’t look any different. Curious, the Captain walked towards the entrance of his cell. On the other side through the bars, was the password code.
“Don’t suppose you know it?” Plunder asked.
“No. Blast! I should have asked; I can run back and” Cinnamon spoke.
“Hang on, let’s have a little test, shall we?”
Cinnamon watched in awe as Plunder reached out and started to press the keys on the dashboard. He was completely pressing buttons by random, till suddenly the bars were released and disappeared. Cinnamon stood back in shock.
“How in blazes did you know the passcode?”
“I didn’t! Wait, I got to keep trying this!” Plunder called out in glee as he past Cinnamon and ran down to the cell of his crew.
His crew looked up and were astonished to see the Captain moving freely. They all stood up and headed to the entrance. Simpson smiled with delight.
“Boss! How did you escape?” Simpson asked.
“Step back lads!”
His crew all moved back as Plunder went to their cell dashboard. Just like last time, Cinnamon and the team watched in shock as Plunder pressed any buttons he could think of. In a second, their cell was freed; his crew shouted in victory.
Captain Plunder never felt so lucky in his life! Plunder waved his hat around in glee; his tiny bird flapping around in delight.
“At last! The curse is finally lifted! I AM FREE!”
His crew gathered around him, congratulating him. Cinnamon however noticed something was off with Gordon and Rudransh but before she could think, Plunder placed his hat firmly on his head, looking determined.
“Now lads! Grab our weapons!”
“But Captain! We don’t know where they got them hidden; how can we possibly know where we going?” One of the crew pondered.
“Ah but with this; lady luck will be my guide. Let’s move!”
The crew erupted with action and marched their way through the prison ward. Cinnamon wanted to go back and help her sisters and yet, she couldn’t help but to be interested. And just like the artifact was created for, Plunder not only found the room with ease, but also decoded the lock for their weapons. However, she couldn’t help but think he was going over the top, when he opened the loot to all the containers; holding Tiberius spare weapons. Watching them upload and prepare, Cinnamon couldn’t help herself but to take a gun or two. Anything to give them the upper hand.
“You ready?” Cinnamon asked.
“More than ready!” Plunder smiled, holding a large style bazooka.
His crew looked deadly and powerful. They were ready for a good showdown…
As the crew celebrated their escape, Gordon and Rudransh kept behind. As they loaded their weapons and followed the crew, they managed to get a good look at the prized possession around Plunder’s neck.
“No doubt that the Eye of Rye is causing all this. With that kind of power, I could win back everything with Luck. Then I can regain my title and my wealth.”
“You have a plan?” Gordon asked, loading a large blaster.
“Get the eye and dash for one of the escape pods. The rest we will take care of itself, thanks to the artifact.”
“But how are we gonna get it from Plunder?”
“I’m sure I can think of something.” Rudransh spoke, with a sinister tone in his voice.
He looked down at the shooter he carried and started to convert a plan. However, as he finished preparing and running toward the stern, he could feel the Spice Maiden’s presence lurking around him. She will be one problem to deal with; all it will take is the perfect timing and a whole lot of luck…
Tiberius and his crew were at a standstill. The blasts were coming too fast as they hid under any cover that was available. The crew were also split up, making it harder to communicate and give orders. The second in command was holding the entrance to the dock with the other sisters, blasting any droid coming closer. Tiberius shouted in anger as he saw the droids starting to touch the star post.
They were drilling and screwing some of the parts. Were they dissembling it? Fury bottled over Tiberius as he tried to shoot them down. However, one of his shots, was followed by a round of shots from the droids. He couldn’t do anything.
Then suddenly the lasers stopped. They could hear more firepower but from where?
Tiberius managed to come out of his cover and almost cursed out loud. Plunder and his crew were charging right into the battleground. Blasts, bullets and lasers erupted the whole stern. Droids were being hit left, right and centre.
“Plunder! You scurvy dog; those are my weapons!!” Tiberius shouted.
Plunder moved closer to him and threw him a small gun.
“Permission to come aboard?” Plunder joked.
Hesitantly, Tiberius didn’t have much of a choice.
“Fine. But you’re not off the hook Plunder!” He shouted, loaded and ready to fire.
Both Captains made a full charge, heading straight to the Starpost. Meanwhile Simpson was blasting each droid with a large machine gun; way too big for a small cartoon cat to carry. He yelled in victory, wearing camouflage make up and a black bandana over his head.
Cinnamon managed to get her other sisters to safety as they duked out of the firing range. The second in command ordered them to retreat. But as they made sure each other was safe, Cinnamon couldn’t stop thinking;
Where did those two brutes go?
Gordon and Rudransh kept cover as the droids and the Pirates were duking it out. Droids exploded as they smashed onto the ground. Lasers and bullets erupted the skies. Gordon followed the huge plum as his master moved from one area to another. None of the crew bothered to notice them as they were distracted by the droids.
“Who are they?” Gordan asked as he looked down at the unexpected visitors.
“Who cares? Now where is that smelly brute?” Rudransh snapped back at him.
He turned and stopped. Just a few meters away from him, Plunder and Tiberius were near to the Star post fighting more droids. Both of them had never seen or heard of a star post, but that was beside the point. Their target was the Eye on Rye located on Plunders neck. But how do they get close?
They watched as the Captain took aim and fired. Each shot was a hit; was that pure talent? Or pure luck? They weren’t so sure. However, something appeared to Rudransh that made him have a brilliant idea as he saw the stupid cat yelling all sorts as he continued to fire bullet rounds. Rudransh turned to Gordon.
“That fool will be the key.” Rudransh smiled.
Gordon didn’t understand but as he explained the plan, Gordon thought it wasn’t a bad idea. He looked towards the small cartoon character and stood up. Ignoring the blasts, Gordon simply ran towards Simpson.
Rudransh watched in anticipation.
Simpson was enjoying every minute of it as he lashed out all of the bullets. He felt like a hero as he blasted each droid in the sky. He ignored the clanging of fallen bullets on the ground as he was having way too much fun. So much so, that he didn’t hear the footsteps heading towards him.
Unbeknownst, Simpson yelled out loud as he was lifted into the air. Confused, he dropped the gun.
“Hey! What gives?”
Then suddenly, he was crushed by his arms and feet. Instead of screaming in agony, the cat simply shouted his complaints as his body was crushed, twisted and bent. The cartoon was bent into the shape of…. a boomerang.
“I don’t get it! Why do you want me to be a bo- “
But before he could turn and see the attacker, a huge force threw his body into the sky. With a mighty heave ho, Simpson was thrown right through the chaos. Spinning around, the cartoon yelled as he had no control of what direction he was going. He had no idea what he was looking at except for hearing the loud noise of guns blazing below.
Simpson couldn’t help but feel sick as he saw the world around him continued to spin…
Gordon watched at his attempt as Simpson was thrown through the sky. He watched the self-made boomerang make it course straight to its destination. Plunder had no idea he was going to get attacked from the side. Seconds passed and both Gordon and Rudransh waited in anticipation.
Suddenly, the Captain’s wheeled foot started to slip on the metal surface, making the Captain sway a tad to the left. This move missed Simpson as he continued to spin away from Plunder. Gordon cursed, hoping the second hit would be successful. However, as the cat made his return, Plunder ducked from another droid attacked and dodged Simpson’s second blow.
Gordon simply watched in dismay to see Simpson simply fly off and collide with a bunch of droids. Then plummeting to the ground along with the debris. The reverted cat, looking very green under his whiskers.
“I don’t want to go on that ride again.” He moaned as he suddenly felt the need to be sick.
Gordon then ran back off to Rudransh. He was just as shocked as frustrated as he was.
“How the Gods did he manage that? That throw was bound to hit him one way or another.”
“It must be the artifact. Then it seems we must to go to Plan B.”
“And what is that?”
“Desperation.” Rudransh stood up, looking determined.
Gordon watched as he ran off with his weapon on toll. Just what was that idiot thinking next?
Meanwhile, Cinnamon and Coriander returned to the stern. Their sisters were safe but they certainly weren’t leaving. But as they returned to the fight, they spotted Simpson looking unwell. Both of them got to him for aid.
“What happened? You look rubbish.” Cinnamon asked.
“I don’t know. One minute I was blasting droids; then next I was thrown like a boomerang. Lucky, I didn’t hit the Captain and- “but suddenly the cat stopped as he speeded off to be sick again.
Both sisters looked toward the battle as it was at its peak and spotted Rudransh and Gordon running past the crew members. They weren’t helping at all. Then they looked towards Tiberius and Plunder who were easily distracted by the fight.
“There goes our loot. We better retrieve them before they do something reckless.” Coriander spoke out, raising her sword.
Cinnamon followed in pursuit. Something in her gut was telling her to hurry up; something big was going to go down…
Plunder felt invincible. None of the droids were hitting him and every shot he made, hit the target in clean sight. He roared with laughter as he danced around the ship, dodging their rounds with such ease. He didn’t even need to look at them as he merrily took shots from behind him and any direction he wanted.
Then he noticed Tiberius was in trouble as he was surrounded by the robots, ready to take fire. Plunder raised his gun and took one shot. Tiberius watched in awe as that one shot, took down one droid, which collided and exploded into another. He stood motionless as the circle of flames and destruction repeated all around him. He looked to Plunder in confusion.
“How in damnation did you do that?”
Both Captains walked up to another; Plunder taking it in his stride.
“Maybe I have skills you can never beat.” Plunder smirked.
“Now I know that is a dead-on lie!” Tiberius shouted, raising his finger towards him.
But then something caught his eye. He spotted the fat pirate he saw before hiding behind one of the poles. Was he hiding like a coward? No, something was off. He gasped out loud as he saw the pirate took out his weapon and aimed straight at Plunder. In that moment, Plunder was too obvious to not see the sudden danger.
“Plunder! Look out!”
Tiberius shouted out as he speeded towards him. Plunder was confused as the Captain charged right at him and was sent pushed down to the ground. Both of them fell to the ground, with Tiberius covering Plunder.
“Get off me you big brute!” Plunder shouted in anger.
But as both Captains wrestled to get up, Tiberius continued to kneel down. He was clutching his left shoulder; stain of blood was spilling down his arm. Plunder was in dismay as he attended to the Captain. However, he stopped when he heard a second click of a barrel of a gun. Silent and cold, Plunder stood up and turned behind him. Right there, with a gun directly to his head was Rudransh.
The large plump looked dangerous, as he grinned.
“Give me the Talisman Captain! You may have all the luck of the world, but he hasn’t!” He shouted as he looked toward Tiberius.
Plunder was at a standstill. While everyone else was battling the droids, Plunder was left with this crossroad. Quickly gazing towards Tiberius, he needed the medic. He looked straight towards the Captains eyes, as he winced from the pain.
“Don’t be a fool Plunder! You know he will shoot me as soon as you give it to him!” Tiberius argued.
Plunder looked towards Rudransh. He felt his hand tighten, his whole body shaking of adrenaline and frustration. Then he gave one deep sigh and used his hook to take off the Talisman. Tiberius snarled and shook his head in anger. Plunder held it out to Rudransh with his hook.
Rudransh smiled as he kept the gun directly to Plunder as he moved towards the artifact. It was simply out of reach, dangling on the long chain. His fingers almost touched it; until suddenly Plunder stepped back.
“You want it you big loaf; go and get it!”
Tiberius watched as Plunder heaved the Talisman into the air. Rudransh yelled as he turned to see it flying in the air. That was the distraction he needed for Plunder to throw a punch right into the face of the big brute. He yelled as he was thrown to the ground by Plunders good fist. The gun was sent flying; along with the Artefact.
They watched as the Eye fell to the floor, right to the feet of Gordon. He picked it up gracefully in his hands, looking at all of its beauty. Rudransh got himself up to his feet, holding his busted nose with his hand.
“Good work! Now bring it to me!”
However, Gordon ignored him as he stared into the object. The ex-commander was silent, and then started to smile. Plunder could see the menacing look of greed in his eyes. He picked up his gun and took aim; the fool was going to use it on himself. But before he could take fire, the ship exploded from the side wing.
The droids were destroying everything in sight. The whole ship started to rock and lose attitude; tilting to its side. The whole ship erupted with alarms and gave a massive moan as it tilted. Everyone yelled as they started to fall down, grabbing onto anything they could grasp on as their bodies angled along with the ship. The sisters screamed as they held onto dear life. The second in command, called them towards the open doors. The girls managed to get back inside, but the others were trapped.
Tiberius clung onto a metal pole, crying out from the sudden pain. Plunder rolled forwards, with his wheeled foot gaining momentum. He was heading straight towards Gordon, as he tried to keep his feet on the ground. Both of them collided with one another as they fell to the side of the ship. Plunder saw that the brute had lost his grip on the Eye as he watched it fall down. The Captain tried to reach out to catch it, but also was Gordon.
Both of them were falling almost to the end of the ship. Passing by them was the fallen droids, simply falling off the side of the ship, into the unknown below. Gordon tried to reach out for the necklace, till he saw the end of the ship. Gordon simply screamed as he fell off to the abyss belong. Plunder tried to reach out for the necklace, but after witnessing the doom that bestowed upon him, he tried to grab anything he could touch. Debris was falling on all sides; there was nothing he could do. He watch as the Eye of Rye fell off the ship, falling to the skies below.
All his luck was lost and now, he was about to join Gordon as his body fell over the ship. Till suddenly something grabbed hold of his wrist, stopping him from falling. He looked around and saw that Simpson had turned himself to a full-scale rope. His hands were wrapped around Plunder; his bottom half was being held up by Tiberius.
He felt his body being pulled up by the both of them as he continued to look down; feeling the loss of his luck. The Eye of Rye was never to be seen again…. until he suddenly was thrown back to see it floating back towards him. He wiggled as he watched one of the droids holding it and taking it away.
“Hey you mingle bag of bolts! That’s mine!”
“Will you quit wriggling around! I can’t hold you for much longer!” Tiberius shouted from above.
Plunder looked up and saw one of Tiberius crew members assisting the group. However, he looked worried.
“Captain! The ship is in danger; we need to make an emergency dimensional portal before the droids can remove the Starpost.”
“Then set coordinates to Scourge Bay!” Tiberius commanded.
“But Captain; we’re still on the port! We could fall into a dimensional rift!”
“I’m not letting these cretin destroy my ship! Activate on my command; get everyone to their stations!”
Suddenly the whole ship went into full alarm as the large floating weapon started to change. Plunder watched as the wings started to shorten; the body of the ship started to shrink and merge into itself. He felt his body being pulled up by Tiberius. But right in front of him was the droid holding the Eye of Rye. Swearing and cursing, he tried to take shots, but of course all of them missed. But then the droid started to aim towards Plunder.
“Oh no!” Plunder shouted; hearing the high pitch sound of a fire gathering power.
Plunder closed his good eye, when he suddenly felt his body being lifted up. The shot just missed him in seconds. Opening his good eye he looked up. He saw Tiberius, Simpson and the whole of the crew pulling him up in good time. He couldn’t believe his luck. As he was pulled up, he saw the whole ship ready for a space jump. The whole lot of them stormed back inside, ready for the impact.
The Starpost reacted with a strong beam of light from the star; getting brighter with more juice as it prepared to jump dimension.
Then the countdown began; 3…2…1.
Go! The Starpost erupted in light as the ship was beamed and flying hundreds of miles per second. Everyone inside screamed by the impact; falling down to the ground. Plunder tried to get back up, but the sheer G-force kept him solid on the ground. However, another shout was overheard, as he watched Filch the ghost fly with force, from one wall to the next. Just as he appeared, he disappeared.
“Captain! The ship has been severely damaged! If we don’t get the parts fixed, the jump could take us off course!”
“Then we could land in any dimension! Pirates! Get to work! Plunder! You lot help too!” Tiberius gave the command.
The second in command took over the orders as Tiberius got treated for his wounds. The crew slowly helped each other get to their feet. Swaying along with the ship, they awkwardly ran down the corridors. All the sisters were exhausted, along with the crew. But as Simpson gave out the bolts and wenches, everyone got to work. Tiberius looked at Plunder, who was still silent and dazed.
“Hey! I need your help as well you bucket of slime!”
“But what if the bad luck has come back? Do you really want to risk me fixing your ship?” Plunder moaned.
Suddenly he was caught surprised as Tiberius threw him a spanner; only just catching it with his good hand.
“For my men and yours; you better be worth the risk! Now hop to it!”
Everyone on the ship was in full operations; tinkering, fixing and repairing. Every moment wasted, the danger of the ship collapsing drew nearer. All crew members assisted and fixed the damages, while Tiberius looked at his dash boards on what else needed work on. Plunder kept silent about seeing Filch; he may need his help later on. Tiberius called on the tenfold where everyone need to be.
Tarragon moaned as her nails were broken, her hair was a mess. Then suddenly she bolted upright as she looked down at her white dress, coating with a large oil spill.
“I’m not the kind of girl for this job! Can I take a break? I need to go to the ladies room!” She called out.
Pepper and Coriander stopped their work and looked at her.
“Better be quick about it. We need you to stop this oil leak from the pipes.”
The maiden was relieved of the tiny break as she ran down the corridor, to the bathrooms. As she entered inside, it was quiet except for the continued danger sirens emitting across the ship. But as she opened the toilet door, she yelled out. For Rudransh was there hiding. But before she could scream out, the large plump raised his gun towards her. She raised her hands into the air.
“Not another word from you or I will happily carve a pretty smile on that face.”
Meanwhile on another part of the ship, some of Tiberius crew spotted something alarming. Some of the ship had open gaps; that without being sealed, they be sucked into the dimension rift in seconds. As they tried to seal the ship up, something quickly jumped inside.
Before the crew could turn to face it, they were lifted and thrown away through the open holes; vanishing off the ship and disappearing through the emptiness thrift. No one heard their last cries.
Picking up their weapons Gordon turned around and saw that he was quite alone…
Filch finally stopped spinning as he felt the cobwebs in his floating mind be dusted away. Now he was lost again in the huge ship. This ship was large compared to the old relic of Plunders. The ghost approached the new environment with caution; if spotted it could be bad for his crew pals. Also investigating in Cognito, may provide him the inside coop.
However, he still kept his cover; no matter how crazy this journey was taking him. Suddenly he spotted he was somewhere private; a bathroom to be precise. He could see a silhouette of someone as he closed his eyes and called out, looking frantic and embarrassed.
“I’m so sorry madam; I didn’t- “
But then he caught his voice. He witnessed one of the Maidens raising her hands up, walking slowly out of the bathroom. Behind her was Rudransh, holding a gun behind her. He wanted to help, but how? Cursing he dashed through the corridors, no longer fussed at hiding due to the urgent emergency. Crew members shouted and yelled from the outburst.
He had to find the Captain now…
The Spice Maidens continued to work alongside the crew and Plunder. Tasks were being done quickly but the damage needed way more time to truly fix. Plunder wiped the sweat from his brow as he took off his Captain’s hat and long overcoat, fixing the damaged pipes from above the ceiling. Then suddenly, the alarms stopped as the lighting around the corridors started to back up.
“We got most of our security back now. Looks like the emergency power generator is up running as well; everything seems to be stable for now.” The second in command’s voice boomed around the ship.
Simpson wiped his hands on a dirty rag and threw it down as Plunder stood down from the ladder. He was looking around at everyone’s work as the girls joined up.
“Hmm? One of yours is missing? Where’s the moaning one?”
“She did go to the little girls room but hasn’t come back since.” Cinnamon spoke up.
Suddenly the girls didn’t feel too comfortable, Plunder could sense something was up. Then all at once, the whole crew shouted as an intruder rose up from the very floor they stood on. Screams echoed, but Plunder tutted his head.
“Filch! About damn time you showed yourself!”
The ghost spun around to see Plunder. His face however was not calm; but of panic.
“This is bad Captain! I’ve just checked the other wing. Rudransh has got the Maiden!”
The sister raised their weapons in unison, looking furious. Plunder took out his sword, suddenly alerted. Everyone was that preoccupied of the ship repairs, that no one bothered to look for Rudransh. He was deemed no longer of interest; not without Gordon with him. Suddenly the second in command booming voice, echoed over the corridor.
“One of the escape pods has been activated!”
“That traitor is gonna jump ship!” Plunder shouted as he headed in that direction.
The Maidens all joined with him, on the double. But as they headed their way towards the escape pods, another announcement erupted.
“Captain Plunder! Another escape pod has been activated on the west wing.”
But how? And by whom?
“Blast! Then we need to split up! Filch and Simpson, take the crew to west wing; I will go with the girls to find Rudransh.”
The team decided to divide and conquer; but Plunder couldn’t help but to stay with the girls. Rudransh has shown his true colours and was, without showing, worried for their sister. Cinnamon thanked him as he joined them; being directed by the second in command giving them directions. Simpson and Filch took the crew to the west wing…
The first Team approached the west wing with such a fast pace, but as the group turned around the corner, they were halted by gun fire. Filch hovered around the corner to see Gordon pressing buttons frantically as he rose the gun towards them. The ghost simply moved towards him, ignoring the bullets passing through his faint figure. Gordon was showing frustration as the ghost clearly looked unimpressed.
“Give yourself up Gordon; there’s nowhere left to go.”
“And what makes you think a ghost is gonna stop me?” Gordon laughed as the latch to the escape pod opened.
But before Filch could speak, the cat was frantically shouting at him. Turning around, he saw Simpson shouting towards him; begging him to flee. Confused, Filch turned around to see that Gordon take one final shot before making his escape. He shot towards the fixed repairs of the ship.
The wall broke and collapsed; sucking through anything into the rift jump. The crew shouted as flew themselves to the walls, grabbing onto anything as they felt their bodies being pulled to the hole. Filch was horrified as he felt his body be wooshed through the hole by strong winds and turbulence, trying to grab anything he could reach. But was left defeated, as the ghost couldn’t help himself.
Simpson could only watch as Filch was soaked through, leaving the ship and entering into the dimension rift.
Tears fell down his eyes as he no longer saw his friend. Then he turned to hear the engines of the escape pod roar. He could only watch as Gordon made his escape, flying the pod into the drift. He too had vanished…
There was something wrong as they made their way to the escape pods; Plunder couldn’t shake it off. Sirens erupted the ship as the commander spoke out.
“Plunder! Another part of the ship has been destroyed; the west wing!”
The Captain stopped in his tracks; for his crew were down there. The girls stopped and watched him question his moves. Coriander saved him time.
“You have your crew to think about; go and help them.”
Plunder looked at the girls and then tip his hat to them as he headed toward the west wing. The sisters continued onwards…
But as they got there, all of them stopped. In front of the escape pod, Rudransh had a gun in one hand and Tarragon in the other. He was yanking her hand from behind her, pulling it tightly. She yelled and tried to hit his head. But her moves were faint as Rudransh started to get more irritated.
Coriander unsheathed her sword.
“Get your filthy hands off our sister!”
Rudransh was caught surprised as he turned around to see them. He then dragged Tarragon to her knees, placing the gun to the back of head.
“I will, if you let me go.” The brute spoke in confidence.
The girls wanted to rip off that smirk off his face. Tarragon’s face was smothered with wet makeup and tears. She looked at her sisters with desperation. Pepper’s fist relaxed as she looked at Coriander, who sheathed her sword. The sisters withdrew as they watched Rudransh open the hatch for the escape pod. Tarragon was too scared to look behind her as she heard his footsteps moving away.
Rudransh stood inside and sat down on the seat.
“Don’t be too disappointed ladies; I’m sure we will meet again.” He smirked as he pressed the release button.
The girls immediately rushed to Tarragon as they watch the pod leave the ship. Tarragon was sobbing with Nutmeg as the other sisters watched their bounty go, watching Rudransh disappear into the rift…
“You can count on that!” Cinnamon hissed as she clenched her fists…
The whole ship was in disarray as crew members were scattered to repair. But as Plunder ran towards the west wing, the pit in his stomach wouldn’t shake off, till he saw Simpson. They were still clinging on for dear life as the open hole sucked them toward it. Plunder marched forwards and slammed some debris against the hole. It wasn’t much, but gave them enough time to make their escape and seal the corridor shut. The crew looked battered and out of breath.
“Where’s Filch? Thought he was with you?” Plunder wondered.
But as the cartoon cat turned, tears were still pouring out of his eyes. He looked towards his own crew, with saddened faces.
“It’s Filch; he’s gone”
“What in seabass are you talking about?” The Captain spoke.
“Filch, he got caught in the rift. Gordon set up a trap and Filch…he...” But Simpson couldn’t finish his sentence as he took a large tissue in his hand and blew his nose harshly.
Plunder looked down at took off his Pirates hat. The rest of the crew did the same to remember their fallen friend. But then he suddenly roared with anger.
“What a damn minute! He’s already dead you buffoons!”
“But Captain; he’s lost, gone forever.” One of the crew spoke up.
“Ah but you’re mistaken! Crossing through dimensional rifts through a Starpost, if anywhere to fall through it, it will simply spit them out to the nearest Starpost. The cretin will be fine. But that pesky Gordon; knew he wouldn’t go that easily.”
“Wait Captain, what about the Maidens, I thought you went with them?” Another member wondered.
“Don’t bother!”
All of them turned around to see the Spice Maidens. Cinnamon and Pepper stood forwards, while Tarragon was still sobbing with Coriander and Nutmeg.
“He escaped too.” Pepper spoke in anger.
Simpson couldn’t help but feel concerned for the sister, till Nutmeg gave a thumbs up towards him, smiling. Plunder was upheaved by it all.
“First, I lose the Eye, then I lose those two with a broken ship. What could get worse?”
Suddenly the second in command spoke up.
“Crew, we are preparing for departure out of the dimensional rift; get ready to port at Scourge Bay.”
Everyone dashed and made their way to the control room. As they entered, Tiberius was resting at the Captain’s chair, resting his arm in a bandaged sleeve. His crew returned to their duties while the rest of them looked onwards to the front view. Everything started to slow down as the energy level of the Starpost started to wither. Then in one pull, the ship escaped through travel and came to a halt in the skies.
The sudden stop caused some of the crew to heave forwards and fall down. Others felt the tug in their stomachs as they suddenly became unwell.
“Land ho!!” Tiberius shouted.
But as everyone looked out, the dark sky was erupted with flames and smoke. Everyone looked down. Some gasped and other cried. Scourge Bay was nothing but a burnt-out pirate village, ashes fell down from the skies as all the shops, buildings and bars were engulfed in flames. The Spice Maidens were in shock; both Captains were outraged.
“Set the ship down! We need to know who’s still out there.” Tiberius commanded.
As the broken ship made its way down gently to the port, everyone thought the same thing; where was Queen Zorabel?
The crew tread carefully through the once busy cobble streets of Scourge bay. Planks of burnt wood scattered across their path. Fires scored everything it touched; with no one in sight. They had to cover their mouths, as the smoke fumes were dense and intoxicating. There was nothing left of the buildings; windows smashed; doors wide open. The Spice Maidens all looked for any survivors, but came with nothing. All were quiet as Tiberius walked back to the group with his crew and second in command.
“Nothing; not even a gold coin. They must have attacked and looted everything in the night.” Tiberius spoke up.
Simpson returned with a pair of self-made binoculars; his eyes reverting back to their normal size. He and Nutmeg had just returned from the port.
“Nothing Captain. No sign of anyone. Do you think any of them escape?”
Plunder was silent as he gazed over his old home. Memories he could recall in every cabin, bar and shop. Now it was nothing but ash and fire. Devasted, he removed his hat, scratching his head. The tiny bird cooed to his shoulder, looking just as heartbroken. Then he moved onwards.
“Plunder, where are you going?” Pepper shouted.
“Don’t be fooled lass. This is just the surface.” Plunder spoke without looking back.
Confused, the others followed pursuit. Plunder took them towards the end of the port town, where they came upon the cemetery. Gravestones littered across the long grass plains; some ancient while other barely new. Tarragon kept away as shivers were sent down her spine.
Coriander spoke up.
“Plunder, this is not the time to respect the fallen.”
To her annoyance, she was simply ignored as Plunder continued to survey around; especially at a corner of the cemetery. All bundled together, statues of high ranked Pirates and Pirate royalty sat upon their final resting place. As they looked, Tiberius could recall every name of the deceased; including the bold statue of daring Captain Blackbeak. He instantly lowered his head in respect to his old Captain. However, he became shocked as Plunder simply walked toward it and started to rub his hands all over it. But then he paused, overhearing Plunder babbling.
“If I can remember, it should be around…here!”
A faint click echoed in the silence as Plunder pressed the Captain’s long beak. It triggered the stone slab to move aside; making everyone jump back. Plunder walked around to the entrance, where the slab revealed stairs leading downwards.
“Captain Blackbeak had many secret passages; just in case of raids. After you ladies.” Plunder persuaded as he bowed to the girls.
Everyone followed through the small passage, as Plunder closed the slab behind them. This triggered a series of torches at the sides, leading their path. The girls continued onwards as the passage went further deep into the land. Simpson took one of the torches and ventured onwards, when he suddenly stopped. He could hear voices ahead.
“Hey Captain, I can hear something. Sounds like a click.”
But before Plunder could shout, the clicking sound came from a dozens of guns; all aiming for Simpsons head. Pirates all gathered around them in moments. But as soon as they saw their faces with the firelight, they all dropped their weapons. One of the pirates stepped forward, throwing a spit to the side as he walked.
“Well just what we need; more bad luck. What are you doing here Plunder? And, Captain Tiberius?” He wondered, as the Pirate was thrown back to see such a legend.
Tiberius moved forward towards the hidden pirates.
“Seems you lot have had a long night boys.” Tiberius spoke.
The Pirates sheathed their weapons and took them to the main chamber. The secret base revealed a small array of made-up tents; some littered with weapons and others with supplies. Families young and old gathered around to the fire pits to keep warm. Others were laid onto small beds; bandages wrapped around injuries. The girls moved onwards, hoping to find a clue of their mother. Till the pirate they spoke before, pointed towards the large tent at the end of the self-made tent village. As they all made inside, they saw Zorabel sitting on her chair, talking amongst other pirates. Then as they stepped inside, everyone looked up.
“Hello girls; enjoyed your little vacation?” Zorabel smiled.
The Maidens simply dropped everything as they embraced their mother. Nutmeg and Tarragon were in tears as they hugged her tightly. Pepper kissed her mother on the forehead while Cinnamon and Coriander simply placed their hand over her shoulders.
“Let’s say we brought some souvenirs back.” Cinnamon spoke.
Zorabel looked up to see and burst into laughter; so much so her pet lizard almost fell off her lap.
“Well, if my eyes have finally gone or I’ve lost the plot! Never expected to see you boys; especially together.” She smirked.
Tiberius and Plunder simply looked at each other and huffed, folding their arms in disagreement. Zorabel called upon her assistant Tom; a tall strong build figure, who wore a distinguished butler suit. He lowered his top hat towards her as he moved her wooden bench chair away from the table, to greet them.
“Zorabel. How long has it been; ten, twenty years?” Tiberius spoke.
“Hah! And you’re still as stubborn as usual but seems you finally got what you wanted. To find this bag of dead fish here” She joked, looking towards Plunder.
Then she spotted Tiberius banged sleeve.
“Seems like you got yourself in a truffle as well? I can get someone to check that wound over. As for you Plunder? Surprised your still alive. Word from the guilds said your ship was bested; stranded on some tiny island.”
Plunder wanted to explain everything; including who took his ship down. But arguments had to wait.
“Looks like you’ve had trouble with the tides here. Was it those pesky metal fleas?”
“Aye unfortunately. We managed to hold them back and make our escape down here. Many however were not so lucky; taken by those things. They were huddled like sardines in a tin in trucks and taken away. Tom here managed to get me down here to safety.”
Tom simply folded his arms and nodded, gloating.
“You lot could do with a break; take a load off and get some rest.” Zorabel suggested.
“Not so fast; I have unfinished business to attend to.” Tiberius spoke up.
He unsheathed his small gun from under his coat and pointed straight toward Plunder. The Spice Maidens and the crew instantly drew out their weapons.
“Really? You not gonna let this slide, are you?” Plunder shouted in frustration.
“You think all this has made me forget; after you kicked me out of my home? There is a black hole with your name on it!”
“I told you once and will say it for all infinity! I never set you up! I ran away like a wee small seal pup looking for its mother!”
However, both Captains knew no matter what the truth was, words will not ease this argument. But actions.
“If you think I’m gonna just let you take me, you’ll have to drag me down to the bottom of the sea to take me there.” Plunder shouted back, drawing his gun towards Tiberius.
Tom and the other pirates moved back as they were in the middle of a crossfire. Both Captains took aim, ready to fire. Even Simpson was anticipated, suddenly dressed up as a cowboy. The Spice Maidens weren’t so sure what to do, until suddenly, there was a small snigger. Everyone then turned to Zorabel. The snigger then turned into a full laugh as she bellowed out. She was laughing that hard, she looked like she was about to fall off her chair; her pet lizard protested as her knees buckled and her wriggled underneath it.
“Mother?” Tarragon asked with worry.
Both Captains looked confused as they looked toward their old friend. Then a bolt of lightning struck the both of them as they both instantly pointed towards her.
“IT WAS YOU!” Both of them shouted.
Zorabel sighed as she wiped a tear from her large eye, as she caught her breath.
“You dimwits! It took you that long to figure it out?”
The sisters withdrew their weapons, with Cinnamon crossing her arms.
“Mother? What did you do?” She asked.
Some of the other sisters were confused, till Zorabel asked Tom to make her some tea. She spoke as he stirred the milk and placed the tea set in her hands.
“I did what I had to my dear. You know what was the worst position on a ship was? Not the labour boys; but the women! The stupid superstitions, the harassment- “Suddenly she spat that part onto the floor, showing her disgust.
“These boys got everything to them on a silver platter; I got only scraps as it was deemed bad luck for a girl to be on a ship. Caused them too much trouble and distractions they said. Including that Twit Blackbeard.”
“But I thought you three were the best of friends?” Cinnamon looked confused, looking at all Captains.
“Hmm! And yet these two were getting up the ladder quickly then I was. I knew their plans; their dreams. And for me, that all it was to me. A dream. But as a little girl, I knew what I wanted. And I was going to get it one way or another.” She spoke, sipping on her tea.
“So, I was right, you overheard our plan?” Plunder spoke wearily.
“I thought it was Plunder’s idea; I mean who is stupid enough to risk such a daring quest? Plus, you boys love to boost your egos so it was only a matter of time before something was slipped. So, I waited; hoping to catch you both at the act and report it to Blackbeak. But then this buffoon decided he had cold feet.” She spoke looking at Plunder.
“So that night…” Tiberius started to think.
“That’s right. After I saw Plunder run down the deck, I slipped behind and locked the Captain’s cabin. I hid from Plunder; I knew that seadog would come to me for help. So, I made myself disappear till the crew and Blackbeak returned from the port. I knew Plunder would be too much of a coward to confess the truth, so he did the next best thing. Pretend he never knew about it.”
Zorabel paused to sip her tea, delighted.
Plunder and Tiberius were still in shock, with a slight stab of guilt from Plunder.
“And what of me?” Plunder asked.
“Hah! I didn’t have to lift a finger! You ruined yourself with your own stupidity; the curse was just an extra bonus.” Zorabel smiled.
“So, with those out of the way…” Coriander asked.
“It was easy picking to sit there as second in command to Captain Blackbeak. Mainly because I shooed off the competition throughout the years. So, like I said, I do what it takes to get what I want; that is the role of a true Pirate” Zorabel sighed as she took her final sip and passed the empty cup to Tom.
Everyone remained quiet. Zorabel tutted and waved her hand softly.
“Oh, don’t be too hurt boys. You would have done exactly the same, if you were in my shoes. And the tides were kind to you Tiberius; a Captain of you own ship and your own crew. Plunder…well, the tides kept washing you back up to the sands!”
Plunder was furious. He huffed and stormed outside the tent. Tiberius looked upon Zorabel and joined Plunder outside. Both of them looked at each other and suddenly bolted into laughter, leaving the girls and the crew completely confused. Zorabel simply smiled. However, Cinnamon approached her mother.
“One thing you forgot to mention. Tiberius, he found the sacred treasure in the Captain’s cabin. Captain Blackbeak’s most prized treasure. He managed to see it before he was banished.”
“Do you mean this?” Zorabel asked, as she clicked her fingers.
Tom moved and returned with a small wooden chest. It was old and battered. Scratches embodied the surface; the old patterns simply faded in time. At the lock was a small locket. There was a coin with a symbol or a black crow.
The sisters suddenly were surprised.
“Wait, is that it? Mother! How did you get it?” Nutmeg screamed in delight.
“When I took over after the passing of Captain Blackbeak, the new King or Queen was handled down the most prized treasure of the last King. It was for the new to remember the old and keep their memories alive. But this treasure, well you’ve already seen it for before. But it has been so long since you last saw it; hope it’s still in good nick.”
Confused, Tom placed the small chest on the lady’s lap, moving away the lizard away. Zorabel smiled and simply opened the chest. The sisters, the crew and Simpson, all closed in to see this rare relic…
Outside of the tent, the area was booming with activity. Small shops and markets were scattered; including an open pub or two. In one of them, Tiberius and Plunder drank their sorrows away as they huddled on their high chairs, resting their arms on the table; looking very sorry for themselves.
“Can’t believe the old crook got us both! But looks like you pretty much helped yourself.” He spoke in remark.
Plunder finished his drink, rosy cheeks on his face as he gave a quick hiccup.
“Just like mother to daughter; those girls are as twisted as seaweed. All spice and all things nice, they are certainly not made of those!” He burbled loudly.
“I drink to that.” Replied Tiberius as he cheered him with another drink.
As the mood got more relaxed, both Pirates had their fill as they slumped at the bar. Plunder sighed and spoke as they both gazed across the busy self-made markets. The children were playing Pirates, while others quietly spoke and tend to the injured.
“I’m sorry about your crew members; they are a major loss” Plunder spoke humbly.
Tiberius went silent; Plunder didn’t need to see that his eyes were filled with fury.
“Rudransh and Gordon; there will be hell to pay for those two. I bury them in the dessert up to their heads and let the vermin gorge out their eyes! But I thank you Plunder; for sacrificing the talisman for me. Never thought you had it in you.”
Plunder gave a smirk.
“I can surprise most folk when I to; even myself at times. But alas; I do miss it.”
“The Talisman?”
“Mainly just things going right for me for once.” He spoke, sipping on his drink.
“Well. Maybe your luck is starting to change.” He smiled.
Suddenly a pirate popped his head through the tent and walked in as he saw them both.
“Captains! You’ve both been summoned back to Queen Zorabel.”
As both of them left, their legs felt slightly heavier than before. Plunder coughed to get rid of the hiccups, whilst Tiberius brushed his white moustache to rid of the beer spills. But as they entered inside, there were confused.
Everyone had gathered around at the desk table, showing diagrams, maps and coordinates. Papers old and new were scattered in piles and books. But that wasn’t what distracted Tiberius. The Maidens were gathered around a small chest. Simpson saw them come in and look delighted.
“Captain! You need to see this! It’s Blackbeak’s last treasure!”
Simpson was shoved aside suddenly as both Captains charged straight to the girls. Their heads hovered over the Maidens to get a view. Tiberius response was quiet. Plunder was in dismay. Resting on Nutmegs legs as she kneeled down to play with it, was a rotten old teddy bear. Old brown fur was coming off the shape, a button eye was missing and its pirate clothes was old and tattered. However, Nutmeg was playing it, like she was a young girl once more. The Maidens had smiled on their faces; Plunder however was furious.
“What is this?” Plunder commanded, looking toward his old comrades.
Tiberius coughed and touched his glasses.
“This is Blackbeak’s most prized possession. You remember the old rumours, don’t you? That many thought he was an old sissy blouse? While as I was locked inside the Captain’s cabin that night, thought I might as well accept my fate and open the chest. Blackbeak said it was a toy his old ma gave to him as a boy. He always liked to dress up, go to the theatres and even join in plays. But being the Pirate King, that was shunned about. So, he kept it hidden. So, when he told me, I understood why I had to be banished. I was lucky to leave with my neck still intact. But I respected him; even to this day. He took us as kid and treated us well; and that’s why my lips were sealed of his secret.”
“Well, it was alright for you boys! You didn’t have to fight tooth and claw to get to the top!” Zorabel shouted, as Tom brought her through the tent.
“But all of this; the banishment, the vengeance. Was just because of one LOUSY BEAR!?!??!” Plunder erupted.
However, it was the Maidens that stood up in protest.
“He’s not a silly bear! That’s Mr Bubbles!” Nutmeg shouted.
“Mr Bubbles has been played by all of us throughout the years; given us to ma to look after him as young lasses.” Pepper explained.
“I tried my first make up skills with Mr Bubbles” Tarragon smiled, looking sheepish.
“But I never thought Mr Bubbles, was Blackbeak’s most prized treasure. I feel honoured.” Coriander concluded.
Plunder didn’t know what to say. His words were lost in his throat. The pirate Queen argued and waved her hands in frustration.
“Enough squabbling! Let’s this meeting started!” She shouted, clicking her fingers for Tom’s attention.
The tall butler simply moved her wheelchair to the front of the long table. Everyone moved in. Plunder was still in shock as he sat down. Nutmeg and Simpson were distracted as they played with Mr Bubbles. Zorabel addressed the table.
“Thank you, now we can proceed. It seems across Mobius and other dimensions across the Galaxy, these droids have been finding resources and recruiting folk from all around. Worse, is that they like to play dirty. I believe you have had an acquittance with them as well recently?”
“Aye. To recruit and trying to steal the Starpost.” Tiberius explained, folding his arms.
“And believe it not, seems they’ve been helping themselves to a few Starposts here and there. They also seem to know quite a lot; too much for my intake. Tom has managed to detect a security breach in our programming; our defence was completely cut off. Hence why we were under attack when they sneaked onto our ports. They have also taken some of our crew and some of the town folk.”
“For what?” Cinnamon asked.
“Most likely for slavery. They are planning something big and we need to find out what it is and stop it!”
“But my Queen, we don’t even know who’s behind these droids. Could it be Robotnik to his old shenanigans again?”
“He’s not been spotted for quite some time; Tom has given me that much I’m afraid.” Zorabel spoke, shaking her head.
“So, what can we do Ma?” Pepper wondered.
“Trace the missing and find where they are keeping our crew. Rescue and destroy the droids and their plans. Any questions?”
The room was silent.
“Good. Now, we need help. An insider to be more precise. You can come on through now!” The Queen commanded.
Suddenly everyone turned around to see a female bat simply there. She was that quiet that no one spotted her behind them, eating on an apple. She wore full black gear as she made herself to the table.
“This is Rouge. She has been leading the investigation to the missing and the whereabouts of this “boss” of theirs. We have been working together for some time.” Zorabel explained.
“And sadly, our collaboration may have been the spark for the “boss” to be suspicious of Scourage Bay. We managed to get most of the folk to safety, before the place was burnt down. So far, a few of us have gathered some of the fallen droids. I will need time for my programming to collect any needed information”. Rouge spoke in confidence.
“Mother, are we sure we can trust her? She is an outsider; she could betray us.” Cinnamon spoke up, standing in response.
Rouge simply smiled in defeat as she approached the Maiden.
“That’s up to you sweetheart. I have intel surveying every step this guy makes. I have an insider also with the freedom fighters; certain they will keep their long ears open.” The bat winked.
The Pirates knew of the goody heroes of Mobius; did this make them feel any better? Who knew. Zorabel continued her speech.
“We will continue to work alongside with Rouge to their hidden base. For the meantime, I might as well make you two useful. You and your crew will work with Rouge to find the missing folk.”
“And why should I work with any of you? I’m banished; I have no business here.” Tiberius smirked as he got off his chair and started to walk away from the tent.
His crew and second in command simply exited the tent, till Zorabel slam her fist on her wooden wheelchair.
“Because sooner than later, it will be YOUR business. Do you think they won’t try again? Tom has already informed me the state of your ship; you need all the help you can get. And what better way to take Plunder and his crew with you.”
“WHAT?!” Both Pirates shouted in distress.
“You expect Plunder and me to work together? Are you sure your fake eye isn’t screwed on too tight?” Tiberius mocked.
Suddenly that insult aroused the sisters; that even Tom moved away from the table, shadowing the small figure of Tiberius. For such a plain face, his face looked like they were ready to murder. Zorabel simply shook her hand.
“Now don’t be so hasty boys and girls. My crew will assist in the repairs and will provide the supplies you need. As for Plunder…. well, I just don’t want his bad luck stinking up the place.”
“As you may be behind on some of the news, the curse has been lifted off me! I’m as free to go as I please.” Plunder replied with a smirk as he waved his hat down in curtesy, to bid farewell.
“Ah but one thing you forgot; you’re still under my orders. And as your Queen, you WILL assist Tiberius. So do make sure you play nicely boys.” Zorabel smiled.
“Rouge here will provide with coordinates of any sightings. She has been working with others, strictly off radar. So, let’s keep this quest incognito; do I make myself clear?”
“Yes ma’am.” Both Captains responded plainly.
“Good. And I’m sure Rouge you will find these two useful. Make sure they don’t dawdle.”
“I’m sure I can keep up on their feet.” The bat smiled.
“Then the meeting is over. Get yourself some sleep, for you shall set off as soon as repairs are completed. Tom; time for my foot message.” She said with a quirky smile.
Tom wheeled the chair around and took her to quarters; looking slightly distasteful as Zorabel held her large smile, clutching onto her pet lizard. Everyone else was left to their own demise. The Captains wouldn’t stop bickering to one another as they complained about the other. The crew merged and prepared supper. The sisters however were in their own tents; finally relaxing. Tarragon was fast asleep as soon as her head rested on the fine pillow. The beds were simple blankets on the floor, but seeing them of them were that tired, they rested well. All except for Cinnamon.
Sighing, she gave up and ventured out of the tent. She had important questions for her mother. Ignoring the banting and squabbling of the pirates, she marched forwards to her mother’s tent. As she entered, Tom looked at her and stood in front of her quarters.
“No visitors at the moment my Lady; she is resting.”
“Tom, who is it?” Zorabel shouted through the tent covers.
“Your daughter Cinnamon my Queen.”
“Don’t be a fool! Let her in; only unwanted guests are not to disturb me.” The Queen replied.
Tom smiled and opened the tent flap for her as she stepped through. Cinnamon found her mother resting on a soft chair longue, covered in blankets. She was simply resting on the longue, with cucumber on her eyes and a pinkish face mask.
“Mother, what are you doing? This isn’t the time to have a spa session.”
“There is always time for R&R; you just need to find the right cucumbers. Speaking of relaxation, how was your little trip?” She asked, peeping her good eye as she lifted up the cucumber.
“How did you know about that?”
“Tom is handy in many things; including keeping tabs on my daughters. Seems you’ve been having quite an adventure yourself.”
Cinnamon sighed and sat down on a nearby chair. She told her everything; the spa, the treasure, the tomb and about Plunder. Zorabel laid down at listened, until she had finished.
“Tell me mother; why do you hate Plunder so much?”
Zorabel lifted her head up and took off the cucumber over her big eye, throwing it towards her pet lizard for a healthy treat.
“Because he’s an eyesore to all Pirates. Even without bad luck, he’s a flop! His crew he can’t even keep and a Pirate without a ship is a disgrace. I’m surprised that he lasted that long before Captain Blackbeak cut ties with him too. Why do you ask?”
“I think mother, you’re wrong about him.” Cinnamon stated.
“Oh? Do tell.” She asked, as she bit off the other cucumber.
“He may be a bit ruggish and a bit of a fool, but his heart is strong. The cat Simpson; he maybe an odd ball to say the least, but he’s committed to help. And has proven to be a good fighter in the battlefield; in his own special way. The ghost; I know he blasts Filch from left to centre, but he does in his own way respect him. And…. When I thought he was just thinking of himself, he went ahead and save Tarragon and me. So, will you take it easy on him from now on?”
“Hmmm, well if it makes you happy love, I won’t push my nose in. But that’s not also why you are here. You’re here about the succession of the throne.”
Cinnamon looked directly at her mother, but Zorabel closed her eyes and shook her head.
“I’m afraid my dear, you are your sisters are clearly not ready.”
The Maiden was denial as she stood up from her seat.
“What do you mean? We had gold, we’ve been on quests.”
“Ah but you’ve had help. You’ve been on the quests because I told you to go. You had the gold because Plunder was a twit and even that, you wasted on spa retreats. Do you think I know what my daughters are doing? You maybe my girls, but you CERTAINTLY not pirate material.”
“What can we do to change your mind Ma?” Cinnamon asked, sitting back down.
Zorabel stopped and thought as she continued to eat the cucumber.
“Hmmm…you need to go on a quest. Something of your own agenda. Got anything in mind?”
Cinnamon was quiet and harshly spoke.
“Rudransh and Gordon.”
“Ah the ones that escaped.” Zorabel stated.
“They’ll worth both a high bounty back in their world. It will make us richer ten times fold compared to the found treasure.”
“But there’s something else isn’t there?”
Cinnamon looked dead straight into her mother’s eyes.
“He made a fool of us; even using Tarragon as a hostage. I can NEVER forgive them!”
“Well, my dear, seems like you got your quest. Looks like you’ll gonna be a busy lass and you’ll need all sisters for this one. No ship, no cash and only your sisters; got yourself quite a challenge”.
Zorabel laid her head back, took more cucumber pieces from the small table and went back to her relaxation; letting her pet lizard rest on her small stomach. Cinnamon knew the time for talk was over as she stood up and walked away. Then Zorabel spoke.
“You want to be Pirate Queen? Doesn’t come on a platter my dear. You have a lot of work to do. Good luck.”
But before Cinnamon could ask anymore, she could instantly hear the snoring of her mother; how can anyone fall asleep that fast? Sighing, she kissed her mother’s forehead and left her to sleep. But as she stepped out of the tent, all her sisters were waiting for her. Pepper looked angry.
“Anything else you want to share with the rest of the family?” Pepper asked sarcastically.
Cinnamon sighed.
“Guess Coriander got you up to date?” She asked, looking toward her sister.
“Pretty much. But you forget; we are ALL in this! If you’re going after those two, I’m coming with you.” Pepper confidently stated.
“Don’t forget me too!” Nutmeg smiled.
Coriander simply nodded towards her. But then Cinnamon turned to the weakest sister.
“And what about you Tarragon? Can you live without the perks? The soft bed? The luxurious treatments? You’re happy to get your fingernails dirty?”
At first, Tarragon looked shy and timid. But then her aura changed as she clenched her fists and snarled to twist her once beautiful face.
“To get revenge on that filthy creature who so much as touched me; I will DESTROY him!!”
All girls stepped back from Tarragon’s rage; you could almost see the fires in her eyes. Pepper cheered.
“At a girl! That’s the flame we need! Right Spice Maidens, we got our quest. And this one; we’re not coming back till we come back as Queens!”
All girls united….as for the Captains?
Both of them continued arguing pretty much into the night…
A few days later, Tiberius ship was fixed and ready to fly. Scourge bay was cleaned up, hoping to find any supplies not damaged in the fire. The port was ready for ships to enter its bays once more.
The crews mounted all the gear and supplies into the cargo bay. As one ship was preparing to cast away, so was another, as they went their separate ways.
The sisters ordered hired pirates to set sails, from a small tattered ship they managed to salvage. Tarragon wouldn’t stop complaining about the splinters and the damage of her fingernails. The crew’s reward was a percentage of the bounty for Rudransh and Gordon. Some of the pirates weren’t too pleased with the small reward, but anyone knew not to mess with the Spice Maidens. Something was better than nothing.
As their said their final farewells to their mother, Cinnamon managed to speak to Plunder alone.
“Hey. I hope you can find the Artifact. That thing does have some power and if goes to the wrong hands, then we all will be out of luck.”
Plunder shook her hand with his good hand.
“I shall. And good sails to you as well; make sure you give one final punch to that ugly face of Gordon. He deserves that much.”
Captain Plunder watched as the sisters set voyage, seeing the sisters bark orders to the pirates, while Tarragon and Nutmeg were waving to their mother. Even Simpson waved back to them.
“Will they alright Captain?” The cat asked, looking worried.
“The Spice Maidens? Believe me, Rudransh and Gordon better be afraid.”
Turning around, Plunder saw his own men readying Tiberius ship. In his life, he never knew that this would ever happen. The both of them together, riding onto a full-on quest. Rouge was standing confidently at the main deck, watching everyone move in and out of the ship. Tiberius was sat at the Captain’s chair, as Plunder stood behind him. Simpson looked upon the windows, squishing his face to get a better view.
The second in command spoke out as she looked away from her monitor.
“Captain. The ship is ready with the coordinates. We are ready to take off.”
“Aye good lass. We shall set sail- “Plunder spoke up.
Suddenly, Tiberius shouted out, turning his chair to face Plunder.
“Plunder! Let me remind you that this is MY ship, so I AM the Captain!”
“Sorry; force of habit I guess.” Plunder responded.
But as Tiberius turned back around, Plunder couldn’t help but snigger. Maybe this trip wasn’t to be too bad after all. Tiberius set the commands and the whole ship erupted with life. All power on and boosters activated. They all felt the ship being lifted high into the sky, watching Zorabel and the others disappear. Scourge bay was still a fallen town of ash and smoke.
